Speculations Forum Rules

The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:

  1. Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
  2. Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
  3. Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.

The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

  1. I understand there's been a lot of research recently on the consequences of fathering children at an older age. From what I've seen most research has shown that the older a guy gets the more mutations happen in the DNA his sperm carries, which has been associated with a greater risk of mental health in offspring. I've seen some people suggest that it's correlation rather than causation with the reasoning, IIRC, that maybe the kind of guys who have children later in life are the kind of guys who have DNA that carries a greater risk of mental problems and that it's THAT that the studies are detecting, not a result of mutations. But this seems to be the minority view, f…

Oh no! Not another simulation thread! There, it's been said. No reason to repeat it Most of you here possess advanced scientific knowledge, so I won't even bother to elaborate the following 10 points in this OP. You should know what I mean. But I would like to discuss and elaborate any of them in this thread, if you want me to. 10 Reasons Why We Are More Likely To Live In A Computer Simulation Than In A Genuine Physical Universe. 1) Quantum Fluctuation 2) The Holographic Nature Of Matter 3) Duality 4) Non-locality 5) Bostrom's Argument 6) C 7) Sommerfeld's Constant 8) Universal Mathematical Structures 9) Computer Codes In Strin…

  3. Hello everyone,If my quantum number is 0 or 1 at the moment of measurement.Would an AI be able to know if it's 1 or 0 before the measurement? If yes the instantaneous transmission would be possible.A human brain can predict the 0 or the 1 before the measurement if it is too lucky.I do not see why a network of neurons would not be able to imitate a human brain that is too lucky. In any case, know that luck comes from the brain of a network of neurons.

Hello, my name is Doug Fisher, author of the recently released Advertising removed by moderator The first half of Maps, Myths & Paradigms analyzes ancient maps and along the way delves into Plato's detailed geographical description of Atlantis. While I had discovered a location that matched the scale and layout of Plato’s Atlantis, the observation by no means validated the site as the true location nor confirmed that the fabled civilization actually ever existed. Still, Plato’s description of two continents beyond the Mediterranean—Atlantis and a second large continent opposite a path of islands—is a remarkably accurate description of the Americas and the …

Okay, basically over the past, oh well to state the truth over the last few years. In my sleep when I'm actually dreaming I know I see these little short things/images of like something that involves me. After I wake up I can barly remember the details of the dream/vision. Okay a few weeks or months later the event that I saw in my sleep/dreams occurs and like that I remember I saw it in my dreams a while back. What do you call this? What does this mean? Does this relate to the sub mind? This good or bad for my health? This occurs for me like every month, recently its up as in so far I think about over 4+ visions came true.... *I wish …

Hi guys, Many of the theories about the fundamentals of space I know of always seemed kind of incomplete or to focussed on specific parts of it. Some simply don't "feel" right to me. So over last couple of years I have been thinking a lot about my own kind of "theory of everything". I call it the liquid quantum space (as you probably already have guessed :-D). Before you dig into it or respond to my post - no I'm not a physisist, and no, the theory is not yet complete. Many things here might seem weird/wrong or misplaced. But that is exactly why I post this here - to get feedback about what you like, what is unclear or even to propose experiments that could…

If a person could be shrunk a-la Ant Man, how small could they get before their lungs and/or blood would be incompatible with the air? I would have to assume that their red blood cells shrank at a similar ratio and could get small enough to not hold oxygen properly?

  9. 1)Mathematics/science end in contradiction-an integer=a non-integer. When mathematics/science end in contradiction it is proven in logic that you can prove anything you want in mathematics ie you can prove Fermat's last theorem and you can disprove Fermat's last theorem http://gamahucherpress.yellowgum.com/wp-content/uploads/All-things-are-possible.pdf The paper proves 1 is a finite number it stops A finite decimal is one that stops, like 0.157 A non-finite decimal like 0.999... does not stop when a finite number 1 = a non-finite number 0.999.. then maths ends in contradiction another way 1 is an integer a whole number 0.888... is a non-integ…

So apparently Hawking radiation happens when pairs of virtual particles are created on an event horizon and one of the pair falls into the event horizon while the other flies away, somehow taking mass with it. If there were a way to create more such virtual particles at the event horizon, would the black hole then evaporate faster? Are there any other vaguely realistic ways of destroying black holes?

  11. Gödel’s 1st theorem is meaningless as Godel cant tell us what makes a maths statement true SPMA LINK DELETED Gödel’s 1st theorem states a) “Any effectively generated theory capable of expressing elementary arithmetic cannot be both consistent and complete. In particular, for any consistent, effectively generated formal theory that proves certain basic arithmetic truths, there is an arithmetical statement that is true,[1] but not provable in the theory (Kleene 1967, p. 250) note "... there is an arithmetical statement that is true..." Godel's 2nd theorem ends in paradox Godel's 2nd theorem is about SPAM LINK DELETED "If an axiomatic system can be proven to be consistent and complete from within itself, then it is inconsistent.” But we have a paradox Gödel is using a mathematical system his theorem says a system cant be proven consistent THUS A PARADOX Godel must prove that a system cannot be proven to be consistent based upon the premise that the logic he uses must be consistent . If the logic he uses is not consistent then he cannot make a proof that is consistent. So he must assume that his logic is consistent so he can make a proof of the impossibility of proving a system t…

Time is not absolute and we all know that, but the real question is how it changes and why. imagine two identical balls with different masses but of the same shape and size. one is having a mass of 5kg and the other with 20kg, they are rolled on the ground to reach a distance of 5 meters using the same force, note that they all may reach the distance but not at the same time which changes their velocities becaus…

So, first off, full disclosure. I'm a Flat Earther. I am well-aware of all the preconceptions that comes with, I can only promise that I am not the stereotype and hope my actions live up to that. (Honestly I'm compelled to mention that most of the time the stereotypical closed-mindedness is simply a reaction to being met with bad arguments; to take one cliche there are some that believe the Earth is a disc accelerating upwards at 9.8m/s2 as an explanation for gravity, not a belief I hold, and the most common response to that is that we should have reached the speed of light by now, even though relativistic velocity addition does not work that way. It is too common for dis…

  16. I had a read of most of the comments & am disappointed, i havent learnt much. The main topic seems to be whether GWs need a medium to propagate -- the answer is in the question -- it cant propagate without a medium. And swansont's comment that em radiation doesnt need a medium is a worry -- it reminds me that standard science continually confuses photons with em radiation -- hencely bringing in em radiation can only confuse rather than clarify. The main side issue seems to be whether GW's & gravity add to the gravity field. I thort that Einstein said yes. In which case the addition must introduce a kind of almost never ending process of addition that sooner o…

  17. In short, the reason expansion was fast early on is due to the high amount of matter to energy wave conversion. Space is energy waves. Then when the universe cooled and went dark, expansion slowed. When stars began glowing, the additional energy released by the galaxies filled with stars continued to expand the distance between heavenly bodies. The following video explains this within the first minute better than what was just typed. LINK REMOVED

  18. (Disclaimer: I really want to hear the opinion of quantum scientists, if this is too off topic, I apologise) I had this question under Quantum Theory; if all matter/anti matter was living, the reason for the question, is kind of based on this theory. Maybe all living, is to consume(or try) untill there is nothing left. Maybe it is a battle, like imagine, life / (non life)matter being the Yin / Yang, actually fighting and consuming eachother for control/dominance Or life is an entity made to transfer matter into spiritual energy, or anti-matter.. reason for evolution is that (non life) matter is actually alive(in another sense), and fighting back, like…

  20. Higher Dimensions and the Formation of Space-Time Through Strings By Christopher Rodriguez Abstract Albert Einstein's Theory of general Relativity and the well established string theory have played major roles throughout the field of physics. Yet, as well as they work independently, when combined, they just don’t work out. Well, this paper aims towards solving that and discovering the true beginning of the universe. These findings show that general relativity and string theory can work together and maybe, just maybe, it could help solve the beginning of the universe. ____________________________________________________________________________ …

  21. Hi, I have not been on the forum for a while but I am back after some thought and writing a fresh post. Some of it is science, some of it is about the attitudes to science, especially on this forum. I have a number of questions I will ask as I go through, I will summarise them at the end. I am an amatuer phycist but I plan to go to university in the years ahead to work on this further. In my twenties, I am now 42, I had what I believed to be a profound insight about the universe. This insight matured over the years and I am convinced I have a framework for a theory of everything or final theory. It’s not strictly a theory of everything as it doesn’t explain ev…

Hi everybody, I am working on a model that uses the solution to a 2nd order DE, Ψ(e,ε), e=elementary charge, ε=electric constant, as probability amplitude for the electromagnetic field, EΨ. Applying this to a point charge gives: - quantized values for particle energy - as function of a partial product of powers over the fine-structure constant α, see table below for spherical + 1st angular symmetry term; - a numerical approximation of the fine-structure constant 1/α ≈ 4π Γ(1/3)|Γ(-1/3)| ( Γ=Gamma function); - magnetic moments, calculated from electromagnetic fields; agreement with experiment within factor of 2; and on a speculative level - a …

Perhaps time can be expressed as $$ t=\frac{Gh}{c^4} \int \frac{dS}{r} $$ Where S is the entropy of entanglement of an arbitrary closed surface. r is the radius to the surface point. Integration over a closed surface. This is very similar to the analogy. Time behaves as a potential, and entropy as a charge. From this formula there are several possible consequences. Bekenstein Hawking entropy for the event horizon. Light cone case $$ ct=r $$ $$ S=\frac{c^3r^2}{Gh} $$ Gravitational time dilation. The case if matter inside a closed surface processes information at the quantum level according to …

First question. I will lay this out in a series of questions, so please try to follow this thread as it evolves. 0 applied to the universe represents a state of the universe that is absent of both space and time. This is a naturally absolute value, which we can also be identified as a finite state. Although theoretically impossible in our universe, it could also be considered theoretically possible, giving it potential. Given the impossible nature of this state, however, it's potential would be infinite over time from our perspective. Mathematically, it can be represented as x=x, where x=0, because it is only equal to itself in comparison. Nothing…

  25. I think so. Every time I take one, I feel my consciousness slipping away. I was once told by an Egyptian gentleman, if you're on them 23 years since 17 you won't live long past 40. I think the NHS have got to cut us mental patients some slack, and find other ways to treat us rather than feeding us pills. Your input is valued, please contribute, thank you.
