I have a vegetable garden and greenhouse. In the vegetable garden I will plant/sow salad, courgette, pumpkin, rhubarb, corn, sunflower and herbs. In my greenhouse I will plant tomatoes, peppers, a cucumber and salad. I've sown my tomatoes and one pepper inside at 15 march, they are now a couple cm tall. I fertilize with vinasse, fish emulsion and dry cow manure. I've added horse dung and compost the last years. Especially self grown tomatoes are a lot better then the ones you can buy in a store. Are there more gardeners on this forum? What do you grow?

  4. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-3146070/Mixed-race-relationships-making-taller-smarter-Children-born-genetically-diverse-parents-intelligent-ancestors.html Hi, Is it actually factually correct that mixed race children tend to grow up taller and smarter than more mono-racial children? Or is it simply another case of correlation and not causation necessarily? If it is undeniable fact that mixed race children tend to be taller and smarter, what is the scientific explanation exactly for this observation we see? Also, doesn't being taller mean a higher risk of getting cancer? Is it almost always preferable to procreate with someone of a diffe…

Hey guys, I found this cool video about the history of the entire world. I thought it was pretty cool and wanted to share it with you! Also, I wanted to get your input on what else the creator could have added onto it. Full credits to Bill Wurtz. Video:

  7. So I'm a research scientist for a small diagnostic company. Been working for the last 2.5 years. When I first started, I wasn't crazy about it(reasons listed below), but I waited till I moved up in my lab, hoping I'd have a new experience. Turns out, no. The lab I work in does very minimal science, and more of "product development", which involves slapping together a half-assed product that's already on the market with "XYZ" modification that company A doesn't have. The majority of my work is based around market strategy in product design, and very little investigative science. This company has the scientists acting as regulatory, marketing and part-time…

  8. I understand the film was shot in Italian and it was dubbed in English for the US, is that right? So is the Italian version the preferred version, the director's cut, the better version? Should I be watching it in Italian?

  9. How long does it take to learn how to speed read? I've never learnt how to but I am deeply interested in increasing my reading speed from your average 125-250 wpm to 500-1000 wpm without decreasing comprehension. How long does it usually take to learn how to speed read? Have their been any scientific tests on this?

  10. If you aren’t familiar with gamification it is where you turn learning into a game. This can anything from leveling up as you pass courses to the content being in the form of a game. You may have seen some of the children’s games where balloons fall that have math problems and when the child gets the math correct it pops the balloon. Gamifying learning can get much more complex though, and it has shown many superior qualities to regular learning systems. Gamification help with motivation: “Some of the best examples of gamification are exergames that encourage exercise by turning physical activity into a game.” http://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/0141076813…

IMG_20170813_0002.pdfI want to produce a drawing of an oddly shaped aquarium. The shape is so odd it's difficult to visualise, doubly so if i want to help someone else to visualise it. Does anyone here know how to draw objects, something like a mechanical type drawing. The actual shapes and proportions are more important that dimesions. The aquarium consists of three round tubes, It's easier to state sizes so the three round tubes are 48" in diameter, the center of each tube would be at the vertices of an equilateral triangle. Each side of the triangle is 96" long and each tube is connected to the next via a rectangular tank 48" long and 24" wide and the heig…

What's the best piece of software for organizing projects, charting goals, seeing what's on your agenda for the day / week / month / year, etc? I looked at iMind Map and it looks decent. Looking for something that will help me become more organized and efficient in executing my plans.

If God appeared before your eyes and told you that this world we are living in currently is actually a video game and that there is an afterlife that you automatically go to after you die with no conditions/requirements/strings attached but no Heaven or Hell, how would you change how you live your life today?

Maybe it is a boring theme, but if someone wants to comment, I will be happy to read. What do you think is happening to Venezuelan society? Can this be called a degradation? Or is this only a fluctuation on path of progress? Or is this actually a progress when looked from a different perspective? Or is it just a logical consequence of some external pressure? To me, Venezuela is an interesting example to study as it has plenty of natural resources. My personal opinion is that this already can be called degradation. When I look at individuals in this society I understand that the each individual strives for the better. Yet, the society as a whole spirals down…

Wouldn't a small capsule - that has external arm/gloves - be more practical for working in free fall than a space suit with legs? Seems like legs are mostly not used on space walks and having space suits with them adds complications that serve no real purpose. You could pull your arms back inside a capsule and scratch your bum - do all those necessary things like eat, drink, piss, blow your nose or wipe off sweat. Also you could have access to the essential hardware, in case. A capsule wouldn't have to have a lot of internal space. It would also be possible to have mechanical grabbers and tools operated by internal controls. Any designs for such a thing out there?

I am about to get a new monitor. I am stuck between a 22'' and 24'' Dell monitors. They are the same quality and resolution, the only difference being the size. Now, everyone is suggesting I get the bigger one because it's - bigger but I don't quite get it. Can't I just buy the smaller one and bring it a bit closer to me? That's why I don't get it when people buy 30+ inch monitors and keep them far away from their eyes. Everyone seems to smirk at that remark, the argument being - ''well it's bigger''. Can anyone give me an actual reason why a bigger monitor would be better?

Hey everyone Does someone know what programme is used to make graphs as in the figures attached? Doesn't look like SPSS or R, but they seem to be the product of the same programme, and their layout is very recurring among scientific (medical) literature. I'd like to adapt that style so I'd like to know what programme they were made in. Thanks. Functionella blah blah

Does anyone know when and if the bog standard TV coax plug has changed its specification or better can provide any dimensioned drawings? It a long time since did any wiring of coax aerial cable but I have a box of coax plugs and other fittings from the mid 1970s (new). Needing to wire up a new TV and aerial I fitted these to new cable and plugged in the aerial. The TV steadfastly refused to acknowledge the aerial and I noticed some trouble plugging in. Sourcing some modern new coax plugs and fitting one of these resulted in immediate life in the TV. So I inspected the older plugs and compared them with the newer ones. Average ce…
