  6. I have my speculations that I am. I drank 2 3 cupfulls of choclate milk before I went to sleep about 2 days ago, and let me tell you something. I was not comfortable once I went to bed. There was a lot of "thunder from down under" if you know what I mean. What about your experiences.

  8. Hi guys, I recently heard that now there are glasses that you can buy if you are colour blind to see the missing colours from one's regular vision (http://enchroma.com/). I am just wondering and have been thinking all humans are actually all colour blind to a large extent as we cannot see the large range of light out there except what is in the visible light spectrum. The mantis shrimp for example (http://www.livescience.com/42797-mantis-shrimp-sees-color.html) has 12 colour receptors in its eyes and has excellent vision. Will science ever advance in our century enough to provide glasses which we can use to see light from the infrared, UV and other ranges so…

I've got a sudden chess tournament coming up tomorrow. I haven't practiced or studied, but I would still like to do well. I have identified that my most major issue in chess (and other things) is lack of concentration. It happens more often than it should that I have a good/better position then I blunder after a long game because I lose focus and just wait for the game to be over. That's why I'm disproportionately bad at blitz (speed) chess as opposed to classical. It's not just chess. When I studied for college, I would often just stare at the page for a long time not reading anything, because my mind tends to wander off too much. Does anyone know of any good wa…

Brilliant use of the comma in a recent moderator decision: And, while we are at it, there is the Oxford comma: And the comma of direct address (more informally known as the Donner Party comma) which makes the difference between: "Let's eat, Grandma!" and "Let's eat Grandma!"

I didn't see any general discussion immediate bitcoin threads on SFN in the search the last time I looked, so I am making this thread. I'm outsourcing. If you don't know about bitcoin, you may want to start here: https://bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf I have read and read about the bitcoin project, and it seems great. I took some accounting classes in high school, been paid a paycheck, had to experience what it's like to "know the value of a dollar," so I understand the principles of what is going on. What I like about Bitcoin is that on a more mature level, it's like it's auditing the value of a dollar so that you REALLY know what it means to earn that dollar, thus r…

  14. Instagram, twitter or Facebook have been a thief of a teenage's time and mostly some adults. Back into the big question "How a teenager should manage the social media?" the answer should be to control the time that we spend on it? we just delete our accounts? how much care we have to have? And i mean, when we post a picture on our profile is a past in that. How we add the effects, why we choose that photo. The media is taking ourselves more dependent of others. and thats is good or wrong? Should we spend many time a day checking others life...? the cyberbullying is increasing because more people care about this medias. Whats the right and smart solution? Put your account …

  16. I'm currently taking Zyban and due to stop smoking completely this coming Monday. I think I can handle the withdrawal in the day because it's not too hard to find something to do to distract myself but lying in bed at night when there's nothing but my own thoughts, before I fall asleep, might be a big challenge. Anybody have any ideas how to deal with it? It might not be a problem because the Zyban should be fully working by then but I don't know how much yet it will attenuate the withdrawal symptoms. I'm trying to preempt the problem and be ready to deal with it if it turns difficult at that time of night,

I'd like to hear from native speakers of English only here. When I say someone works as a salesman, does that mean to you someone who works at a store (say selling computers) or does that word have a more general meaning that includes that, as well as someone sitting at an office, calling people up to offer them wares, traveling salesmen etc.? If I want to refer to someone who works at a computer store or a shoe store, would you refer to that as a retail salesman, necessarily?

  20. "There's only one true king of rock 'n' roll," said Stevie Wonder. "His name is Chuck Berry." The death at a great age of one of the true legends - and the coolest musician perhaps ever http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-39321495 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-11991161 And is this possibly one of the greatest memorials that could be imagined? 21. The US army has just declassified and scanned some old footage of atomic bomb test which were on the brink of becoming unusable. Here is the playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLvGO_dWo8VfcmG166wKRy5z-GlJ_OQND5 I thought some of these might be interesting for you from a physics perspective, especially the one detonated high in the air, which shows a uniform fireball followed by some interesting physics. This last one looks especially mesmerizing to me:

I'm not really sure what I want to study, career wise I want to become a scientist, doing research and publishing scientific articles, but in terms of what science I want to be performing I'm not certain of that. Here is what I like and do not like with the scientific branches: Mathematics + Can be used to explain how everything works. + Doesn't require a great deal of memorization, more about truly understanding the logic behind it. + Very logical and fun to learn. + Challenging in a reasonable way (not like having to memorize 200 pages). - Not something I would major as since I simply want to use mathematics as a tool. Physics + I like how it explai…

  23. To be honest I have always had a phobia of IQ tests even though I have a 1700 chess rating, decoded the Voynich to Middle English and recently came up with a Grand Unification Theory. To be honest I think I'm humble when I meet face to face with people, but online I believe I may come across as arrogant, but that is my own perception. If you would like a challenge at chess.com lets log on and do the battle of the ego's so I can destroy your id. @Strange I really would like to play you in Chess, if you understand the game. I've not traveled much as an adult, but when I traveled as a child with my parents all I ever needed was a passport, but I keep hearing people talk about visas, even if its just tourism rather than going to a country to work. I should say, I've only traveled within Europe (including from non-EU countries to EU countries). I'm wondering, what are the situations in which someone would need a visa if they were just staying briefly in the country and not going for work?
