Philosophy and Religion Rules

Participation in the philosophy and religion forums on SFN is considered a privilege. To maintain a reasonable standard of debate, certain rules must be established. Members who violate these rules despite warnings from staff will no longer be allowed to participate in the religion forums.

Philosophy/religion forum rules:

  1. Never make it personal.
    1. Disagreements about beliefs should never be in the form of attacks on the believers. This isn't a place to air grievances. Civility and respect towards other members are needed here even more than elsewhere on SFN, even when you disagree.
    2. Disagreements about beliefs should never be interpreted as attacks on the believers, even when they are. If you can't handle having your beliefs questioned, you don't belong here. If you feel insulted, that does not excuse you from rule 1.a.
  2. Don't use attacks on evolution, the big bang theory, or any other widely acknowledged scientific staple as a means of proving religious matters. Using scientific reasoning is fine, but there are certain religious questions that science cannot answer for you.
  3. Do not post if you have already determined that nothing can change your views. This is a forum for discussion, not lectures or debates.

Of course, the general SFN forum rules also apply. If a member consistently violates the general rules in the religion forum (for example, by being consistently off-topic), their access to the religion forum may be revoked.

These conditions are not up for debate, and they must be adhered to by all members. If you don't understand them, ask for advice from a moderator before posting.

Why did God create this life? This is a question on the minds of many, and I, as a Muslim, have a clear answer in the Qur’an. God Almighty says in the Qur’an: " [He] who created death and life to test you [as to] which of you is best in deed ". So this life was created by God for testing, and the purpose of the test is: to determine the place of each person in the afterlife, a person in heaven and a person in hell, and heaven and hell are degrees as well. Look at the students in schools, they go through many years of tests in order for their place in society to be properly determined, and also this life is a test to determine each person's place in the afterli…

Water is intimately connected to Devine. For centuries humans have used water as a medium for human encounter with the divine. These waters are a getaway to God’s blessings. Bring the presence of our creator all around you through daily prayer and reuse it. This water is sacred and magical!! It is sourced from the most sacred holy places on earth, the Jordan River, Lourdes Shrine, Guadalupe, Vatican City, Mecca and many other places. Does the book of ezekiel in the bible describe spacecraft landings on earth? The early portion of ezekiel describes what sounds like a spacecraft landing. There are massive clouds and fire which resemble thruster fire and smoke produced by rocket combustion engines. Wings and straight legs with wheels. A canopy similar to ice. Which is similar to glass. And finally a loud roar like the high pitched whine of a jet engine. After the rocket lands, its wings appear to retract like an F-14 for easier storage.

What Reincarnation is basically telling us is that there is only One World! This one that God made for us God made this world, this earth, gave us this life. Life is a Gift from God and what Reincarnation is saying is that we can savor this Gift over and over again But we understand that this life is not easy, nothing is Free, nothing is Given, we have to WORK for a living, PAY for what we eat, where we live, EARN what we desire And this displeases many people who want the easy good life but don't want to work for it Some become supporters of powerful men like Putin, Kim Jong-un, support him blindly, kill, rape people at his behest and enjoy a life of …

Christianity advocates spirit rebirth. That's what the born again christian thing is all about. A million dollar industry. But Jesus came back to life PHYSICALLY. Teach me how to achieve physical reincarnation and I'll go to church, so to speak. The point is, are churches calling the spirit rebirth (be born again or suffer in hell) the same thing as the physical rebirth? If so aint that a lie against the bible? Spirit rebirth= born again = what happened to jesus = untrue. Jesus= born again physically like frankenstein. No spirit mumbo jumbo in the resurrection. Thoughts?

  11. I noticed how some wildly successful IT companies use organizational structures and strategies that resemble the outlook of specific Abrahamic religions. Much of this revolves around ways to take in consideration a non-linear unknown and around strategies in limiting the coverage of their structure of knowledge. The modern concept of science supposes a confidence that knowledge can be expanded in any direction. In this sense, it appears that the complexity of the IT environment challenged too much this notion of linear expansion and it determined the resurgence of some psychological outlooks that resemble the ethos of specific Abrahamic religions. What makes them succe…

Creation says that something made species to arise. Creation does not say how species arise. Evolution does not say that nothing made species arise.

I checked at reviews for this book. A science explanation for intelligent design. No religion. But I thought it would be a good read for the scientist looking at science for answers. Darwin's books are now public license. I don't care to study them but I have read excerpts that I consider bad science. I think that is what the author of the book while argue that the is much more that needs to be explained. The reviews also mention how DNA and evolution relate.

God does exist and you will regret all later I tell you. You can deny if you want, but is true and you can not do anything about it. You are men so you know very little, while I am Guardian and I know too much than what men can handle. Ban me already. And time travel does exist and also the supernatural. I understand if you do not understand.

To all those who do believe in a faith system, I'd like to know, would it bother you if your God was not exactly all powerful? I'm asking out of curiosity because on a reddit forum recently I proposed an article that God does indeed have a limitation, however, as far as concerns the creation of humanity we could still regard God (if one believes in it) as the most powerful being in our immediate orbit of existence. So, would it bother anyone if this was the case? Or does your faith hinge on the belief that your God is absolute in all respects? The link to the article is below for anyone who wishes to read in full: https://medium.com/@thelittleblackbook/what…

  20. God must have a problem. If not, he would have already solved it all, may be long time ago... May be it could be up to us, humans, to find and solve it. Here are my thoughts, untill now, in a twelve pages pdf. Hope it could help to solve the things... I'm a little crazy, I know, but may be I could be right. My hope is in that is up to otherones to analyze and may be go further looking for what could be wrong or missing if necessary. May be it could be just a matter of time... ANLIM2022April.pdf

I found out today that God is MASSIVELY in favour of the death penalty. I looked up Onanism, (after a reference to masturbation) and it's a pretty good read. Judah had two sons, Er and Onan. God slew Er because he was wicked. Case closed. The death penalty is moral. Although of course, being God, he would KNOW without any doubt that Er was indeed guilty of being wicked. We mere mortals convict on REASONABLE certainty, so there is always that bit of uncertainty I guess. But in cases where there is no doubt at all, then the death penalty is moral, because God didn't just say so, he actually performed the execution himself. God then spoke to Er's young…

  24. I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw that this religion section was for discussing the rational foundations of religion. There is nothing rational about any aspect of religion. All religions are cults. They have no basis in reality. Except for maybe the reality in which deception is sometimes used in the animal kingdom. In the case of religion, the deception is mostly self deception. Religions are based on faith. Not reality. Their purpose is to give answers that are often incorrect. As for the christian religion, (which I am most familiar with) it is a tool used to alleviate followers from responsibility. One way in which is to call something god's doing. …

Good and evil are arbitrary constants wherein human beings measure, on a scale of relativity, how each other's actions measure up to the needs and wants of the others. In the theme of cause and effect, good and evil don't matter. Cause and effect; that nothing matters. The law of the jungle prevails and the winner is the fittest, the smartest. The cause and effect ideology vs the good and evil ideology, which one is better for a society? Even if the law of the jungle did prevail, the weaker creatures would evolve in other ways to survive. It's just that evolution in a cause and effect society would be haphazard, and depend on individual needs. In o…
