Hello all! ? If urine were passed through a medium...a filter of some sort....would it produce filtered urine? would the urine still be conciderd urine? I want to find out if urine can be voided through a filter and cleaned of toxins or markers that could be used as information for a case of genetic discrimination against the person making pee pee in the cup.

Hi Everyone, I was looking around in my closit, and found an old black light. I was wondering: -What harm could it cause to myself if I turned it on? -How harmful is radiation from typical black lights, does it matter if this one is old, like maybe 15 years? -What common materials may I store it inm ore does it need to be stored in a UV absorber at all? THE MODEL IS A: 365nm Spectronic B-14N with a BLE-220B Long Wave UV Tube. Is that dangerouse at all, is it too powerful??? I look foward to reading your responses... they will save me (or cause me) much worrying.

so i dont know if any of the terms i'm about to use are correct, but this is just something im randomly very curious about. Does hair have a magnetic field where it can be attracted if something has the right polarized charge. Or is there a way to charge a hair in order to magnitze it and attract it. Again no idea if im even using the right terms, just wondering if an object emits a certain field polar or magentic or electormagnetic whatever the right term is, if it will attract the hair to it. Any light shed on the matter would be appreciated, and sorry if everything i said really makes me sound stupid lol. Thanks.

So I have been studying evolution and seeing how people from different parts of the world adapt to their enviroment. So the data I have gathered so far is that humans with a darker skin tone gives them the advantage in areas closer to the equator, people with lighter skin tone are adapted to lower light levels further away from the equator. Here is the further information. "Surprisingly, the team found no immune genes under intense selection, which is counter to hypotheses that diseases would have increased after the development of agriculture. The paper doesn’t specify why these genes might have been under such strong selection. But the likely explanation for t…

Okay, now heres the catch. Does anyone of you know of anything such as "special paper" so that when you burn it, the ashes rise up? my science teacher did that today.. pretty impressive! we were SURE that it was no hoax with no strings attached etc. Very interesting.. just wondering because its been bothering me... (by the way.. im not like a expert in science but maybe it SOMEHOW was made in a way that the smoke carried the ashes up? i dont know... but it was in a classroom, about standard size, the celing was around 8 feet... and the ashes floated up then slowly drifted down again. Sorry for the long post. I would be VERY happy if you guys could answer. If you don't k…

I guess this is more of a philosophical thought than it is a scientific thought, but its something I was discussing with an inferior mind earlier today.. Lets say we have a machine that reads all the atoms of a person, sends the information over some sort of medium where a machine on the other side reconstructs the atoms with the "blueprint" that came over the line.. Lets also assume that the machine that sent the data deconstructs the original atoms and stores them for later use (another teleportation or something). Two questions: Is this teleportation? Why or why not.. Is the "teleported" person the same person as the original? Why or why not. I argu…

I recently received a question by e-mail from my mom: The only references online to stainless steel turning yellow mention passivation, which I don't know much about but which doesn't sound like something you can do by leaving the kettle on too long. Any ideas?

I read somewhere last year that a scientist, for an experiment, made some glasses that turned his vision upside down. Then after about three weeks of weeks of wearing them, his vision switched, and when he was wearing the upside down glasses, his vision was normal. I want to try that experiment. Does anyone have any ways to make them? Thanks Joshua PS, I am doing this no matter what. Even if you peoples say I shouldn't, I still will. I think that it will make life interesting. Doing this endangers my life in no way, so I will do it!!!

Hello everyone, I'm a Physics teacher in a secondary school and I'm doing a little research into why the number of females in Physics A level classes and undergraduate courses (only about 20%) is so low. If I could please take 5-10 minutes of your time by asking you to fill out this survey: https://www.quicksurveys.com/s/c6J3EnS I also encourage you to pass the link around to anyone you think may be interested in giving their opinions. It is anonymous and open to everyone, I just ask for your honest opinions. At this stage I will likely put out a second survey informed by the responses to this one, so if you'd like to suggest pertinent questions t…

Okay so I got this „bar of soap” made of stainless steel (I think) I’ve had it for years and I have no idea where I have it from, probably someone gave it to me as a present 15 or 20 years ago. The purpose of this thing (I remember that) is to get rid of garlic/onion scent from your hands by washing in cold water and this bar of steel soap. The thing is that this actually works and I want to know exactly why? I’ve tried every combination of washing with/without it and always the steel soap wins, it clearly does what its supposed to do. Why is it that steel (and cold water) helps in getting rid of scents from your hands? The Bolognese will be ready in about 1 hour by …

What is your favorite experimental "mishap"? Mine would have to be the time I decided to drill a hole in my potato cannon to see if the added oxygen concentration would have an effect on the firing distance. I forgot to point the hole away from me. ouch.

I was once told that glass is not a solid but is a liquid. Is this true? I was told that that is the reason the large skyscrapers filled with glass windoes have to flip the glass 180 degrees because the gravity causes the glass to taper leaving the top side more narrow over time.

The critical issue everyone seems to miss is that the meaning of the phrase "without making presumptions". Apparently it is something no one on this forum seems to comprehend. I am opening this thread because it seems that responses to my earlier post, "Understanding Reality", have totally degenerated to into silly meaningless garbage without any sign of thought at all. If no one here is capable of comprehending what I am saying I will stop posting my thoughts. Please consider the following facts very carefully! Coming up with an explanation of anything requires comprehension of a language first. If there are readers who believe that is not a fac…

Could it be a hoax ?

I'm asking for a measure, in your subjective opinion: on a scale from 1 to 10, 1 being "steely cold but strongly unified", 10 being "warm with plenty of room for dissent," how would you describe the scientific community?

I've read that the technology exists to power a car with hydrogen fuel cells. I've even heard that successful prototypes have been created. Scientists claim that the problem with selling these vehicles to the public would be a lack of hydrogen, but I'm not sure how this could be a problem. Can't you just take water, and extract the hydrogen by using an electric current? Why are we unable to power our cars with water? Is the technology just not ready yet, or is it physically impossible? Or, does it simply have to do with political reasons? I'm sure the government would lose a lot of tax money if everybody stopped purchasing oil.

There is something wrong with which I am going to say now, but I can't put my finger on it. Something must be wrong! The Earth spins anticlickwise when looking from the North. Let's say a plane takes off from Britain and heads towards India or something. It is now travelling with the movement of the Earth, does that mean it is moving faster than the Earth's rotation? Now, let's take the opposite. The plane is now heading towards the USA, it is going against the Earth's rotation. When it lands, shouldn't the plane, and its passengers be thrown backwards, because on the ground, it will be experiencing the movement of the Earth? Something is all wrong here! Can …

Not exactly sure where this should go, feel free to move it. I'm starting to think that we human beings are from another planet. Sure there's no proof, but it could explain why all 'UFO' and 'alien' sightings are top secret classified documents. Anyway, here's my reasoning: First off, what are the odds that a species evolved, or was created, that completely threw off the natural balance in the world? Before humans, creatures hunted only for food, and hunted only the weak, old, and sick. Before humans, forests kept the world nice and clean (now many of us can barely breathe without coughing, who knows how the animals feel?) Next, we seem to be deevolving. The f…

Do you agree with the physicist Brian Greene? I also heard this reasoning from Michio Kaku. I strongly disagree. They reason that we would be no more interesting to an ETI than an ant hill is of interest to us. There are lots of ant hills on Earth, but we don't know how many Earths there are in the galaxy, or more importantly within 1,000 light years of us. So far, Earth is very unusual and would be of great interest to any ET. The Rare Earth Hypothesis explains the Fermi Paradox, and also why we would be of great interest to ANYONE more advanced to us. Kepler Mission has NOT found many Earth 2.0s out there. Neither has the TESS (transiting exoplanet survey satel…
