I came across what seems like a nice, biology inclusive custom dictionary for MS Word today and thought I'd share, since it's a useful tool to have for people who dislike red, squiggly lines. I have another one that I use for chemistry as well, which was linked in another thread here. If anyone has any other useful tools like this for writing in biology, I'd love to hear about them, as I am currently in the process of writing my first research article since moving into the field(s) of microbiology / genetics.

how do we intergrate them? I support transgender rights, but there are serious issues with former men entering women's sports. Mike Tyson would be an example. Would it be possible to have another way to determine who plays what sport? So instead of male and female, base it on muscle ratio or testosterone levels? Do we need to do anything at all?

First and foremost let me start off by saying I hope this is in the right category and if it isn't I'm seriously sorry and feel free to move it. As a woman who's planning a family sometime in the future, I've been a member of a forum designed around women who are trying to get pregnant, pregnant, and those who have lost a pregnancy. Sadly I fall into the latter category. Another member who's now striking out on the road to getting pregnant made a post yesterday that had me scratching my head. The claim was that if a woman was to use baking soda in her vagina that it would balance out the natural ph and make it a much more hospitable environment for sperm to survive an…

Note, I'm putting this in the biology forum because there is no "sexology" forum. Also, I'm using this site (a science site) because I am not just looking for the reasons that you, personally, like lesbians, but rather, the scientific reason why they're so popular on a general level. Think about it: Why do men enjoy homosexual porn of the opposite sex, but that same fetish is not near as widespread among women? How, exactly, does testosterone accomplish one thing, but estrogen does not accomplish the exact opposite? Most guys give the reason of "twice the fun" for why they like lesbians, but that logic does not work with women liking gay men. It is the job …

I once saw this Discovery Channel documentary about guillotines. There was a story about 2 scientists who wanted to know how long one can live without a head. One scientist had his head sliced off by a guillotine and the other watched his head. The head-less scientist was supposed to keep on blinking to let the other time how long he was still alive. Supposedly, he was alive for 15 or so seconds. So how do people and animals live without their head for a certain amount of time. I heard that cockroaches can live without their heads for a week.

I've heard that Visine is applicable as a colorless, tasteless poison. I've also heard that this is simply an urban legend. I'm not about to test this one myself but if anyone knows for sure, please let me know. I am curious to see if CSI used an urban legend.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.unilad.co.uk/life/straight-people-dont-exist-finds-new-study/amp/ Recent studies show that the eyes dilate when people watch male and female porn in all men and women, regardless of their orientation, which indicates sexual arousal. It turns out all the bisexuals. But how are studies that say that sexual orientation is not a choice; Many factors influence sexual orientation, such as: genes, hormones, culture. Sexual orientation is very stable and is unlikely to change. Statistics say 90% of the heterosexual population. How can this be understood?

Has there ever been a study to confirm this? It seems similar to the ''nocebo'' effect. Your thoughts? ''There are a lot of stories floating around out there about people who experienced an injury in their dreams and then found real, physical evidence of the wound on their bodies once they awoke. For instance, some people have claimed to have been caught in a fire in their dreams and then woke up to find burn marks on their skin. Other common stories involve people being attacked during their dreams and then waking up to find scratch marks somewhere on their bodies. However, most of these stories are found in chat rooms or message boards, so it’s hard to corroborate if…

I heard there was a statistic saying that 1 in 20 individuals have an extra pair of ribs or more. I'm wondering whether anybody knows why different people have different numbers of ribs? Could this be because of mutations (e.g. from exposures to radioactivity, excessive mobile phone use etc) through a changed more modern way of living? Why do some people have extra ribs?

Not sure if this belongs here but anyways..... Ive heard that pre-ejaculate fluid, or pre cum, can contain sperm and that you can impregnate a women by this means. Ive also heard that it doesnt, which is the one i believe, because it comes from a gland just at the base of the penis, but that this fluid can pick up and carry any sperm left in the urethra after a previous ejaculation. Though this seems to me that unless you have unprotected sex right after you just had sex then the sperm would be inert, not encouraging or discouraging unprotected sex by any means thats your personal decision. But i would like to see if anyone out there has a link or some such proof that …

Ok this seems like a simple question but when I checked I get so confused. Please use these terms to answer my question. 1 DNA molecule- This means a double helix (2 strands) 1 DNA strand- This means when you break the double helix and one separate strand I thought one chromatid contain 1 DNA strand and 2 chromatids make a chromosome and 1 DNA molecule. So in a diploid cell you have 46 DNA molecules or 92 strands. Is this wrong? EDIT: Oh wait I know why I don't understand this. Chromatid also contains a DNA molecule right. When the cell is replicating each chromosome has 2 dna molecules and when it is not it only has one. So when the cell is not re…

what would be some sources or error in a potato lab where each patoto slice (3 cm in length) is put into a test tube with different concetrations of water for example : 100 % , 99.5 % , 99 % , 98.5 % , 98 % are all concentrations of water in which a potato slice was put in and left for 24 hours in order to determine if the overall mass has gone down or increased. Someone please give some ideas on this. Thank You

This is a question that has puzzled me for some time. It is that on land in every part of the world where there is abundant water and sunlight, there is vegetation everywhere (rainforests typically). But on the oceans in the same parts of the world (tropical and equatorial regions) there is typically very little, if any, floating seaweed. Given that floating seaweed is able to live in salt water, has access to abundant amounts of water (obviously), and has the same access to the air to support photosynthesis, why hasn't floating seaweed grown to the same extent as the plants on land? Now, there is one type of seaweed that does seem to accumulate - Sargassum. But…

This is kind of embarrassing but I swear my body odor has changed since meeting and being married to my wife. It smells like her body odor which is 'unique', or was, and so thats my question: Is body odor, or the bacteria that die and produce b.o., contagious/transmittable? Or is it probably something else causing this like the food we are eating? Also, I want my old B.O. back...any suggestions? I've tried vinegar under the arms, bleach solution, H202, a little bit of athletes foot spray(!), anything to kill off this strain so my old strain can prosper again. Nothing seems to work. Perhaps biotech is working on new, delicious smelling bacteria to in…
