I've just come off a 7 day block for supposed lack of civility (perhaps complaining about argument by repetition from Arete, endlessly repeating that <0.5 Fst invalidates taxa?) and "not understanding biology", presumably for correcting one of your "experts". It would be nice if you could point out my most uncivil comments so I can avoid this in future. I'm sure this was the actual reason I was banned, and not because mods here don't like my opinion. I notice this thread has been locked very recently. "The thread is now repeating arguments and rehashing old discussion" Totally false. We seem to have overcome the race denial hurdle and were at the point of discussing…

Whenever I click on the New Content button it nearly always shows the Members option, instead of the forums first. Anyway to reverse so it defaults showing forums first? I have to press twice everytime atm.

hi ,although that member insulted me at another forum many many times and continued there and also imatfaal warned him at this thread: http://www.scienceforums.net/topic/97918-nature-publishing-physics-project-outlines/page-6 ,he refutes it, among his comments at this thread: http://www.scienceforums.net/topic/100317-to-patent-and-some-extraordinary-approachesunfortunately-need-help/ I would inform that this rude member caused me to take warning point. I never used and I am not in the party of usage of these words (given below) across anyone ** idiot ** foolish ** stupid so it would be good to say that one moderator is not correct according to my ideas. thats why…

"Over 9000 has been suspended for 3 days for abusive behavior and thread hijacking, and for refusing requests for clarity. New member hopefully, shaky start, nothing that can't be fixed with a bit more civility and patience." Since I don't want to be banned again I'd like some explanation "thread hijacking", and "refusing requests for clarity". Simply let me know which posts and points are in question. Thanks.

I thought that this was a speculation forum where people could discuss certain subjects and concepts that could still be at its infancy however as we get other people's insight and perspective, we are able to develop more ideas on the concept but sadly even in this trash bin forum, when a topic gets beyond the understandable norms of present science it is pinned down. Where else can we discuss on things and concepts from the farthest perspective of our brain.

I was wondering if its possible for a mod to delete my account? I don't wish to be a member of this community anymore. If that is possible, I'd like to have it deleted please. Not banned. Thanks.

Dear managers Does the software allow to add the "report" button in the preview panel ? I ask this because at this moment I must open the thread, tick the button report, write the report but then if I go out with the back button I see the spam report again, then the "new content" page as it was previously (the thread is indicated as not read). Then I need a refresh page. IOW I need about 7 moves for each spam report and that takes time. It should be more effective if the report was more easily accessible from the preview panel. Thank you.

one moderator implys that it was a rule of forum that we should quote/announce our another thread's link or other members' link which are opened / commented interior this forum. he said that we are allowed to quote the original that comment instead this. at first I would ask a reason for this rules? and secondly , isn't it more difficult to find that comment and QUOTE comment? because it's longer way. so I suggest to change this rule. it doesn't seem useful.

I am appalled that a post in which someone gave an idea of atoms being spaceships in which super intelligent people live, has been stopped. That person's voice has been silenced!!!! No one has the right to silence another human being. It is suppression!!!! Even considering the possibility that this individual may be in error, no one has the right to silence him or her. I am disgusted. I quote ' this is a science site not a science fiction site' moderators note. The author of the moderators note is a disgrace. Silencing someone because of the single motive that you disagree with them is very wrong. How can anyone disprove the author of this fascinating idea? That at…

There are people who charge for the kind of information we disseminate for free https://aeon.co/ideas/what-i-learned-as-a-hired-consultant-for-autodidact-physicists The description of these "alternative science" folks sounds quite familiar.

There been a lot of misleading spam post lately. May I, if you're not considering this option, recommend that you consider limiting new member's ability to post links until some minimum number of pristine posts are made. This could limit the number of single spam posters and their malware content.

I'm finding myself mildly irked by the abuse of the "status" feature to keep crankery on the forums' main page, i.e. in the "Recent Status Updates" section on the right side. Do these statuses violate posting rules 8 or 10?

hello ; to authors (members) 1)I think it would be better if all mebers contain the information of their interests or / and their degree programme & degree or / and experiences in their profiles. 2) I also recommend that those members (who do not contain such information) to contain their real age ,this one might be a bit important at sometime. (for instance ,I am genrally behaving/speaking with elderly ones softer (more careful) I do not know the reality ,but I predict that elderly people might be more sensitive.) but the first one is very important.I am generally checking their profiles to see members' interest at science. to forum (..'s mode…

I don't know how this title gets awarded (and how much money goes with it). I assume there is some sort of secret conclave where decisions are made. Or something. Anyway, I would like to nominate Markus Hanke for this title. This is for both his in-depth knowledge of GR (and, in future, QM) and also his ability to explain complex ideas very clearly.

My question would be an old chestnut: can 2+2 ever =5. I came up with a scenario where the answer, with little thought experiment, suggested "YES! I put my idea to a university maths professor of my acquaintance. He said no, absolutely not, and politely implied I was a complete idiot and wasting his time. Here is the scenario, which illustrates my dilemma whether maths or philosophy: I place a bag upon a table, ask "how many"? answer 1. Another bag. Answer 2. I open one bag, inside are two peanuts. How many? 2. Open second bag, contents 1 peanut. How many? Some say 1, some say 3 in total. Now vary the number of bags, their contents, add bags within bags, and the…

I notice the moderator hypervalent iodine has closed this thread with this comment: http://www.scienceforums.net/topic/95338-race-and-intelligence/?p=922230 There are two points here. That the moderator has deemed responses irrefutable before I could respond, and that the premise of the OP is "ridiculous". The moderator may consider the premise that IQ varies consistently by race to be ridiculous. Unfortunately the entire field of academic psychology does not. There is no debate about this. The only debate is about the cause of the differences. Why would papers discussing this be regularly published in top psychology journals if the premise was ridicul…

Hello! I noticed that newly joined member http://www.scienceforums.net/user/117635-n≡xt/ used some generally considered as illegal characters in his/her nickname. It's potentially dangerous for database, and security, if code responsible for accepting nickname is allowing any characters in UTF.. Only nicknames with a-z,A-Z,_,-,0-9 should be allowed to be made IMHO. Please notice we can't even write his/her name in reply, don't know what key press on keyboard to have these three horizontal lines (second char in nickname).. He/she made it accidentally, but revealed potentially dangerous leakage of forum software. Best Regards!

Hey guys, I was just wonder how the group section works. I found that now I'm in the senior members and I had figured that was going to take a long time, which it didn't. But anyways I was wondering what are all the groups and are there set requirements for them? The main reason I'm asking is that I would like to know who I can trust the most. Obviously, I can trust moderators, admins, etc. Just wondering who would be the best people to trust, because I trust quite a few people, like string junkie, phi, and strange. Im not sure if this is a non-sense question or not, just wondering. Thank you!

Does a speculation if proven become accepted science? I am having a debate over the 3D structure of a gravitational wave and I feel the speculation is proven. Can I then use that result in another thread as science fact?
