Speculations Forum Rules

The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:

  1. Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
  2. Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
  3. Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.

The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

  1. I'm sure enough of you here have seen James Cameron's Avatar, and remember that a big plot point in the film is Jake Sully being transferred from his original body to that of a Na'avi. That sort of thing has me thinking: Could human beings one day get a surgery that fully changes their species? Yes, it does sound a little far-fetched for today's genetic scientists, but in the distant future it could be possible, but also quite dangerous. I think something like this could be beneficial to those who are terminally ill or have organ failure, so they could get their full consciousness transferred into a new body, maybe even of a different species. Then there's the…

  2. Hi all, I'm a layman when it comes to science but I do want to learn more. I wanted to know if humans were to evolve wings (for whatever reason), how long would the wings be? What changes will come in their body? Say the wings were to evolve angel-like... would that be possible? And probably my most important question, how long (years) would it take for them to evolve those wings, if the process started now? 100,000? 200,000 years? Sorry if this question has been asked before.

  3. I have been thinking recently about electrons and electromagnetic wave and have come up with the following idea. I was just wondering what you good people thought about it. (I know the information is presented in quite a technical way, but I tend to find that helps me to see any problems there maybe with the idea). Introduction ========= Both electrons (or positrons) and electromagnetic waves have always been thought of as separate entities, i.e. as particles and waves respectively. However it has been experimentally shown that both of these entities can display both particle and wave like behaviour. Moreover, electron-positron annihilations produce only ele…

From : http://empiricalchurch.org/theory/ The following image was draw by my own hand, being Mosheh, and represents, as well as I am able, a description of the theory. My proposals are based around the idea of a natural progressive dimensional pattern of formation for our universe as space and time and matter. This image shows a potential pattern for consideration, which suggests 16 dimensions, while in theory we may consider and discuss potentially upto 28 dimensions. Below is illustrated a simple natural progressive rise pattern for dimensional motions and transitions of state on a spatial ether, as a transindental fluid, which condescends to obey certain na…

  5. Is the universe governed by forces or energy? Could the most fundamental particles have fixed negative potential energies so that they always exist in some kind of bound state? e=1/r1 - 1/r2 + 1/r3 - 1/r4... = constant (<0)(odd= 'attractive' even='repulsive') If this was so,there would be most probable configurations in which particles were separated by certain distances. For two 'attracting' particles moving further apart, other particles would have to compensate by moving closer to them into less probable configurations. Moving between states of differing probabilities would appear to us as a force and for human beings to reach lower probability states-say a …

A few days prior to Christmas of this year, 2012; something of cataclismic proportion is supposed to happen concerning earths gravity. Supposedly "it", gravity will be reversed and everything will be cast into an eternal void. "WOW"! That scares hell to me since I'm going to be eighty come Dec.11. I have read tons of material on the subjest but am totally in the dark about it. Could someone please be informative? The below link is about all that I have to go on. 7. So atom bombs and nuclear reactors release a lot of energy, but it seems like it would be more convenient if something could store that energy. Is there some way that energy could be mechanically used to compress matter and create degenerate matter? Or would you have to constantly use massive amounts of energy to keep matter stored like that? Because if the surface of a neutron star moves even 1 milimeter, it releases a gamma ray burst, which within our vicinity would be powerful enough to sterilize Earth, not that we could generate anything on Earth that powerful, but it seems like degenerate matter can store massive amounts of energy in a small space. Now that I th…

  8. Hi: I currently daydream of a hypothetical food product. This product is vegan-friendly and has all the vegetables, fruits, herbs, algae, mushrooms, seaweed, and other non-animal organisms that are necessary/beneficial for human health. It also contains beneficial and essential microbes [such as probiotics and the Red Star T-6635+ yeast which is a vegan-friendly source of B12]. All the aforementioned organisms are in amounts and proportions optimum for human health. This product is completely organic and free of any pesticides, synthetic ethylene and other man-made substances that compromise the heath of foods and their human consumers. In addition, no organisms …

Everything around us is evolving. Something faster, something slower and something by jump. For example the mankind understanding of the Universe – the deck on the turtle back in the past. Nowadays we can understand it like a package of different theories understood by the biggest brains of the present days. Or are they just doing so? The present is not the matter of easy understanding for the every day man, but the future will bring the change, because it’s estimated to have one and only Theory taking the Universe as one whole unit. But is the mankind prepared for such Theory? Based on my experience I can say: it is not! But I would like to change this fact by the alt…

Elephant: The First Primate? April 16, 2012 Humans and elephants appear to be evolutionary versions of the same species quite closely related on the family tree. Take another look and consider that humans evolved from elephant ancestors. Our big brother is still with us today. Note the opposable thumbs. Despite their large size elephants are otherwise just like ourselves and our skeletons are basically the same. The hands of the elephant are just like ours complete with opposable thumbs. Gomphotherium sp., early elephant ancestor [3.6 - 13.6 mya] still had enamel on its incisors/tusks which might be an indicator of when our two species d…

  12. What would be the fate or the future of our universe? Will it expand to infinity? Or stop expanding or start to contract? My thoughts joining space time, expanding universe and black holes led me to think of a new idea about the future of the universe. Let me explain it. Lets start with space time. Albert Einstein's theory explains to consider about a fabric like a trampoline as space time. And any body with mass would create a curve in this fabric which any other body near to it is attracted to it like a whirlpool. And black holes are the remnants of giant stars which is collapsed to a point because of excessive gravity. So a black hole in this space time would cre…

In this world of difficult times, where we struggle for answers to where our future may lie, myself I have looked within the rainbows to find answers that cannot be found elsewhere, and to this I have come across some strange and wondrous findings, that I feel compelled to share with like minded people who are like me, are interested enough in searching for answers that we dont yet have. Look I have some data that I hope you find interesting, if not perplexing, and its a little revolutionary, as it steps back in time to some, findings made by others that when I recheck these findings I find a different result, as to why, well this is part of the complexity, for if …

  16. Science may not know size of anything around us, do to some un-known dimensionless unit called the fine structure constant. http://en.wikipedia....ucture_constant From what I understand it is a dimensionless unit that somehow allows scientist to be able to distinguish multiple copies of fine color spectra used in Quantum Electro Dynamics among other theoretical models. I also understand it describes the forces of electro magnetism, if this is so and I assume it is coupled with the fact that electrons are virtually copies of each other, then I think it is legal to question the science community as to why even use the fine structure constant in the first place?…

  18. Hello all, We already had discussion about Stephen M Phillips, who claims to find correlation between superstring theory, kaballah and theosophy. You know my deep dislike about the notion of "shadow matter" and "subtle bodies",especially where 2 goes together. This is what Phillips try to reconcile. The reason I opened the new thread is that I don't want to put your attention to WHOLE article(which was the point of previous article).I'll post just one piece of the article, that bothers me right now,and then will post how I try to deal with it,hoping for your help. So,please, don't read the whole article, read only the part 6 is named "The UPA as a 11-brane". http://www.smphillip…

I saw a dream yesterday in which a very ordinary indian civilian goes to a shop of computers. He then sees that no one is near him watching. Then he with his mind power gets a internet access inside his mind. He has the option of accessing any internet mail account and even its secret password through other minds that he perhaps surveys. He then opens a email account and without touching starts open a printer in his shop as if it were connected with his mind internet email access which he has opened like infra red. Then he prints the email he likes on the page thru printer. And even deleted the email. Is this internet is all about testing mind's power from usa to india?

I just read the word "prepper" used in my newspaper for people prepairing for travel. The growth of "doomsday prepping" has introduced a new word into our language. (Perhaps you've seen the "prepping" series on the National Gegraphic TV Channel). What is your theory as to why so many people who look ahead see no hope? Is it justified? If you think it has always been this way and that its just a media fling, try listing all the world problems that are not being effectively dealt with . . . advertising link to blog removed

  22. It is seldom questioned that all the components of the universe remain inperfect relativity to each other at all times. Understanding the finer pointsof this relatively is open to hot debate, but few suggest that the nature ofthe universe is inherently chaotic and unpredictable. This is reasonable asscientists have been able to ascertain 'laws' and make 'predictions' regarding avast plethora of observable phenomena over the centuries and so we feel confidentthat all as yet unexplained issues will one day be solved. My question is how is the consistency and synchronization of the universemaintained? I have come up with three possible answers to this question 1. Al…

According to the Law of Bio-Complexity, life evolves increasing complexity (forward in time). Ergo, early earth life was simpler (life devolves to decreasing complexity backwards in time). Now, the most complex non-biological (organic, carbon-based) chemistry, occurs in "bio-tars", black-brown organic goos, composed of carbonaceous compounds constantly chemically reacting (McFadden. Quantum Evolution). Given sufficient quantities of "goo", and sufficient time to chemically react, bio-tars become "Belsteins" (to quote Prof. Urey), i.e. they come to contain essentially every conceivable organic chemical (even if in trace amounts), indiscriminately interacting, via every …

Dear Sir, As I am unqualified, I am urgently looking for a cosmologist or theoretical physist who can help me with flaws in my Big Bang alternate, so it can be published on arxiv.com. It is based on the premise that all energy wants to entropize. All the forces and matter are simply energy trying to revert to their original "at rest" state [medium].This medium, still outside our universe, is a sea of energy in the form of straight string at absolute zero with a quiver of waves moving through it. It is best described as a super BEC [bohr Einstein condensate having infinite quanta in the same space.] or as Einstein described the space matter density at the centre of a bl…
