Speculations
Pseudoscientific or speculatory threads belong here.
The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:
- Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
- Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
- Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.
The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

The question of how the universe came into existence is a mystery. I was thinking that the answer to that is simply: 0/0. If we look at this mathematically then it kind of makes sense. Let "0" represent the universe before it came into existence. x=0 x/0 = infinity x/x = 1 nx/x = n Could nothingness be impossible and if so could the universe have been created 14 billion years ago or could it have just been there forever? What if there had always been a universe and all matter was compressed into a singularity which at one moment in time made a big bang? What do you think?

Are the carcinogens, carried in smoke, from BBQ meat more detrimental to one's health than second hand smoke from a cigarette? I understand that grilling meat is different to barbecuing it, I've even read that smoke from burnt toast is bad, so, how much scientific proof is there of this? I've been around online but I can't find anything concrete, anybody know? Thanks.

hay all im a creationist the earth is around 6000 yo etc etc, the literature "Origin of human chromosome 2: An ancestral telomere-telomere fusion" has imo 4-5 NON SCIENTIFIC "FAILS" in it. ie "is precisely that predicted for a head-to-head telomeric fusion of two chromosomes" i can predict any effect today and "link" it to an UNOBSERVED "cause" (MACRO-evolution) in the past if i want....and call it science in the process... "The data we present here demonstrate that a telomere-to-telomere fusion of ancestral chromosomes occurred, leaving a pathognomonic relic at" cites some unobserved cause in the past (look at word "occurred) and this is the corn…

Well - indeed, if traveler measures and controls to be equal (it’s always possible) his proper +/- acceleration when boosting (slowing down) to Alpha C and proper time by own clock, he can return in the homebody’s reference frame practically with zero speed. If he, after stop, will measure the distance "Alpha C- Earth" (e.g., by the parallax method) and obtain his speed value, it will turn out that his speed is 1.7 c. Besides - the "twin paradox" is considered as usual as "clock paradox", but it has also another side: if the traveler, moving in the inertial section of the travel, will measure the homebody’s energy, this energy will be rather large – when homebody did…

hay all just thought id throw a spanner in the works so to speak lol please watch these videos of the worlds frontman of neo darwinian theory saying himself that (my interpretation) macro-evolutionary "theory" has never been observed and the official story is it started and stopped a long time ago without observation. also please look in your nearest dictionary for the definition of the word "science". you will notice the words OBSERVABLE EMPIRICAL TESTABLE REPRODUCIBLE etc etc........that said please view the following and comment.... from 16.15 on, notice richard dawkins comment "thats true".................................................…

hi i just thought id try out this methodology of doing something/analyzing something and see how it works. let us look at september 11 from a scientific perspective. i will try to "model" it, please someone comment on somethings if they want... i will assign just one or two things to the fact column (no one debates these they are easily verified observations, no one would doubt them,) then the opposing explanations in there relevant column and see how we go from there... ( i have never done this before but its so easy and makes so much sense etc) please just look at pic briefly on google too of what it *used* to look like (wtc7) ( if i could i would have 3 sepa…

How creditable is the multi verse in lieu of traditonal idea of physics or singular universe? Does M-theory have any validation in regards to linear time or modes of possible deterministic universe? How creditable is the argument and how far along does the multi verse start to play into psuedo science, like the poorly made documentary What The Bleep Do We Know? I want real answers as they play into philosphical ideas of determinism and play on religions of Judaism or mirror ball like beliefs of Hinduism. Please no religious related answers, but consider these applications in your answers and provide no bias or fallacious rhetroric. Forum is now open for discussion.

There are well-known physicists/cosmologists who are widely published in peer-reviewed journals, and who publish articles which contain postulates which are nonverifiable. It appears to me that that goes against forum policy rules. My question is this: How are we to handle such theories which contain such postulates? If we read such articles and want to discuss them here is it cosidered speculation an has to remain in this forum or if its peer reviewed can we discuss it in the physics forums. I'm refering to physicists such as Alan H. Guth and Paul Davies. See Alan H. Guth et al - http://arxiv.org/abs/0808.3778 -- Journal Reference - (not sure -please see ref)…

If matter and anti-matter were held out of existence in opposite directions by the weak force. And all the matter outside of existence on one side was held together by the strong force. And all the anti-matter outside of existence on opposite side was being held together by the strong force. Then a photon could be an oscillation of matter and anti-matter popping in and out of existence in turn against the weak force. As matter pops into existence anti-matter pops out,and visa versa .Planks constant h being the energy of one cycle and the energy of a photon being h*f. If 2 photons with a high enough energy collide, they overcome the strong force and an electron/pos…

Don't laugh, but this is interesting. Not knowing the language makes it difficult to understand his principal. While it seems to be what might be considered a con job, I was hoping someone might be familiar with the process he is demonstrating? Does anyone have a schematic of the system? Is it for real? His video is at the very bottom of the article. http://ilovefreeenergy.info/tag/gravity/

I would like to speculate that maybe black holes are, quite in contradiction to what we believe, highly supportive of life. Maybe it isn't the organic life as we know it, but something far more evolved and complex that we can't even imagine. I guess this is in some way an extension of my speculations as a child that in fact the sun is made up of a large collective of consciousness. Some of my reasons for my thoughts include: - an abundance of available resources - complex organization - constant consumption of more resources - natural defenses against external predators - possibility of inter well communication, maybe even travel This is a very …

Yes, green energy should be used to its fullest where and when possible. But this artilcle and video are quite interesting and should make us wonder why it has taken 50 years to evaluate the pros and cons of using a nuclear process that seems much safer than uranium, to build the same power source? With advanced particle accellerators already on the drawing board, it should take only a short time to design the mechanics needed to incorporate such a new system, while possibly using parts of the old one? Will someone please explain to me why we haven't done so already? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-13040853

I've trudged along for almost 2 years now on this forum with a 5 year old mentality in science.. Reading is the one thing providing new questions to me. My latest Q: Is everything in the universe nothing more than energy waves? Having just found this particular item, I would like to share it. Perhaps you are already familiar with it and it is stale to you, but to me it is totally mysterious. I have no idea who wrote it, and only remotely understand what it means. But If you are into this type of thing please respond, or give me some different links to read or look at. These links are not the initial reference I was referring to, but they will have to do for now. http…

I was just wondering if anybody knew how to get a discussion going on a speculative theory? I have been working on one for a few years now and have been trying to break it, by looking at various experimental data, but everything I find just re-enforces the theory. I am quite happy for anybody to read it, but it is approximately 100 pages, although I have written a few short papers, if that is of help. In fact the reason I wrote the papers in the first place was to try and discuss my idea with lecturers at various universities, as well as seeing whether journals would publish them. However I’m currently having no luck. Therefore any comments and suggestions w…

An alternative interpretation of the consequences of Special Relativity Does Time exist in any real sense? There is no direct evidence that time is actually part of the fabric of the universe. It is probable that human beings dreamt up the notion of time as a convenient way of 2 or more people being in the same location to share a task. For example an agreement for 2 people to meet for a hunt at sunrise on the bank of a river next to a large rock is in effect a synchronisation of the event of sunrise with 2 people and a unique geographical point on the planet. The human notion of time serves the purpose of accurately synchronising events for a species that owes m…

When a black hole sucks something up and an object crosses the event horizon, the event horizon is temporarily deformed bear that point where it crossed, until the matter reaches the center. This notion is important because it says that the shape of the black hole in a way mimics that of the shape of the internal structure. Since a black hole on it's own is at least a sphere, the singularity must be at least sphere in order to warp space time to creat a sphere. But, the warping of space is a little more complex than that, the warping of space mimics a conical structure as well, however it is a cone from every side, so the internal structure must also be infinitely cone-li…

Ive posted to many forums even, then i get replies or emails saying thats not possible,,or that im faking it and so on. And I think to myself,,hey these people are either trying to hide the truth,,or there igits. And yes I mean that in the worst possible way,,why? Because I am an igit. So what does that tell ya. Anyway ok sorry about that, just got an email and well.. I mean its not like I said oh give me money or I wont tell you how its done. Sure I have a donate link,,every bit helps further other project. But I tell exactly how its done, how to run things on water. I made videos on youtube showing how. I even have a live cam that runs 24/7 now showing different things …

Article here http://www.telegraph...-new-study.html The article is garbled nonsense but wind farms do cause warming because they slow down the circulating air which cools the earth. That is obvious they take energy from the cooling currents and slow them so they cool the earth less. Simples. Again the article is bad science which is right and wrong at random much like a monkey typing like this:- doejd uhf erfooireo fkler to e e dhwed the lwjrjwer werewjf r ehre ohlljhrere jflsjdfjs fis cfdokkfdp is wejf er;fon tree frhtg rtg t r car ijto;j;ej;t I expect the usually thumbs down but you can deny the truth but it will be true nonetheless

Hello, John D. Norton (1993). General covariance and the foundations of general relativity: eight decades of dispute, Rep. Prog. Phys., 56, pp. 794, pp. 835-7. "...the question of precisely what Einstein discovered remains unanswered, for we have no consensus over the exact nature of the theory's fondations. Is this the theory that extends the relativity of motion from inertial motion to accelerated motion, as Einstein contended ? Or is it just a theory that treats gravitation geometrically in the spacetime setting ? ... Of special importance for our purposes is that each frame of reference has a definite state of motion at each event of spacetime" My document pr…

The Last Days of Living in a 3-dimensional Universe I write this speech on the last day of living in a 3d world. Tomorrow, I will post the proof of a fourth spatial dimension in the form of a science rap video experiment. The video/written report will introduce a 4D calculator I named the Universal Grid. It will be an upgrade to the Cartesian 3-space graph which will allow for hyper-dimensional graphing and visualization. It's been almost 7 years since I've made the discovery, and as a layman, I have no other avenue whereas I can publish this historical discovery. So I come to the sites where scientific minds casually meet and in your hands I leave this information. …

How do we work out the amount of matter inferred by the light we see in the universe? How do we work out the amount of matter from the light? The little I remember about spectroscopy was that you could find the amount of stuff by the intensity of absorption bands-but that was small samples in equilibrium. Looking in any direction into space gasses are at different temperatures so we`ve got emission bands superimposed on absorption bands and vice-versa. So surely using spectroscopy we`re only looking at the difference between emission and absorption and there isn`t a way of determining the amounts of material spectroscopically. So is there another way of finding the amou…
