Mind! Introduction In its simplest form, mind is about being aware of oneself, and of the world around oneself. For some, mind is strictly confined to human brains while others see it everywhere. So, where is mind and how does it work? Were is the Mind in the Brain? After decades of scientific investigation and ongoing debate, no center has yet been found in the brain for subjective experience. Research so far has yielded inconclusive results. Where the “I” resides in the machine remains elusive (references below). Searching for the Mind in Nature! Mounting evidence points to intelligence being everywhere in nature. Animals, even small ones, …

Where is mind in the brain? unanswered How does the mind work through the brain? unanswered As long as these two questions remain undetermined, we cannot be absolutely certain that mind is brain based. A minority of neuroscientists are starting to have a look at panpsychism, because the data does not always seem to fit with a brain-based model Terminal lucidity and near-death experiences may be manifestations of mind outside brains, but the jury is still very much out on these two! Collective consciousness - Carl Jung Mind – another dimension or dimensionless (without time nor space) I do not think that you can query the subjective in th…

I've looked on sites the internet, but haven't been able to find out about these little darting specks of light that I see when I look up towards the sky. They don't appear to be in the sky, but are more like somehow produced in the actual eye, as I believe they move with the movement of my eyes. They're not "floaters", as they look very different to them (much brighter, for starters). I've never noticed them when I've been indoors, so I think that bright natural light is a factor. So, kind friends, can I ask a few questions of anyone willing to answer any of them, and maybe help me out? : -Firstly, and most crucially, does anyone know what they are? -Do you see t…

Whenever I drink water I get a stomach ache, sometimes it makes me nauseous or I feel like throwing up. My family swears up and down that it's probably all the milk I drink and that I'm probably some form of lactose-intolerant, but milk never makes me sick or hurts my stomach it does nothing but make me feel better when I drink it. I felt dehydrated last night and nor pop or milk or gatorade was quenching this feeling, I felt like I was missing something you know and it was making me not feel very good. So I figured I needed water and I got a bottle from the fridge and started taking some drinks. I don't like the taste of water so it wasn't a grand experience. Within minu…

Are you able to blur your vision whenever you like and for as long as you want, to switch from sharp to blur in a second at your own command? this involves the conscious control of the ciliary muscles which are in charge of the auto focus of your vision. The talent involves neurosensory and neuromuscular pathways and controls. I would like to know your opinion as I have been asking to several research institutes and it seems the ability is not really known, only few people can do it naturally did you know about this?

1. THE BRAIN, the seat of the mind and conscious existence. Without a conscious mind, human or otherwise, nothing matters, nothing in the universe is relevent, what does the beauty of a songbird or rose mean without the means to perceive such beauty in the first place? Consciousness is the single most beautiful thing of Mother Nature, the single greatest natural miracle, and the paradox of this is that consciousness is also the ugliest thing of nature: consciousness means pleasure but it also means misery: the brain is a true case for "mind over matter", without a mind, nothing matters 2. REPRODUCTIVE ORGANS, the single greatest feeling in nature, sex, would not be p…

Or does anybody know of the scientific explanations for empath's abilities? By "empath" I mean people who claim to experience the emotions of people near them. The only explanations I've found are "mirror neurons" and "mirror-touch synesthesia", but I want to know if other explanations exist. Any links to peer reviewed articles, or articles written by reputable authors would be appreciated. Thanks!

Is it worse to experience an intense negative emotion in a nightmare or to experience that same emotion at the same intensity while awake? Does being fully conscious somehow make the emotional experience worse? Or would both emotional experiences be just as bad?

Something REALLY bizzar just happened at my appartment. I was hungry, and since today it's Pessach (jewish holiday), all the food in my house is reserved for the grand dinner - so I had nothing natural to eat. Being extremely hungry, and not wanting to eat my insides, I decided I'll warm some of those iced meals in my microwave. I did. And after 3 minutes, when I openned it and took the plate out, I discovered that appearantly - without noticing - a little ant found her way into my plate. Disgusting as it is (I still ate it, I was hungry! ) there's a few things I just couldn't avoid wondering: How the heck did that ant stay alive after being cooked for…

(The title will make sense later, I told one of the members that I'd name it this..) Lets talk about the birds and the bees. I was speaking to some people in the chat room about the difference between vaginal and anal sex. I believe that through a closer look at human anatomy one can conclude that our bodies seem to be geared and structured for the union of male and female genitalia via the vagina rather than the anus. Although many would say that there is no inherent meaning in the universe I believe that male and female bodies may actually be meant to be together as opposed to same sex couplings. I have gay friends and have experimented on both sides of the …

Since about 8 years ago I have been occasionally experiencing the sudden appearance of a bright blue dot in my vision. The frequency with wich it occurs also varies: sometimes I see them a few times a day, sometimes not for weeks. It is not longer present than 2 seconds and is not moving, even if my visionfield changes (= even if I look at something else). Also, they appear in different surroundings: regardless of lightintensity and coloursetting. They can appear with a background of a white wall in daylight, as well as in dark with different coloured background. I've never experienced a pressure on my eyes or head when it happens. In other words, I haven't discovered a c…

It seems to me that evolution is off-topic, or not very important to the topic. More importantly and less contrversially science (the natural kind) cannot explain consciousness, and this alone means giving a negative answer to the OP's question. It hardly needs saying that it cannot explain metaphysics either. Horses for courses.

Hello, Are we more likely to get bad dreams when we are younger? Is it something to do with the person's knowledge about the dream itself and their belief that it is real, not too sure. Thanks in advance

I recently heard someone giving a speech on the brain and they said 'there are more connections in the brain than atoms in the universe'. I started to think about it and i can't get my head around it becasue surely for a connection at the very least 2 atoms are needed, therefore there can't be more connections than half the number of atoms in the brain. Anyone know if what he said was true or is he speaking crap??

Hi, I started lucid dreaming a few months ago. I got my first 3 lucid dreams on 1 night without using reality checks, but then I started to do it. The first time I tried it I tried to push my finger through my palm in my dream, which DIDN'T work, right after that I pinched my nose and tried to breathe, which DID work so I became lucid. This month I have done 5 reality checks in total in my dreams and it didn't work anytime :(. When I'm awake and do my reality checks I do it in this order: Looking around and see if I can see anything unusual. Looking at the time 3 times and see if it changes. Try to do telekinesis. Pinch my nose and try to breathe 3 times.…

I am 29 years old and I have never played any sports before but I have been interested in sports for several days. I am 183 cm tall and I hate my height. I am very envious of people who are over 190 cm tall at the age of 17. How many centimeters could I gain maximum? I read various articles and wrote that it must be forever. What’s the truth? Is there any cheap way (I am unemployed) to maximize my height? Is there any free and possibly cheapest way? (I’m unemployed)? Don’t reply this type that nothing can be done or that I accept my height?

She's 37 and lives near Washington. I talk to her on the phone fairly frequently, but don't see her often. She called me this morning and the conversation started out, "I don't know how to tell you this." She said she had been having headaches, and they have been getting worse. Yesterday she had vision problems and went to the doctor. He ordered a CT scan of her head. Her doctor called this morning and said there is "an irregularity" in the scan. She is going to have an MRI tomorrow with contrast. She is scared witless. I am very worried. I'm not really asking a question here - I know I'll just have to sit tight until I hear the results. I don't like this…

I'm just curious to know opinions, and bear with me because I may just be ignorant, But It stands to reason for me that the only possible cause of morbid obesity is consuming too many calories, If you don't put somthing in your body cannot very well produce fat. I just have a few friends who fit in this category and have heard everything from underlying genetic conditions to "I don't eat that much" etc. I completely understand food addiction, or gorging etc. but if these people cannot acknowledge to themselves that the cause is over indulgence then they're not going to get healthy. Just my opinion. What is yours?

So I've had this "ability" to make my body, especially legs and hands, to have this weird tingling/electrified feeling at will. It is a rather pleasant feeling, and the longer I "hold" it, the more intense it gets. I can feel myself taking deeper breaths while experiencing it and also a raise in heart rate. I would say it gets the most intense in feet, and least in upper body and head. It feels like actual heath in the part of body I'm feeling it. I've had it as long as I can remember but never really thought about it or tried it that much, but today I started thinking about it, googled it and found out several other people trying to explain the same feeling, however…
