Philosophy and Religion Rules

Participation in the philosophy and religion forums on SFN is considered a privilege. To maintain a reasonable standard of debate, certain rules must be established. Members who violate these rules despite warnings from staff will no longer be allowed to participate in the religion forums.

Philosophy/religion forum rules:

  1. Never make it personal.
    1. Disagreements about beliefs should never be in the form of attacks on the believers. This isn't a place to air grievances. Civility and respect towards other members are needed here even more than elsewhere on SFN, even when you disagree.
    2. Disagreements about beliefs should never be interpreted as attacks on the believers, even when they are. If you can't handle having your beliefs questioned, you don't belong here. If you feel insulted, that does not excuse you from rule 1.a.
  2. Don't use attacks on evolution, the big bang theory, or any other widely acknowledged scientific staple as a means of proving religious matters. Using scientific reasoning is fine, but there are certain religious questions that science cannot answer for you.
  3. Do not post if you have already determined that nothing can change your views. This is a forum for discussion, not lectures or debates.

Of course, the general SFN forum rules also apply. If a member consistently violates the general rules in the religion forum (for example, by being consistently off-topic), their access to the religion forum may be revoked.

These conditions are not up for debate, and they must be adhered to by all members. If you don't understand them, ask for advice from a moderator before posting.

We can take each month as being 30 years, obtaining, a period of 1260 years, precisely the period between 610 and 1870 A.D., when the Papacy was consolidated, after his birth, with the emperor Phocas, in 607, and the decree of papal infallibility with Pius IX, in 1870, which noted the decadence and absence of authority of the Vatican, in face of evolution scientific, philosophical and religious of Humanity. Science of the Bible As a chemical engineer, I understand, and subscribe to the tenets of the scientific method. If anything has given me an appreciation for the Profound Fortuitous Interdependencies* which make life possible, it is the objectivity engendered by my scientific background, coupled with common sense so often lacking in many well educated people. How anti-intellectual it is of the godless Left to denigrate Christians, often maliciously so. Calling Christians “fundies” and “believers in a flat earth” seems to give many people the perverse notion that they are erudite, and can consign Christians to the backwaters of ignorance. Just as Jesus overturned…

  3. I was taught by my grand parents that there exist positive energy near temples, and that is why it is good to visit temples once or twice in a week. Later I came across the science behind those positive energy is magnetic field produced by placing idol exactly in the center of sanctum sanctorum. But I was left unanswered how does recitation of mantras have impact on human body?

  4. When will religious belief, or belief in gods become a thing of the past? 100 years? 300 years? Never? Do you think most of humanity will ever drop superstition and embrace scientific and secular worldviews?

I am all for the freedom of thought. BUT in light of recent and historic atrocities accreditted to religious people does any one think religion should be banned globally? Does anyone have any idea at all what would be the best way of setting events in motion to ban religions in the developed world.

  6. I already found the answer to this question but I will ask this for those who don't encounter this question. What is the true essence of being a human-to be religious; to be scientific or both? In my point of view it is both.. In our nature we are religious but as we become more scientific, some disregard their religious nature and solely hold their newly develop scientific nature. But for me, it should blend well. We can't get rid of religion because it is our nature just like we can't get rid of eating because it is our nature to eat.To those who get rid of religion makes their life incompatible to the world. We can be scientific but at the same time we can be religious.…

From book "Atheism Delusion" by Ahmed al-Hasan a.s. - Pages 132 and 133: "The religious texts not only agree with biology and modern science, but they have also mentioned concious life forms, some of which are known today through fossils, meaning the human-like beings like some type of Homo Erectus, Homo Sapiens and the Neanderthal. These texts have stated that human like beings existed before humans, and some of them were rational, concious beings, but less so than humans. (Muhammad ibn Ali al-Baqir pbuh said: Since the creation of the earth, God Almighty has created seven peoples who are not descendants of Adam. He created them from the soil of the earth and caused th…

At Present MAN has established his Authority over the whole Earth and there seem to be NO CONTEST from any other BEINGS Living or Dead ! Perhaps Dinosaurs did Rule over the Earth sometimes back. That is just History now just as MAN'S Rule may also oneday turn out to be ! The Shape and Environment of the Earth as it once was has now been REENGINEERED BY MAN to suit his OWN FANCIES & PLEASURES ! Must really be looking totally different now. His Efforts Enterprise & Innovations are always ON THE RISE & many times DETRIMENTAL to the VERY SURVIVAL OF MAN HIMSELF …

  12. I never studied much philosophy, but I have thought about metaethics and religion quite a bit. Evaluating theism seems to require a predictive model of the behavior of the god, and such a model is difficult to fathom since a god is a mind and we tend to consider minds more whimsical than natural forces. This is where metaethics comes in. Ethics is concerned with what is ethical whereas metaethics seems more concerned with why one ought to be ethical. Some metaethicists argue that ethical behavior is rational, that the ethical choice is the objectively better choice in a way that we can grasp rationally. This presents a problem for theism if the god has to be ethical …

  13. I mean, ithe creation of adam was a miracle as shown here: about this by way of direct revelation The direct creation of Adam (can neither be confirmed nor denied by science in any way. This is because the creation of Adam was a unique and singular historical event. It is a matter of the Unseen and something that science does not have the power to confirm or deny. As a matter of the Unseen, We say the same for the miracles. Miraculous events, by their very nature, do not conform to scientific laws and their occurrence can neither be confirmed nor denied by science. I wonder, how is evolution a reason to doubt creationism. as well, some people believe in the virgin birth …

Many accept as a matter of fact that Jesus, as described by Christianity, was a real person and it is only his divinity that is up for debate. I grew up believing as much. As an adult I realized that I have never read credible information that proved a historical Jesus. In discussions with people through the years I have found that challanging a real life historical Jesus quickly becomes battles where I am asked to prove he wasn't real person. Ultimately there seems to be a general lack of proof either way. So I ask the forum for thoughts. Is the Christian story of Jesus based on an actual living man named Jesus who live around 2,000 years ago? Here is what I find…

  16. Christians disprove their own religion. The Bible says that Heaven is infinitely better than Earth and that Earth is miserable suffering. Shouldn't all Christians want to get to Heaven the promised land? There are some rules though: A christian may not commit suicide or it will go to hell. A christian may not murder another christian to send them to heaven, because murder is a sin, and if they commit a murder, but die before God forgives them, they can go to hell. But there are some options. Christians could be firefighters, and that would increase their chances of death, as well as give them good God points for saving them from fire. Or Christians could go to God-hat…

  17. On the topic of "Did Jesus Exist as recorded in the Bible", let us just cut to the quick. We have a record, as for another "myth", Plato's Atlantis, of a man born of The Virgin, transforming water to wine, multiplying food, healing diseases, raising people from the dead, and likewise even raising Himself after pronouncing to the Pharisees that, while they had corrupted the Synagogue into a financial institution, "Destroy this Temple (His body) ...", He would raise it again in three days. Is there any possibility that such feats are in fact possible by a soul which has made its will one with that of the Creative Energies Themselves, such that His Father, Abba as He called …

He had another veiw on it then me but we had a good discussion about why we thought different. During this the professor burst into the conversation and says he knows evolution is wrong because god tells him it is. In heingsight I dont think I should have let the conversation shift from one one education to one of religion but unfortunately I did and I dont think I did a very good job of defending science. The majority of the class made sure to let me know afterwards they were no monkeys and repeatedly offered me a banan…

We can't deny the fact that science greatly change our lives and the whole humanity. But I will go directly to this question, what is the status of science today in terms of verifying our worldviews?.. Does it verify the worldview of a theist or the worldview of an atheist or other worldviews? I hope that we can discuss our ideas here and I am willing to give my ideas as well as best as I can... Thank you very much in advance

Hi everyone, It's quite interesting how Christianity, Judaism and Islam are related. Each of the three religions consider Abraham as their first Prophet. The story goes that Abraham had two sons - Isaac, whose mother Sarah was Abraham's wife, and Ishmael, whose mother Hagar was Sarah's maid. Jews are the descendants of Isaac and his son Jacob. On the other hand, Muslims are believed to be the descendants of Ishmael, who was later expelled into the wild by his father. Jews differ from the Christians in their belief about Jesus. Christians look to Jesus as the Son of God, but Jews don't. That's the difference. But Muslims consider Muhammed as their original prophet and …

I was just wondering how to scientifically explain the prophesies in Daniel. They describe in detail the rise and fall of Babylon, Meado Persia, Greece (Alexander the Great), and Rome. Right now I'm talking about the old prophesies not the ones that haven't happened yet. We know this was written before the events happened because of old texts that state Alexander the Great visited Jerusalem. Thease texts (which are agreed upon to be cretable) state that he read the prophesies (which had to have been written before he got there) and thought he was the one fulfilling them. (Which he was.) Here is one of the prophesies for people who haven't heard them. (Not word for word.) …

  25. Not so popular quotes: Quote by Neil deGrasse Tyson: Quote by Robert A. Wilson: Quote by Jim Walker I express: One need not contact a paradigm, observed to likely express non-science (i.e. belief), when already, science persists. So, what are your thoughts, do you think beliefs are necessary? Footnote: Snippet from "non-beliefism". (Sig) Non beliefism (invented in 2016) is probably atheism's successor. For more information, see "nonbeliefism", in the top level domain (TLD).
