Hello. I buy some ground meat. Add some salt and pepper, sometimes chopped onions, form the patties. Everything falls apart on the frying pan. More when flipping. If it was a barbecue grill, it would all fall in pieces into the gaps. What is the trick to keep it in one piece ? 😟

Have you ever had a situation where you find yourself trying to explain that some words in the English language are spelt the same but mean totally different things depending on the context. For example the word - wind This can mean a feature of the weather, e.g. air movement. Or to rotate something, e.g. a reel of hose. My question is, would it not make more sense to either change the spelling slightly, or create a new word? What are your experiences and opinions on the subject and also please offer other examples!

It seemed like during the 2000s American society was either encouraged to be overly obsessed with exercise, muscle cars, and the NFL or owning a rich mansion and being like a Kardashian. Why can't these men be both strong and smart? Like the astronauts? What was to blame for this? Hollywood? Has there been a pushback against this? It seems like there is no more stigma against fantasy themed TV shows with the massive success of "Game of Thrones". Would society be a better place if "meatheads" aspired to be more like astronauts?

Yes, a dumb question, but I am just listening to a baby crying across the village and I cannot remember if I ever heard any baby animal crying that loud... Strange. Are baby gorillas equally loud when crying? As far as I can remember, baby chicken can get very loud - possibly only quieter than human babies due to smaller body size. Are ostrich babies particularly loud?

Please bare in mind, whatever follows is not based on facts and it is all just some idea I thought of while reading some experiment. I am no scientist or have any degree in general science. Only computer science. Anyway here goes. So today I was busy reading this article that explained how you could simulate time travel by using a string and 3 people to simulate the pull effect of matter and how it will influence observers attached to that string. (you can google for the article "Step by Step Instructions for How to Build a Time Machine in Your Office in 30 Seconds"). Now, this made me think... If you could create a bubble of entangled particles around you…

Hi, under assumption; we ensured an association to publish our some articles by our request. then that association published those articles. assume please those publications include minor quotations. (E.g. descriptions or descriptive explanations ,I am also not sure whether really those publications include any quotations). However as the mentioned articles are created by memory (written by learning by heart) there is no research at the background in any of mentioned published articles. in this case will these published materials cause any copyright problems? and how to be sure on the issue with deep breath or how to resolve the case? Than…

I was looking through the car windscreen today as the rain came down (parked with the wipers off) Through the windscreen I was looking at a roughly painted white wall (a rendered finish which appeared as a collection of small pebbles-I think it may be called "pebbledash, actually) Anyway the visual effect was that ,as the rainwater ran down the 45° angled windscreen the "pebbles" seemed to move up the wall in an odd kind of opposing direction. Anyone noticed this ,or similar before?

How did you all formulate your usernames? My username is LazyLemonLucas. One, I'm not lazy I just had to put it in there to make it an alitteration. Two, I'm not a lemon, again, I just had to put it in there to make an altteration. Three, my real name isn't Lucas either. It was actually one of my old buddies who I met in school and I just thought that it would be cool to have my username as his namesake. Lazy. Lemon. Lucas. Triple L.

Hi. Find this video very pretty. If there was an 'educational videos' section, it would fit well. Move to 'Experiments' or leave it here; but enjoy it ! ---> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AXupc7oE-g

I just discovered this happened over 2 months ago. Did anyone hear this in the news? Armand Duplantis set another pole vault world record 20'4" in Belgrade on March 20, 2022. He cleared the bar by a few inches, brushing the bar on the way down. Only 2 other people ever vaulted higher than 20 feet, Bubka and Lavillenie.

Only the quarks named as u, d, s, c, t, b are allowed for now. The mandatory language is English Eventually, we will allow the use of bound states of quarks, like p (proton), n (neutron) and any other particles that can be named with a Latin letter, like the electron (e). Here's mine, STUD The next one is pretty obvious. You're allowed to use Shakespearian English, Yorkshire English, Alabama English. Only, please document.

To all women @SFN, and to all women in science: Happy Women's Day!! We value you, trust you, we love your work, and we wish you to keep going strong. Most importantly: We are inspired by you. You're better off without a Y chromosome, believe me. What's your favourite woman in science? Mine is Emmy Noether.

In the early/mid fifties, I remember getting building sets called "Bayko" and was designed for building houses, stations, garages, bungalows etc. It was my favourite Chrissy present! The Bayko sets started as simple designe building up to more complicated stuff and numbered arounf 4 or 5 sets from memory....the following photos give an idea of what could be constructed and the methodology...... In my very humble opinion, it leaves the LEGO construction sets for kids we see today, for dead! ....Anyone else remember them? Anyone else lucky enough to have had them? The other rather inovative and educational "toy" was the …

Inspired by another thread, I thought it might be good to have a place to put funny or otherwise notable ambiguities, and any comments about them in general Here's some that have been posted already elsewhere by TheVat: Kids make nutritious snacks Miners refuse to work after death Panda mating fails, veterinarian takes over Old school pillars are replaced by alumni One I've found: A woman in the UK gives birth every 48 seconds

Anyone else watched Project Blue Book? I am watching it on Peacock but I think it originally aired on the History Channel. Not a bad show, it does seem to be loosely based on actual UFO sightings, very loosely, they take a lot of poetic licence and make up details and change names but I do recognise the sightings from the late 50s to early 60s so far. Sadly they have left out some details that were IMHO important and made up stuff to make a "better" story but really didn't need the embellishments. Let me know if you watched it and want to discuss.

Tomorrow is ANZAC Day, commemorated in Australia and New Zealand as both our nations most solemn day of the year. ANZAC is an acronym for "Australian and New Zealand Army Corps" and is a most solemn day for remembering the fallen in all wars in which our nations have taken part in. Ironically it does not commemorate some glorious victory, but an inglorious defeat at ANZAC Cove Gallipoli when Australian and NZ troops stormed the beaches of Gallipoli, only to be mowed down by the defending Turkish troops in WW1. It was the first time the troops from both countries were to fight under their flags. The day is remembered at Gallipoli itself, with the co-operat…
