I know it's kind of a stupid question, but I really can't see why all of the gas produced by the digestive system does not work it's way upward. (This is a result of currently suffering from severe stomach pains.)

Does anyone know of any newspaper or magazine that makes this sort of (or something similar) video: A weekly video in which 2 or more of the journos from the paper sit down and talk about the topics that got covered in the paper that week and maybe give links to the articles that were published?

German are the most numerous ethnic group in the US, yet it seems like whenever you encounter an American with a German last name they are Jewish. I wonder why that is. Does anyone know? I know some people of German ancestry have anglicized their last names, but then again, why haven't the Jewish people? Is it that Jewish immigration has been more recent while Germans moved earlier and maybe that practice of anglicization went out of style by the time the Jewish people came over?

Hello guys, I was hoping to start a topic where we could friendly insult each other in a scientific way just for laughs. Stuff like: "You got into the gene pool while the lifeguard wasn't watching." or "Your wheel is turning, but the hamster is dead." "You are so dense that light bends around you." etc

I know this is a mismatch, boring topic on this forum but there are a lot of knowledgeable people with experience in a wide variety of subjects so I wanted to get your opinion. Transfer pricing relates to the price applied to intercompany transactions. These transactions can include the sales of products, the provision of a service, the lending of money and the use of (intangible) assets. A simplified example of this is that you can be a multinational company with headquarters in Germany for example, open a branch or even a "mailbox" company in a tax heaven country (Bahamas, Bermuda) with 0 corporate tax and keep 100% of the profits. I oppose taxes in general …

If you have a look at all the great physicists and mathematicians of the past and present. You will start to notice that these individuals are portrayed as if they have a natural gift in math or physics or whatever they do. instead of hearing how much work they put in you only hear about the amount of work they didn't put in. (i.e Stephen Hawking averaging only about an hour a night of study for his physics Ph.D.) I would like to hear your opinions on, whether you think arithmetical abilities are based on natural abilities or through many sleepless nights and empty coffee mugs.

There appear to have been Notable events throughout History . Are we going through one NOW ? One could rhyme off a number of Notable events, like :- The Big Bang , the recombination , the formation of Earth, the collision with earth by Theia , Life on Earth, the 65 million year ago asteroid strike , Mankind, some monumental occurrences In our history ( like World war 1 & 2 . ) We appear to be in ' something ' at this very moment ? Self Destruction. Mass Migration . What is it ? What is going on ? .

Hello. What do you think about such payment method? Everyone everyday writes how many hours he has spent working, these numbers are summed once a month, the sum is multiplied by some factor and this is your salary. Particularly, if this is used in R&D and research, i.e. not 'around science' jobs, but in places where there is real need to conduct experiments to move forward. I was unable to find out how common such thing on the West. Here it is Russia, and here it is pretty uncommon. My attempt to find the answer made me imagine that only undergraduates may work like this in the West. In Russia as I've said already this is fairly uncommon, even undergraduates are usu…

Some background information. I live in a country where the school system is very different to most of the world. High school starts at 12 and ends when you are 18 years old. You start in first year of high school and end in 6th year. I'm in the 4th year of high school right now (should be in fifth but i had to do my year twice). I plan on taking chemistry next year. This means i will have everything (maths, geography, languages, sciences,...) but it will focus on chemistry (4H organic, 4H experimental, 6h analytical) I can't choose how much of what i have but this should prepare you for university level chemistry. I want to make my high school easier since its pretty …

Here is a picture of 3 fairly expensive carrying bags . Put them down for a moment , THEY FALL OVER . And to improve things nicely , they are often BLACK inside , so you can't find anything , that is now jumbled up ! Remedy , they should ALL. Be redesigned , orientated through 90 degrees , and have an illuminated inside. Mike

What is your motivation to travel if you take frequent holidays and how much time do you take off from work? If your holiday is short, there is stress and pressure that you won't be able to see and experience everything in the country/region of the world you want to explore. How much time do you devote to the planning process of the holiday? There are many people who lack interest in travelling overseas for frequent holidays. Do you SFN members think that there is something wrong with these people? What is your opinion of people who don't travel or go on holidays or lack interest in the outside world apart from their own country?

Would life be boring? Would you be happy if the human lifespan could be extended to 200 years instead of 100? If you could live until 200 years, what would you do differently and how would you have planned your life if you are still a teenager now?

In many cultures around the world (e.g. Japanese) it is considered rude to stare at people for prolonged periods of time (e.g. longer than a second). In the western world however, many people place higher emphasis on eye contact and through showing their attention to the other person one is speaking to, while over east people are more evasive with their eye contact. My question, is when did this western culture of staring develop? Do we have any ideas and does culture change much in the course of a decade, century, millennia etc.? Will our cultural habits change to a noticeable degree in a few centuries (e.g. adoption of the japanese style of bowing to greet one anoth…
