Seen any good sculptures made from almonds lately? Note: no other nut-based sculptures may be discussed under threat of the ban-hammer!

There was talk of mistletoe at work today and how we do not see any in the workplace anymore. What with todays harassment laws, the potential for poisoning yourself and work colleges, the stigma about being seen as a dirty old man chasing women around the factory, labs and offices trying to get off with them, Is it really worth all of the snogging? Personally I think the poisonous part is exaggerated and from a very small amount of reading it seems not all species are and those that are are…

Function asked about fonts in his status update which inspired this question. What fonts do you think are the right ones in this field and which ones do universities and journals specify, in your experience?

Is it wise to think of logic, singly, as intelligent, rather than logic and creativity? - A (current) scientific explanation for 'how a baby's gender is determined'. I asked a question, and produced an argument: are babies genders determined, randomly, or naturally? Do you consider the natural circumstances of childbirth to be, metaphorically, like a bubble (i.e. contained in theoretical space)? I argue that natural circumstances are, in this context, universal, and therefore can't be reduced to a single moment (How big is the bubble?) When a male reproduces with a female, a baby (or babies) is born of either male or female gender. Though this pro…

If I have central heating on and I'm heating three rooms, two big ones and a small one, how much money would it save if I turned off one of the big rooms. Obviously I'm not expecting an exact number, but I'm just curious whether it would be significant.

Family Individuals should be isolated from matters which concern family. Family is of the utmost importance, and family is expressed vividly in most Christian texts. Human nature took an awkward turn! Individuality is, at present, thought of as more important than family, individuals are given a voice on matters which concern families. Free speech is not really free, because if I want to speak for my family, I must speak from an individual perspective; therefore I would be speaking for myself. Crisis of Individual-Based Free Speech I was just playing Pokemon Moon; an African / Asian sexual fantasy, with White, and their vibrant personality, in the middle. Secretly, thr…

The world is going through a change, but many cannot change, they only break. This forum is getting so liberal left, it is like a sickness, You ban, suspend, lock or belittle anything or anyone that does not follow your doctrine. MSM have had a kick up the arse lately, with the rise of alternative news media outlets, including Youtube, which can be a great source of information, If your head ain't stuck up your self righteous overbearing arses. "Scientists" no longer have the monopoly in science, the people have awoke, they are no longer following blindly what they are told, they are asking questions, the revolution has begun. Truth or Fraud http://www.…

NOTE: This is NOT my actual salary, just an example. So, say you're paid bi-weekly. $1,000/week = $2,000 per paid period. = $4,0000/month. You would think you just multiply $4,000 * 12 = $48,0000/ year...right? But if you're paid $1,000/week...wouldn't you calculate it as $1,000 * 52 weeks = $52,000/ year? ~EE

As cameras become better and better and the pictures are more and more accurate wouldn't you expect pareidolia to become less and less of a problem with pictures of Mars and the Moon and or other objects in the solar system? Lately some of the new cameras are taking some pictures that are really difficult to explain away. Shouldn't the clearer pictures have made the patterns go away instead of becoming more puzzling? There are lots of them, here is an example:

The quote is from this article: http://www.ireneogrizek.com/curious-case-of-steven-galloway/ ... in case anyone is wondering. Could anyone explain the underlined part? What is the origin of that phrase and what does it mean?

Christmas was supposed to be a time of Joy . Peace on Earth and Joy to men of ' Goodwill ' or something to that effect . Quote " And the angel said unto them, Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all the people: " A messenger said this :- as what was to be expected from the ensuing Birth. Let's hope that's what happens soon ! However, I think the benefits were promised for the Second visit , comming , not the First visit . ) Mike

Hi, I am interested in knowing something that has had my mind on the verge of blowing recently. I understand that some of you on this forum study something in science or engineering, but I would like to know if there are any individuals interested in math and science that have trouble reading it. That is, if you were given the ability to read math and science, you would do it out of interest, but you're not because you find it too complicated/lose concentration when reading it. Thanks for your input!

I have just bought a house in NH and I have a problem. There is house on either side of my drive way which is about 75 feet long. I don't really have 500 dollars to spend on a snow blower that still only blows snow maybe 15 to 30 ft. A snow plow cannot get enough clearance to push the snow out because my garage is at one end of the driveway and even the driveway is quite narrow. I know that a shovel is my only option but I figured I would put it up on here for some young genius to invent and idea. I know they make backup plows which are too expensive for me to buy also. Let me know what you guys come up with!

Hey hey, So as a person working in science myself I know all the struggle that surrounds science funding and getting hold of grants. So if there was a way of obtaining money for a research project via crowdfunding how many of you would go for it it? Also, we all know how governmental funding bodies often prefer "safe" projects that will most likely be able to generate a paper in the end over risky but, potentially, innovative ones. So again if there was a platform that would allow you to gather the funds for the projects that you always wanted to set up but always kind of knew that it's pointless because you will never get the funds for it, would you use this opportun…

I've ordered 200g of a herbal powder out of China, via FedEx. The shipment is currently in the customs in Cologne for 5 weeks. I've contacted FedEx and the customs several times but they can't help. What can cause this? What's the longest you ever had to wait?

Hi everyone, Today I got a trial for work as a kitchen hand job -this is for part-time work. I have a casual job as a kitchen hand already. However in this new workplace while after washing the dishes they do not give time to air dry the dishes and instead they use a wet tea towel to dry them instead. I've been told in my current casual job that you shouldn't dry dishes with the tea towel but allow them to air dry instead. What should I do? What do you think is the most logical thing to do and do you think drying dishes with a wet tea towel is a big hazard problem? Should I discuss this with the manager if I were successful for the job? In my food safety c…

I'm thinking in purchasing a telescope, for the first time in my life, since my child seems to be as interested in the sky bodies as I am (unfortunately my wife doesn't share it, LOL) but there are many and with varying costs. what would you recommend me to purchase? and, what are the maximum magnification available in the telescopes one can purchase? I hope I'm not disturbing anyone with this question

The post in the politics section called, "Trump protestors", was started on Nov. 10. On Nov. 17 (today..oddly enough 1 week later), there has been over 295 posts on that topic alone (roughly 42 posts/day). I bet the physics, chemistry, biology, computer science or math sections don't even get a fraction of that in a month's time. Now you see why I've suggested deleting the politics section on this forum in the past? It benefits no one, and in case you haven't noticed, minds are seldom changed. Yes, I know I started the post, but it's my 2nd post in that section, and I've been here almost 4 years now. Politics section description: "What's going on in the wo…

I always thought online personality tests are stupid, though funny things, that people who are insecure look to. I figured I would have a good laugh by taking a personality test, and was pleasantly surprised at how accurate it is: https://www.16personalities.com/free-personality-test What did you guys get and how accurate was it? I found it creepy to be honest, I got this: https://www.16personalities.com/intp-personality Interested to see what you guys get. Good luck.
