Hi everyone. I'm having some trouble logging into the forums. Every time I try, it says my password is incorrect. I've used Chrome to remember the password, and I've also typed it in myself to be sure it's right, but it never works. I have reset the password twice already and that usually automatically logs me in, but when I return later I'm logged out again, and logging back in results in the same problem, even though I know for sure that I am putting in the right password. I've now reset the password for a third time and am back in, but I know when I return later tonight, I'll be logged out and won't be able to log back in until I reset it again. Any idea…

I just scrolled down on the 'Browse' tab to the online list on the right hand side. I moved the mouse and suddenly the page expanded and changed to a much more useful list that I have never seen before. Well it would be useful if I could do it again. So what did I do right please?

I can't find a way to edit my signature, at the bottom of each post. I forgot how I recorded my signature (see below: "Tax junk foods" Anyone know how to edit that?

Again and again I keep bumping against the loss of the obviously useful way of referencing previous posts. That of post numbering in a thread. Why can we not have it restored? I see the post counter in lists now does not include the OP so is a 'reply counter'. Some more losses has come to light. When displaying lists of posts the Originator is credited (quite rightly), but the last poster is no longer displayed. Also now the time/date of the OP is stated but not when the most recent post was made. All of this is really useful information that facilitates navigation and is still standard in many other scientific forum…

I have a question but don't know where to place the question. How can I get the html version of my posts while I'm editing? There is no html toggle.

I recently placed a member on Ignore. The following 'events' have confused me: Initially their posts continued to appear, possibly for more than 24 hours. Later there posts were hidden, with an in thread notification of their presence. A short while ago I was able to directly access a thread they had started and see their post. I presume I've done something wrong. Any ideas?

I can't determine how to change my avatar and what size photo I should use. What are the dimensions? XxY? Is there a post minimum? -----edit------------------ This is how I determine the size of an acceptable avatar, brute force method: 1. screenshot of a post with an avatar/userpic. 2. Paste into MS graphics program 3. Determine the size displayed on the screen, the X x Y dimensions I requested. then 4. create an avatar with THOSE SPECIFIC dimensions.

I notice that on my profile one of the details listed is "days won", regarding the times I had the most "liked" content on a particular day. I can't seem to figure out how to find the content that I posted on those days. What am I missing?

One of the hopes with the new software was that trash posting would be reduced (I dare not say eliminated ... oh heaven) , but the rash posters seem to have found their way round the new layout a lot better than I have. Are there any statistics yet to show if the reduction goal has been achieved? Or are the mods having to work harder than ever to remove this stuff ? This morning it seems to be at the same level as before and the trash posters certainly seem to get posted very quickly after joining. See the screenshot below. I think an original post button would be really helpful in some cases. Like a small button that you could click to view the original post, before any edits were made. Just a suggestion. To me it seems like a simple thing to add but I have very limited experience in designing websites so I don't know.

I've seen a few posts recently about the fraction of science threads relative to politics and religion threads. I would agree with those posts but... Does anyone have any ideas to how we can shift the balance? Over the years we've tried closing those areas and tribe a hard line. It results in those threads filling up the other fora. Currently I believe you need a certain number of posts to post in those areas which certainly has reduced the rubbish. I really want to know your ideas and thoughts.

In this thread the damn stupid editor, which was most definitely not WISIWYG, changed my typing in an equation so I can't type it in correctly and false information is presented in the posts. I tried it three times, it was correct in the typing box, but changed as soon as I posted. The edit typing box does not allow access to the super/subscript icons either. So I can't change it back.

It can take me 20 minutes or more to compose/enter a proper and sensible post such as the one I just made in the 'outliers' thread. By the time it is ready I find myself logged out, which is very annoying. This also used to happen with the old system but the dropout time was longer. Can the dropout time be reset upwards?

When someone changes their status or announces, please have a small box where we can insert our comments. The current way of answering status comments is too long-winded.

Exploring the new forum layout I took a glance at the "Online Users" function. I was a little surprised by the result. Thirty users and their activities were displayed, covering "Just Now", "One Minute Ago" and "Two Minutes Ago". Of these thirty users only two were members. Myself and String Junky. Of the Guests, one was registering, two were looking at particular threads, but the remainder were all viewing profiles of members. None of the member names were ones that I recognised. This just seemed an odd and unexpected distribution of users. I wondered if this was some bot scanning user profiles looking for contact information, or whatever. Any thoughts. Am I ju…

I note I can now write a public message to another member. What does that look like and where does it appear please? Does this mean there are no longer any private messages? What about the little envelope icon. What sort of message is this?
