Saw this recently and thought it was excellent movie. Very interesting to understand more about Oppenheimer's life, worldview, political affiliations, the Manhattan project and all the physicists involved. Anyone else catch it?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNhlNSLQAFE Thought this was very entertaining as well as a trip back in time.(1964,I think) Did Feynman have a few lodgers in his head most of the time?

Anybody ever watch the old BBC show Connections hosted by James Burke? My cousin clued me in to it, and I find it utterly fascinating. It basically links various inventions throughout history that lead us to where we are today. Itβs freely available to stream on archive.org

Does anyone here ever try to follow the thread of their thoughts backward? If you start from now is it possible to go backwards in time through your thought processes and how long of a stretch can you manage? I sometimes try this ,normally when I am aware that I have forgotten something in my mind and, Jason like in the Minator's den I try to "retrace my steps". I would say 10 minutes might be my personal best.

Would this be fun and would it work? Suppose someone started a thread on any particular subject and the only participants in the ensuing discussion were ai chat robots using their particular software. There would be two or three or more participants and ,obviously after the first post one of them would post a first reply. There would need to be a rule that the post should be fairly short or ,to my mind it would be boring. And so on ,until maybe someone pulled the plug. Perhaps it would be interesting to see how the mistakes accumulated -a bit like a game of Chinese Whispers. Maybe this could be done with just the one chat robot if…

From 1:40 on, you can hear him give an unflattering description of Feynman, describing him as obsessed with generating anecdotes about himself. Now, at the moment, I'm reading Surely You're Joking, Mr Feynman and I came to the book having already heard these criticisms from MGM and I was looking for sign of these kind of character traits and while I thought I saw them in some of the early chapters (where he would describe these counterintuitive systems that he would come up with for doing this or that that other people couldn't appreciate), later on there were things that ran contrary to this image of an egomaniac obsessed with making myths about himself that MGM describe…

From repeated hints in posts, I understand that many members of SFN also participate in other online science forums. What's the point of it? Do mostly the same people discuss mostly the same questions on different websites? What would be a reason for me to do so?

Just a thread to openly discuss what you might consider strange. Whether that be personal experiences or stories you have heard about, inexplicable coincidences, spooky experiences etc... For instance, I have been reading a few novels (paper back fiction) just lately and within those novels some of the details used in the narratives are often based on real events or real places/agencies/people. I read 2 books related by author but unrelated by story line. Both are fictional stories, but feature real life details that I had not come across previously. The things I read in each book, one was a place and one was an agency. Both which I had never ever seen or …

I remember seeing a long long time ago on Youtube a video with Feynman that I think was a long interview recorded for TV, rather than a documentary, but it started with Feynman drawing a picture of his wife as she poses. I remember he comments on how pretty she is and she responds with "You always say that, Richard." Does anyone know what the title of the program was?

Hello. From the angle of the thread 'ribs' If the tires shown turn/slip going away from you, do the 'ribs' push some soil/mud towards the center of its path ? If it turns/slips towards you, do the 'ribs' push some soil/mud out of the tire path ?

Just funny. Reader's Digest has published an article entitled, 50 Science Trivia Questions People Always Get Wrong (With Answers) (rd.com). They could add a 51st question, "Is astrology a science?" According to their own first paragraph, the answer is, yes:

Regards. Some of you may have that stomach acid reflux, take the calcium bicarbonate tablets, or the pink stuff, or fancier reliefs. Next time, please, have a gulp of wine and come back with observations. I have tried some liquor (anise) too and worked. Bourbon, meeeh. Would like to see your reports. Thanks. π€

Ok so I started a business a while back however I have not really done anything with it physically. It is based on the idea of giving scientist, engineers, and artists the space and resources they would need in order to fully develop there ideas through fluishion. Like say if someone wanted to build a flying car they could do this here. I feel as if all I am lacking are people who are willing to work from there passions and not from there desires, however I am an extreme novice when it comes to trying to find these types of people along with fully setting up a business from scratch. What advice can you guys give to assist. Thank you.

Greetings. At the supermarket bakery, I used for years to buy raw frozen french bread dough and bake it at home at my convenience. It is the way they receive the dough from some supplier and they only bake with not much labor. Today, a grumpy supervisor decided to not sell me anymore the bars of hard frozen dough at the baked price by some invented or not corporate decision. I have to ask your expertise, on how to make it at home. Yes, frozen in dense bars form and keep until the baking craving day. Works by leaving it to thaw a few hours and rises before putting it in the oven. Any expert around ?

Speaking of bull π . The Protected Designation of Origin is nothing more than protectionism, similar to tariffs, to protect local industry. I've had American made Parmigiano Reggiano that was as good, if not better, than the Italian imported product. And nowhere near the price ( that is the main reason for protection; preserve the high price point ). Similarly, I've had brandy that is much better than the protected Cognac. And although I don't much care for sparkling white wine, I prefer Prosecco ( also protected ) to Champagne. But I do like Buffalo mozzarella; the fresh stuff still oozes milk when you cut into it. ( I have no idea how the buffa…
