Okay I do what you ask because it off topic for that thread. Can you other here define what is science, bad science, junk science and pseudoscience. What makes good science and what makes bad science? To my understanding I always thought bad science or junk science did not have any science backing like saying you can walk on water, earth has no center mass or time travel.

I have just been watching a documentary on BBC2 "The Search for a New Earth" http://www.tvguide.co.uk/detail/2790044/131126240/the-search-for-a-new-earth about the possibilities of sending a manned mission to Alpha Centauri ( can I say "don't laugh" ?) Along with Hawkin's warnings that many of us are no doubt familiar (in my case sympathetically so) with, the subjects of possible suitable destinations and methods of transport were addressed. I was left dissatisfied since ,although it appears technically possible to cut the time of journey to Alpha Centauri and its posited Goldolocks zone planet (all 4 light years d…

The critical issue everyone seems to miss is that the meaning of the phrase "without making presumptions". Apparently it is something no one on this forum seems to comprehend. I am opening this thread because it seems that responses to my earlier post, "Understanding Reality", have totally degenerated to into silly meaningless garbage without any sign of thought at all. If no one here is capable of comprehending what I am saying I will stop posting my thoughts. Please consider the following facts very carefully! Coming up with an explanation of anything requires comprehension of a language first. If there are readers who believe that is not a fac…

In antiquity the only democratic City-State was Greece. Great thinkers and sages were born in Greece with their ideals of beauty, philosophy, science and freedom (ancient Egypt had much influence over Greece with its initiatory knowledge). The other cities were governed by dictators, emperors, kings and tyrants. Today, with all of democratic Europe (a movement initiated by the French Revolution), which has influenced all the Americas, the Greek ideal of democracy reappears. But there are still undemocratic countries … One day, the entire world will be democratic … Democracy, a political ideal? Yes.

Cryoprotectant found in some Insects and Amphibians to survive the deep freeze!! In the news say Insects and Amphibians survive the deep freeze by Cryoprotectant!! They say scientist are looking into Cryoprotectant as holy grail of Cryopreservation turning Cryopreservation science fiction into reality. Where one of major problems with Cryopreservation today that make it science fiction is when you freeze the human body you get ice crystals that damage cells, tissues, organs, brain cells and DNA. So the body is very damage and not preserved in the state was before freezing. Where despite billions dollars put into Cryopreservation to date they have not found the…

Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States for remembering the people who died while serving in the country's armed forces. Many people visit cemeteries and memorials, particularly to honor those who have died in military service. Many volunteers place an American flag on each grave in national cemeteries. In the second great war, american soldiers sacrificed themselves, even America occupies a deserved position in the world. In other wars, like the Vietnam, they died in vain. Per title of topic, anyone pursuing or has a Ph.D. in the field? Asking to learn more about experiences, research topics, and to hopefully make connections for potential collaborations in the future. Pretty much a "tell-me-anything" sort of question.

Please help answer this for me. I realize this is based on anecdotal experience, but I could not even find a relation on Google. AskScience on reddit turned me away because they claimed that could not be discussed there due to "anecdotal experience". It is to my understanding that Science requires openness to flourish. I wasn't sure which category of Science this went into, so if it needs to be moved, feel free to mods. Last night I was watching one of my favorite shows, Westworld. I noticed that when I would look directly at the actor's faces, and the scene would switch abruptly, the image of their face would lose color for a brief moment. At first, I thought this …

Let’s start with a primer to some of the techniques used to maintain an optimal frame rate when displaying computer game graphics. Games consoles such as the PS4, Xbox One and PC aren’t powerful enough to render a whole city in 3D. Instead, they only render what’s currently onscreen. Furthermore, only the camera facing sides of objects are rendered. The sides you can’t see only exist as calculations without any substance, ready to be rendered as your character moves through the game. This process is called hidden surface removal. Sometimes, objects are removed from view completely, like if a car drives past a trash can, there’s no need for the trash can to be rendered whi…

After the Cold War, what is the U.S. role on the planet? World police? A single country can not do that. The U.S. depend of other countries economically (globalization). Defender of freedom and democracy? It will be? Or defender of the economic interests of the United States. And China that should lead the East, but before China needs to be democratic. What is the U.S. role in the world? The U.S. is just one more.

There is not a day that goes by with out the media going on and on about going to the moon or mars!!! Well it serious not going to solve problems of colonization of the moon or mars. It not going to solve overpopulation problem. It not some thing the middle class can have enough money on one way ticket to the moon or mars. Even the upper class will not have the money for a one way ticket to the moon or mars. So it not going to solve the overpopulation problem. What is with the government and private sector pushing this trip to the moon or mars in 10 to 15 years. When there is no spacecraft that cost effective? Any spacecraft they have and in the research …

Hi All, I just want to ask if anyone ever tried using commercial link removed as an alternative meds? I have read many articles about medical marijuana and how it can help you in terms of chronic pain, glaucoma, eating disorder/anorexia, anxiety disorders and panic attacks, inflammation, even cancer and a lot more. Cbd and thc are also new to me and I don't even smoke. If this is true I cant find any solid conclusive evidence that speaks to its efficacy. Any personal experience or testimonial would be highly appreciated. Thanks

About 100,000 years ago the conditions of the planet were more rude. The earthly environment was not like today. There were beasts, natural traps like precipices etc. The man needed to hunt, search for water and live in caves. Obviously, there were no doctors, drugs etc. So, the men needed to stay together if no would die early. There were no wars or clan fights. Only when the first civilizations emerged was that started the wars. Humanity was more united.

My friend has this theory that transgender people can normalize their gender by taking hormones of their assigned gender. I have told him why it is untrue but he wouldn't believe it because he thinks psychology is soft science and he has his own theory on why. And he speculates that taking hormones for their assigned gender is already happening but just not reported. This might sound absurd but can anyone offer a clear explanation on why he is wrong? I can't provide one that is satisfying for him.

Working on a review article on a plane today, I discovered that an existing review published in 2011 contains at least two substantial paragraphs copied almost verbatim from another paper by another group that I happened to have just finished reading. There is probably more, based on a cursory glance of other sections. The review in question is a very well-cited review in a high impact factor journal, and written rather surprisingly (to me, at least) by a group at Pfizer. Having never been in this situation before, I am unsure of what the usual course of action is (especially since it's a review, and partly on a topic I am covering)? If nothing else, I assume there …

in my everlasting arguments with a creationist, i thought of something that i wonder and cant find anything using google, so want to ask here. we all know about fossils of dinosaurs ect, but how about fossils of the animals we have now? for example, have we found fossils of kangaroos, koalas, bears, possums, lion beaver elephant, exactly or almost the same as they are today? if there are none, wouldnt that mean creationists have a hell of a lot of explaining to do to have a completely different set of animals now to millions of years ago? if anyone knows either way, please provide link if possible.

The initiatory circles suggest the construction of the great pyramids. The pyramids reveal the most extraordinary knowledge of those scholars. Each measure of the pyramids has its symbolic expression, relative to the cosmogonic system of the planet and its position in the solar system: the ideal meridian, the distance between the Sun and the Earth, the longitude traversed by the Earth over its orbit in the space of a day, the precession of the equinoxes, and many other scientific achievements of initiatory circles. I would like to see some responses on this topic....it seems most people assume their thoughts and emotions and don't know that they can actually change them on command once they learn it is possible. But some people are not capable of this. Do you understand what awareness and direction of thought is? Would be interesting to see what you think it is....without Googling it. Thanks A wise man seeks wisdom....a fool thinks he knows enough

The story before the story The earliest fossils of hominids date from, more or less, 4 million years. These hominids spread across the globe. With the genetic variation and influence of environment various species appeared. Which explains the Neanderthal man, that is human like us, our cousin in evolution. Some groups isolated themselves like what happened in Australia. These hominids were to Europe, Middle East, Asia and Oceania where Lemuria existed that was flooded by the Oceans, and to Atlantis that remained, according to Plato, after the Strait of Gibraltar. After homo sapiens, more or less there are 20,000 years, appeared on Earth the white races (Arians), Egy…

Hello first, i am not sciencist. I am interested from some time of one phenomenon, or let say two, but i feel they are connected. I can not find any information about this. First is a case of a lil bit closed eye, and second is the phenomenon of replacing of letters. In example rettels instead of letters.

I have been an active member on three science forums....this one, one that is now defunct, and another that I left on my own accord, due to the lack of scientific discipline. On all those forums reference sometimes is made about "pop science", sometimes in less then complimentary ways. As a lay person, now a retired Maintenance Fitter and Machinist, I was always interested in space and astronomy....I followed the USSR and USA NASA cold war space race religiously, and still remember as a ten year old, going outside at night and watching Sputnik cross the celestial sphere. I watched all the Moon shots and three programs that enabled man to set foot on the Moon..... Late…
