I'm thinking in purchasing a telescope, for the first time in my life, since my child seems to be as interested in the sky bodies as I am (unfortunately my wife doesn't share it, LOL) but there are many and with varying costs. what would you recommend me to purchase? and, what are the maximum magnification available in the telescopes one can purchase? I hope I'm not disturbing anyone with this question

  2. The post in the politics section called, "Trump protestors", was started on Nov. 10. On Nov. 17 (today..oddly enough 1 week later), there has been over 295 posts on that topic alone (roughly 42 posts/day). I bet the physics, chemistry, biology, computer science or math sections don't even get a fraction of that in a month's time. Now you see why I've suggested deleting the politics section on this forum in the past? It benefits no one, and in case you haven't noticed, minds are seldom changed. Yes, I know I started the post, but it's my 2nd post in that section, and I've been here almost 4 years now. Politics section description: "What's going on in the wo…

I always thought online personality tests are stupid, though funny things, that people who are insecure look to. I figured I would have a good laugh by taking a personality test, and was pleasantly surprised at how accurate it is: https://www.16personalities.com/free-personality-test What did you guys get and how accurate was it? I found it creepy to be honest, I got this: https://www.16personalities.com/intp-personality Interested to see what you guys get. Good luck.

Hello everyone I just saw these videos, and wanted to share it with you guys ... Caution: it is incredibly strangening, and to me, it feels like one of the weirdest febrile dreams ever (the crazy sh*t you get delivered at night when having a fever). https://www.facebook.com/brianbbrianbrian/videos/1758908054371540/ https://www.facebook.com/cool3dworld/videos/1800400513511177/ Not sure if I can share links here ... Sorry if I can't. Please, discuss the emotions provoked by this ... Thing. I wonder what has to go through someone's mind in order to be able to make such a demonic thing. Even watching it feels like tripping without drugs (not that I have a…

If you found an earth like planet around a star twice as massive as our sun, which would mean it's life span would be very short on the order of one billion years. If the star was going to make the Earth like planet uninhabitable in say one million years would it be ethical to colonize that planet?

The universal problem. A metaphor. The place is known by the observer; a place of random angles, of angles opposed, not diametrically, but symmetrically – a mark of a dragon. Dragonfly, a surge is science, a concept I have understood. I refer to a mark of a dragon; an angle diametrically opposed, must surge, for symmetry. In a first instance, the symmetry is mini, and in the second, great, and great ever-after. Infinite squares, a time machine. Red is divisible, therefore it is attractive; blue is infinitesimal, that is, it can't be subtracted to one; green is a stray of central yellow. A purple master and a pink. I refer to infinite squares; a sh…

  8. So I've been doing research for a diagnostics company for a few months now. I've slowly been learning the in's and out's of the lab, the work flow, data analysis, running assays more cleanly, etc. The other day the Director of Research (my supervisor) pulled me aside and said I was doing well on lab performance, but I am lacking in knowledge about the flow of the project, and I need to ask more questions, read more about the machinery, protein research, and slowly prepare myself to becoming more independent in the lab etc. My supervisor is very rational, and I see the angle of what he's saying...he's not one of those bosses where someone says "he just told me to work hard…

This is the kind of stuff I would like to post, would I be welcomed here? I'm interested in the sciences, and follow the method as well as the rules, but I'm not educated to perform science of my own - that is, I want to learn as much as I can, and contribute as a member of a community. I will not engage in pseudoscience, and I'll never, with intent, cause a member of higher expertise stand falsely accused my inadequacy. Thanks for the opportunity! 1 Would this work? I'm halfway through drafting my story and I haven't done the math, to see if it all adds up. The concept of time in this story, is different. The time generated in my story has taken account …

I'm sure your first reaction will be that I'm bull . . . .ing you. But I'm not! I added Google Analytics to my Weebly hosted Electroplatetectonics.com site about a month ago. This morning I found a "vote for Trump" on one of the pages. Is this from someone in Google or is it some kind of a hack? I know very little about how this computer stuff works, if it wasn't for one of my sons technical help I would be lost when things on my laptop get screwed up. Where do you think this comes from? It's weird that it shows up on the language page but doesn't say which one. There has been one session from Samara, Russia. Could it be some scam from there?…

  13. I have been looking at folio 49v for some time now. But, tonight I just stared at it till I came up with a solution and my cipher is the solution to the VMS with a 100% result. As most of you know there is a number column to the left of the glyph column which reads 1-5 and then the glyph column which descends next to the paragraphs. Using proper math associated with my cipher for these glyph’s in the tabbed margins they add up together to be 156 which is the same for the vord count on this page. The total in the first column is 73 and the next column for the other two paragraphs is 83. So to my pleasure there was a system to the madness on this page. Here is a link …

As we observed and concluded a point And a decision ; there exists a very good detail to make our preferences more clearly and also carefully than rather than goals. For instance,I obviously observed/gathered these details (***** * ***** See the intellectuality among details ***** * *****) 1) everyone would do the science whoever is honest but unfortunately is ordinary 2) everyone is not aware a point but it is very very important : "youth" 3)generally ,while it is commonly possible to write many papers ,it is highly difficult to create an extraordinary contribution. look please and see the reality : nothing might be more prominent than your health ,thus your fun…

In society today suicide is generally seen as abnormal human behavior, and is considered the result of a "mental illness". But it seems that a large percentage of human beings experience depression and suicidal ideation at some point in their lives, and many have persistent trouble with these thoughts. In many instances it is taboo, and people who have these thoughts keep them to themselves. In ages past, suicide was not entirely frowned upon, especially as a result of some dishonor in war (the Japanese Samurai considered suicide as a respectable form of self sacrifice if they were dishonored). Some countries such as Switzerland allow people with terminal illnesse…

Voynich Manuscript a Cipher for the Ages The enigma which surrounds the Voynich Manuscript for all who try to unlock its vault of coded text is intriguing to say the least. A man named Wilfrid Voynich found the Manuscript in 1912 at Villa Mondragone, Frascati, Italy. The book contains 200 pages of an unknown script with pictures of herbs, nymphs, plants and astrology. I have studied this code for seven years now and I believe I have made a breakthrough for the Mt. Everest of Ciphers. What I propose is a numerology cipher in Welsh for the main labels and astrology wheel (i.e. folio 68r) in the Voynich Manuscript. Here are some images, a video and link to my …

I'm reading the book Underboss by Sammy Gravano. If you don't know who he is he was John Gotti's underboss and the guy who gave Gotti up. There's a passage in the book that happens when both of them are in jail awaiting trial: This got me a bit puzzled. Is it that showing affection and mush like that is seen as weak? And if so, why? I guess I'm curious as to what the answer to this question is from two perspectives, 1) a kind of intuitive/folksy wisdom answer and 2) an evo psyh answer. Why is mush or affection not good? Anyone got any ideas on either (or some third type of explanation)?

  20. I have a body of work currently located on a website which is a cipher for the Voynich Manuscript. The cipher has uncovered many proper names in the voynich manuscript. I believe it merits a Nobel prize in cryptography. Yet my problem is I'm not involved with academia as I am a amateur. So how do amateurs submit work for a Nobel prize?

The following is a facebook dialogue I had earlier today with a typical Southern gentleman from my area of the Bible Belt. I'm posting this to show the people here the scope and scale of the issues we face with critical thinking and reasoned discourse down here in the American South. Whether or not you agree with what I had to say, you'll still see just what I'm referring to about the typical thought process that goes on in the South. In this post I was responding with a comment on this gentleman's status. I know you'll think by reading this that I should have aborted the conversation much earlier, but I often try to hang in there with them and be patient just to see if I…

  24. I've seen people respond with a rule-of-thumb to a big claim that would turn well established theories on their head. Can't remember it though. Something like: incredible/exceptional/unusual claims need incredible/exceptional/unusual proof.

Figured I'd ask the smart people here this question. I eat meat, but I'm still concerned with the ethical questions of meat eating. I don't see me ever giving up meat, so I'm thinking about trying to go about obtaining meat the most ethical way I can, which would undoubtedly be via hunting. I grew up hunting, and have always been told that venison is much healthier than any beef you'll find. I'm sure this is the case, but is venison a healthy food in general? We can also discuss the ethics of hunting/meat eating if you guys would like to, though this is not the ethics forum.
