hi! my name is Na. i really want to have a friend who is interested in science. i'm not a native english speaker so sorry for my bad grammar;) the reason i'm interested in science is that i watch movies and science documentaries a lot! i'm a biomedical science student but i like to link medical science to other science subjects. it's interesting to see how different subjects can be related to each other! now you know i come here to find science friends here and if you're like me then that's great! since my old friends all hate science so i don't have friends whom i can talk to. want to text via skype or LINE if possible;)

As we all know, US higher education is ridiculously expensive, with many students having $150,000 in debts after graduation. How would you fix it and should Americans try to?

I have an idea for a movie where the private prison industry are the antagonists. The bad guy would be a typical evil narcissist CEO. It would be set in a future America where the private prison industry routinely sets people up for crimes they didn't commit and uses their financial resources to bribe the courts. African Americans and other individuals considered undesirable would be overwhelmingly targeted. This is used as a means to oppress those populations and keep them impoverished. The protagonist would be a brave courageous secret agent individual with incorruptible values and unbeatable combat skills. He always does the right thing and beats everybody …

As many of you know, it was the case that I was going to be a daddy. Well, that time has come! It's time to show off your kids. My son is now two days old. He was born on September 8 at 4:48pm and he weighs in at 1lb 13oz. He made it to one day before 28 weeks before he had to come out. If you've got kids, how many do you have? Any advice/tips/tricks?

Maybe this will finally be the impetus for campaign finance reform. I won't hold my breath on that, but this will be interesting to see how it plays out.

I am very curious about the following issues. In which countries in the World Scopus listed publications are highly appreciated and well-paid by institutions and, probably, higher education councils? How much do they pay for such publications?

It became apparent to me that I have already accumulated a negative reputation rating on this site but I have backed up every single claim I've made with data or a retort admitting my error, how is this so? It makes me laugh to see the same people gallivant around this site like they are some scientific authority, diminishing every post they possibly can by flexing their knowledge muscle through sarcasm and ignorance of the experience someone may or may not be having. For instance, a topic was started regarding ET life and the possibility that we are being observed and right away someone swooped in and basically said "whats the point in asking this question if it all b…

Could someone reccomend specific resources (literature etc.) as on how to create complex organizations (a company, a political party, a religious organization... whatever) from scratch and successfully manage it? It amuses me how some people have such an organizational skill that they start with a small company and turn it into a multinational corporation with branches, sub-branches and a myriad of other institutions. For me just the amount fo bureaucracy involved would be a nightmare.

What is the intended meaning for 'processed foods' from the point of view of a food manufacturing factory and from the point of view of dietists/nutritionists, and perception from the general public ? Is boiling/frying something processing ? Is washing/chopping something processing ? Is condimenting processing ? Is refrigerating/freezing something processing ? Is packing/transporting something processing ? What are not 'processed' foods ? An unwashed apple picked from a tree ? Raw chicken meat, with feathers and all ? Sea salt picked from a dry brine pond ? Creek/well water ?

My story, the first three parts. Theo already has a theory on the mind of this serial killer and his friend Alice Meadows (and her team) is more than happy to embrace the help except for her boss; but being able to put this aside, there are other consequences working in the difficult field of criminal profiling as Theo will find out. 1 And so it was, the first day of his lec…

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2013-12-21/what-do-americans-believe-spoiler-alert-evolution-and-ghosts-are-neck-and-neck Hi everyone, According to the Harris poll 42% of Americans believe in ghosts, 36% believe in creationism and UFOs, 29% believe in astrology, 26% believe in witches and 24% believe in reincarnation. Does this sound right? Why do so many Americans believe in these silly things? ~Being an Australian I was quite shocked by these alarming statistics!

Hello people, this is my first post to your forum and as a little bit new to the science world , i would like to ask you a question : How is it to be a scientist(Physicist,Mech.Engineer,Chemist etc.)? The only example of a scientist's life that i have seen is The Big Bang Theory... Of course i am aware that it makes a little bit fun of scientist showing them as people that dont have that good of social skills and that this is not obviously true, but are all the other aspects real? For example , their free time-time for hobbys , their financial situation , their work place , their earnings? P.S I am asking all these because i am 16 years old and i want to become a scie…

Hi there, I have no idea what background would be required to know the answer to this question (although I am sure it is not a science background) so I thought I would post it here in the "other topics". What sort of person would you consult if you were planning to create a new type of government official/department and needed to come up with a title for them/it? The people who draft laws (which create these new positions/departments) are Lawyers. As far as I can tell, they are not educated in historical terms used to describe government positions. As an example: Country A has a three tier court system: District Court; Court of Appeal; and Supreme Court. A…
