A subjective debate/discussion certainly but imo dogs win by a country mile! I must admit I have never had a cat, but do have good friends who do have them. Dogs are a man's best friend, they are a companion, they are a mate! I have had over my lifespan of 76 years, a Labrador, a German Shepard, and two Rotweillers, My last Rotty named Rocky lived until he was 13.5 years old...a pretty good age for that breed. He was unbelievable! I once spied a couple of Seven Day Adventists doing the rounds, coming down the street, and decided to put Rocky and the front porch, and told him to sit and stay. As they approached our gate and started to open, he stood up and gave one almight…

  2. Recently bought some 10 x 42 binoculars to have a little gaze around my neighbourhood and I already have a multimeter to test out voltage in my house and in batteries. What are some other fun not to pricey gadgets that are fun to have around? I was also thinking of getting some night vision goggles...

  3. Started by Airbrush,

I'm a big fan of the history of WW2. Recently I saw Fury for the second time and think it is a great movie and recommend it to anyone interested in WW2. There are a few problems I have with the film and wish it could be redone. The ending was wrong, along with a few other things. I became obsessed with this. So I set to formulate a plan for a disabled Sherman tank, and only 5 guys, to defend against an attack by 300 SS troops on the supply lines for a division of US troops. I became emotionally involved with my plan. I'm good at visualizing things. The mission was of great importance so you have to give your life for it if necessary. The movie could have bee…

I was thinking, if you really enjoy science and you want a science career that you might really enjoy, you could teach. All too often people who go into science careers get boring jobs. A good friend of mine whose really smart and whose got a doctorate in chemical engineering is working for a technology company where he's coating microchips. He makes really good money doing that but its just the same thing over and over again day in and day out, coating chips, so he is a bit bored with his job. I was thinking though, teaching can be a really fun job where you actually learn something every day because, after all, you learn the most from teaching. So I would think, teachin…

The attachement from the international libraries association is self explanatory. Although not specifically for scientific matters I thought it was particularly well presented and a good candidate as a sticky on this site.

Was just wondering why so many seem more aware of these in Europe. In some cases here one can receive a discount if using debit or cash, but largely limited to vending and fuel.

If you could, lets say you have been granted limited god status, and all you can do is bring back 4 extinct animals in large enough numbers to establish a breeding population, what would they be and why? Anomalocaris, because they are big and look delicious. Ichthyosaur, Because I'd like to see how they interact with dolphins. The smaller species. Liopleurodon, small species, because i'd like to see them interact with dolphins as well. Woolly Mammoth, because I hope they can genetically engineer one the size of a small pony so I can own one.

If you have extra belongings that you need to put somewhere, would you ask a friend, ask your parents, use a Commercial storage company, or just throw them out? I have heard storage companies are now being used extensively by the average household and businesses. Do you think this is a good idea? How safe is using a storage provider?

  14. So, I have written up something entitled "Technique in Discussion: Hypercubing." For what I recall, the user Genecks had relayed to a scienceforums.net user to not worry about his/her issue because Genecks was an authority on such; Genecks claimed to be an authority on such because Genecks beat hypercube in five seconds. I think that's the general idea of what happened in Genecks' post. I have not been able to use the search feature to find the relevant posts. Personally, based on my contracts "expertise," I do not think a valid contract occurred, be that Genecks were to need to remedy the user were something to go awry with the user's worries: Something like that. …

I am just an aspiring athlete who wants to play Ice Hockey and Track and Field for Team Japan. I have always loved Japan as a whole with passion. I must say that I have talent in both Ice Hockey and Running Sprints. I also happen to be a transgender woman with strong aspirations to raise a family in Japan and live the Beautiful Japanese Dream. I came to this forum to learn genetics and the anatomy of existence. However I’m not a bright student as I have both ADHD and Stargardt Disease. My preferred way of learning is through self education and coming here to ask questions. I can’t get degree of GED as I just don’t connect wi…

Does anyone have any idea what these are? I have a pair of them, made of brass (no jokes please!), about 1.5cm, 5/8" diameter. Each one comprises an upper and a lower half, which screw together. They look as if they might function in rather the same way as a pair of cufflinks, but obviously they are not cufflinks (too heavy, too cumbersome to screw together on a shirt cuff.) I wondered if they were weights for holding down a tablecloth outside, but you'd need to make holes in the corners for the threaded part to pass through. So that seems unlikely. They came from my parents' house, so probably something used half a century or more ago.

  18. On an oscillator the wave such as a HB displayed is tachyon condensate, under hydraulic compression, T.e (tachyon energy) also makes up part of the symbiotic, quark frequency harmonics. Have you ever thought about going to a recently discovered M-class planet? If you were to lead such a mission, what would be your concerns, considerations, objectives and reservations? What protocol would you put in place - - on approach - on establishing orbit - on landing - on first encounter with a local life-form ?

Something that came up in the cryptocurrency thread reminded me of this bit of trivia: In the days of the old west, people used the US dollar and the Spanish 8 Reale coin (they were "pieces of 8") interchangeably because they were basically the same size and made of silver, and that worked because the value was based on the amount of precious metal. They used to chop up the coins when lower denominations weren't readily available. In deference to the Spanish (presumably), it was into 8 bits (1 Reale each) so 25 cents was two bits. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_dollar (This makes clear that the Spanish dollar was used by a lot of folks, much like t…

  22. I recall back in the early 2010s society lost interest in space and sci fi. https://gizmodo.com/why-we-need-more-space-adventures-5837047 https://ricochet.com/226027/archives/the-death-of-the-space-opera/ I was just a young idealistic college student back then and most students seemed more interested in reality shows, materialism, and partying. I look back and find it appalling how vapid it was. Why did we lose interest in space? Why did society felt they had to choose between popularity and intelligence? Why did society stopped being encouraged to push themselves intellectually? Why not be …

  23. Bandits, thieves and criminals run the world. Good people that actually do good are killed off or they're experimented on without their consent or knowledge and the establishment inject fear for noble cause corruption, so why bother with life at all? You are a slave to both money and god and the only people that have true freedom are people in the middle east who can have cake and eat it too and rich white men and women. Men are definitely expendable and the only reason why they are being nice to you because they want your genetic material or your brain. I don't like playing this game of life - i didn't ask to be part of this and I definitely didn't construct this s…
