  1. I'm not a scientist yet, but I want to be, so I'm trying to do a cool experiment at home. I want to do a plant grow up inside a box with an artificial light and a solar panel, using the sunlight to turn on a light bulb. But I think this idea has a lot of problems, for example, energetically speaking the artificial light will be weaker than sunlight, so on cloudy days, a plant doesn't will have so much light. If you guys have any suggestions for how I can make this, like the type of plant, of solar panel, of the light bulb, or anything, please tell me your idea. I am in this forum to learn English too, so feel free to correct me.

  2. Hello, i think even if thanks quantum computers human brains were fully understood and proved there is no such thing as free will, people would still believe whatever they want to. 4/10 people believe than world isn't older than 10k years in murica... https://www.livescience.com/46123-many-americans-creationists.html Btw evolution is fact, it is not even theory... Because everything is predetermined, or coinflippy and it is beneficial for us to believe we have free will for our survival and we also think we have free will from experience in everyday life when we are deciding, so it is hard to believe for people it is illusion, they would probably still beli…

Hi. Stuck with mental farts on how to make a graphical decision chart, for using thermal switches. Suggestions please ? Perhaps someone lucid has done it ? Attic temperature can vary -20C to +50C along the year. Exterior ambient temperature can vary -20C to +40C along the year. Desired temperature in dwelling 15C to 25C , outside that range, energizing HVAC system is allowed. Bidirectional fans located at boundaries attic/living area ; living area/exterior. Thermometers/thermostats located in the three locations (attic, exterior, living area) to command fans for the correct air flow direction to avoid energizing HVAC. Exampl…

Hi. I have been summoned as a free literary consultant. Without receiving a penny? So is. The wife of my lifelong friend, when he heard something I once said, began to plan a novel. On that occasion I said the following. --------- Take the Euclidean geometry as an example. Euclid chose as postulates the simplest and most intuitive notions. He derived from them theorems, in increasing order of complexity. The Euclidean geometry, presented in that form, is coherent and complies with all the logical rules. Someone could change the order of the presentation. How would that be? Instead of postulating the most intuitive notions, propose as postulates some of the high-l…

A corner is a junction between two ways, either horizontally or vertically aligned, with or without other corners. When passive in cornered space our eyes become over-tired to the spiralling rhythm, of travelling from corner to corner and sensing corners (where we stop and register two ways). Our eyes will dart either way when they meet a corner, and we get used to the rhythm of cornered off space. We are always reading leftward or rightward when presented with a corner, because that is what is perceived either sub-optically or normally. When in a house, subliminally, and normally, we register corners, and are deluded by logic of corners, lost in a spi…

What does dark brown beer or maybe even black beer taste like? Not really a fan of beer as I only drink to get wasted and I prefer something sweet like a vodka cruiser that comes in fruity flavors. I have tasted light beers, you know the yellow colored ones but haven't tasted the darker selection. What does it taste like and why is darker in color than regular beers?

I recently completed the 2nd season of West World. I was disappointed with all the biblical references but am overall encouraged at the direction the story is going. I do have a couple questions about the show and am interested in seeing what others here have have sent it thought. *I assume anyone who participates in this discussion has seen both seasons so I do not plan on avoiding discussing key plot points and reveals.

Like ThePirateBay to download the torrents and use the torrents with Utorrent or some other one. I have save tons of money from using Torrents and am very thankful for its existence. Free information, free movies, free shows and free books... etc SO MUCH MORE! What are your experiences like with Torrents and do you use them? (I know I explain it weird cause I don't know all the terms to use but I know how to use them) Edit: There was this course that costs 250 bux each and so I saved 500 dollars from having to buy it. Also I saved a lot more by downloading free mathtutordvd courses.

I was invited from a friend, at least I hope he thinks of me as a friend, I try to befriend everyone online. I never ignore or block people. I think of myself a rational person, as an empiricist, and I try to attack arguments, not people. I attempted to post in the Religious thread, and it's been about 2 hours now, my comment is pending approval. In the meantime, my friend at G+ thought I should introduce myself. Is all that really necessary to initiate discussion relative these topics? Just wonderin'. Hadn't really needed to do this at any other forums I've posted at. Is that the norm here?

  14. I shared some articles and pictures of my life in my WeChat moments. A normal male friend kindly commented on them and we happily chatted for a while. Next day I went through his moments and read his poets I feel most of them are quite sentimental, so I left a comment there: you have a successful career and life why you are so unhappy ? he replies : nothing to do with my career, it is just how i feel about the life ! me : you seem always sentimental. then he replies: yes, quite. Days later I found I was deleted from his WeChat.... Am I so wrong of saying such words to him ? Is it true he is really sentimental ? Or I have very poor communication skill ? Or…

Recently someone posted a quote that was attributed to Aristotle "“It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it". As so often on the internet it is a widespread attribution that does not seem to be accurate. In Nicomachean ethics Aristotle said (and I add preceding lines to add context): "Therefore, in a discussion of such subjects, which has to start with a basis of this kind, we must be satisfied to indicate the truth with a rough and general sketch: when the subject and the basis of a discussion consist of matters that hold good only as a general rule, but not always, the conclusions reached must be of the same order. …

  16. What would you think the effect of suddenly realizing that dozens of civilizations more less like ours exist within 100 light years of the Earth. Let's say we realized that an odd part of the EM spectrum we hadn't really checked was flooded by signals but we realized none of the planets were Earth like, all were either very hot Venus like planets or very cold Titan like planets. The Fermi Paradox would be solved for sure and I think the simplest reason we hadn't seen them physically here would be that they would be more or less as confined to their planetary systems just like we are, but how do you think our own civilization/societies/cultures would be affected? Religion…

Okay so our 28 month old is driving us both nuts. He’s at an age where he’s testing us and we both agree that borders need to be established otherwise mayhem. He can literally throw a steel toy car at my Pioneeer amp 17 times untill I take the toy car from him and I’m sticking to not giving it back to him to try to establish the borders. At this point he’s entering the febrile spasm mode deliberately choking in agony which is fine by me, I’m sticking to not giving in. Analogous situations are happening a few times a day for the past 2 weeks or so and both me and my partner are basically in agreement about how to deal with it. My question is, what are/were your ways o…

  19. Do you think they make a lot of profit? Just finished reading an article about artificial diamonds made in the lab and it is exactly the same structure as a diamond that took billions of years to produce. Price is said to be 30 percent less for artificial diamonds. That should be some decent money right there and good for a buyer who doesn't really care for it to be billions of years old... link: https://www.ritani.com/blog/diamonds/diamond-faq-lab-grown-diamonds-vs-real-diamonds/

Hello Forum, I wanted to start a gardening thread for those passionate about this. I was always passionate about having a small piece of ground and taking care of it but I realise I am missing some knowledge in some areas. I recently bought a small garden close to my house (click on spoiler) and as you can see it's in pretty bad shape. I am aware that I wont get to plant anything this year but my questions relate to the planing for next year. 1: I need to put a fence around it. 2: I want to remove some small trees and bushes. (don't ask why but I absolutely hate hibiscus) 3: I want to plant just a few veggies (like chillies) next year. My quest…

  24. I was watching a documentary on YouTube, well I have watched it ages ago but someone else posted about the Ferris wheel looking thing that supposedly produces "FREE ENERGY" on here and it popped up back in my mind. I am wondering what they mean by free energy as they talk about it when referring to perpetual motion as well. I know this is impossible according to current laws of physics. So what is free energy?

Long story long: Weekday morning, about quarter of seven, sun's up, I'm driving back roads to get to my destination, very light traffic, beautiful weather. I have the radio on, I have a coffee in the cup holder, and I'm using cruise control to keep me at the speed limit of 40 mph as I sip my coffee and enjoy the drive. The roads I'm on are mostly straight shots, with very few curves. It's not a difficult drive. There's nobody in front of me, and the car behind me is pretty far behind me, and seems to also be doing the speed limit since he isn't getting any closer. Perfect! I'm in a nice zone and all is well. Eventually I get to stop light that's red. I stop and the g…
