  1. Should I consider price first or the experience of the company?

  2. Hi, I want to run an experiment and to do so I need to create something that will function as a semi-permeable membrane. It must let water through but not oil. I’ve looked about a lot but all options seem excessively expensive. If anyone knows a cheap option, or a way to build something that would work it would be much appreciated. Thanks

https://phys.org/news/2019-06-physics-life-d-universe.html Researcher shows physics suggests life could exist in a 2-D universe by Bob Yirka , Phys.org James Scargill, a physicist at the University of California, has written a paper reporting that the laws of physics allow for the existence of a life-supporting two-dimensional universe. MIT's Technology Review has reviewed the paper and found that the work does show that such a 2+1 universe could exist. Because we live in three-dimensions, it is difficult for us to envision a universe in which the third dimension does not exist—or one in which there is a fourth or fifth dimension. But philosophers and …

  4. I need some direction with research I want to do. For background, I am a junior in high school and part of a program from which I got two publications into the NCBI for isolating proteins from a plant called duckweed and doing some rudimentary bioinformatic analysis on it. I also had the chance to 3-D print the protein with its important domains/ligands highlighted. I want to take what I have (a DNA sequence and extensive knowledge of the structure) to make a claim and write a full fledged research paper. Without further lab experiments, I am not sure about what direction I can take what I have to write a proper research paper. Any tips/advice would be appreciated. Also I…

  7. The director of my masters course implied that I should choose my research project (thesis) based on how quickly I want my name in a journal. It got me thinking about the benefits of having a publication on your CV so early in your career - and if there really are any? Do prospective employers actually look favourably upon candidates who have a publication history? Would you be 'worse off' on the job market if you graduated your masters without a publication - especially if others on your course DID graduate with one? Or is publication history mostly only relevant if you want to continue in academia? Is choosing a research area based on how quickly/easily it can get pubis…

Is it possible to study on your own and apply to write an exam only in the university. For example I'm studying quantum mechanics equivalent to the quantum mechanics module in a university and then I apply to write exam for quantum mechanics instead of sitting the whole semester studying the course, is it possible to just write an exam and get the credit.

Recently a super massive black hole has discovered by the scientists of the event horizon telescope . The name of the back hole is Messier 87. A black hole usually absorbs the light so we can't see it. But it has an event horizon which we can see. It's theory is given by Stephen Hawkings. We can see a black hole and it's event horizon by "Hawkings radiation". More about "Hawkings radiation" go to https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawking_radiation&ved=2ahUKEwj0j--d9tvhAhWaXSsKHQwbDXsQFjAOegQICRAu&usg=AOvVaw1JubLngqjOiptxbOgCJTJ-

Hello Everyone! I'm new to the forum and thought I should introduce myself. I'm in Denver Colorado and majoring in Biology/Botany. I will be starting my junior year in Fall 2019. I joined the forum hoping to get some more information, network a little, and learn about the industry. My first goal is to redo my resume as I was a service tech prior to going to school. Does anyone have any suggestions or industry preferred templates? I know everyone will have an opinion but I should start somewhere. Cheers, Andrew

  17. Hello, I have my nephews this weekend and I am doing a bit of research before they get here because I would like to be able to guide them through a science experiment that they’ve been asking me to help them with for ages. The experiement is the reaction that occurs when Aluminum is exposed to mercury. They are wanting to recreate the exact reaction they saw on YouTube. I’ve got all the materials to do it (in theory) and luckily I decided to conduct a test run before they arrived. My problem is I can’t get the reaction to start at all. I’ve tried to contacting the person that made the video but I haven’t heard back yet. 1.) Here is…

Hello, I will be attending college soon and wanted to ask someone preferably in one of these fields, which do I choose? Ultimately I want to end up in aerospace engineering, however I have heard this can be very limiting to fresh college graduates as a position in aerospace may not be available. At the same time, if the position should be available, would it give a pretty big edge over a Mech E major? What about dual majors or certificates offered by some colleges? On a side note, what are the best colleges for engineering currently?

  19. So I'll be starting my undergraduate studies soon on computer sciences. Know any good e-books for me? Keep in mind that I have no previous knowledge on computers or anything(Then why did I take computers xD)

Carbon can make 4 covalent bonds, so it makes sense for it to make carbon-dioxide with 2-2 covalent bonds. But sulfur can only make 2 covalent bonds, and yet in sulfur-dioxide the sulfur connects to the oxygens with 2-2 covalent bonds. Can someone whose more clever than me explain this please? Also, sorry for my bad english, I am hungarian.

Can you please explain non-linear evaporation to me. I have not studied physics and it was a very long time ago that I learned chemistry and maths at school. So please explain it to someone with no prior knowledge of physics. A small glass tube is filled with the liquid methyl benzoate. The radius along the glass tube appears constant. The glass tube is housed in a plastic case with metal backing, and fixed to a radiator. When turned on the radiator has hot water flowing through it so as to warm up a room in winter. The idea is that the extent of evaporation in the glass tube shows the heat consumption and so used to apportion heating costs to individual users…
