I majored in biotech and do research on diagnostic kits for infectious diseases. Say I "teach" myself programming and even become certified in R or some kind of programming language involved in data science/ bioinformatics. Would industry knowledge (working in biotech 1-5 years) plus moderate knowledge of programming allow someone like myself to move into bioinformatics and/or genetics? Just trying to build up my assets without going back to school and majoring in another program. Thoughts appreciated. ~EE

© In a day of boredom, I had this thought that a conventional keyboard was such a mess. So I decided to make a new layout. The characteristics are the following: 1.The keyboard is symmetrical, the spacebar is in the middle of the length, 4 keys away from the left, and 4 keys away from the right. 2. the letters are in alphabetical order 3. the alphabet is composed in 3 lines of 9 letters with last the ? 4. the letters are in the center of the layout. 5. the numbers 123456789 are above the letters abcdefghi 6. The zero is placed before the number 1 (as in the number line) and not after number 9 7. the F1 key is above the number 1, the F2 above the 2, a.s.…

Hey, college exams are really strict in that they force you to hand them your phone, wallet etc to stop cheating. While I can understand where they are coming from am I the only one here that feels uncomfortable with handing their important personal belongings to people they don't know?

For a story in Reader's Digest, I am putting together a list of the most mind-boggling discoveries/inventions/findings so far in 2017, and I need your ideas! The list could include findings from every branch of science-- astronomy, behavioral psychology, medicine, genetics, biology, etc. Our main criteria is that the findings are interesting, surprising or useful, and that they were published in 2017. Please share your ideas here. Thanks so much for your help on this!

I thought it would be interesting to see what the current age distribution is here. If you wish to declare your age group or age, you can in a post in this thread but it is not required for the purposes of the poll. I'm in the 1961 -1970 group.

Hi friends, When we were kids and young, we all had some kind of misconceptions about the world around us that we see. I had several of such odd thoughts that I want to share with you all. When I studied in class 4/5, I was introduced to the concept how a electric energy lights a bulb (don't think it to be in detail, for we had only a simple diagram of a DC circuit). In the picture given in my book, there was a battery which was connected to a small bulb through two wires. As a convention two signs were given overhead the battery terminals ( + and - ). At that time, I presumed that + and - denotes the two charge types flowing through the wires. I guessed that proto…

We have all seen the news of the recent cyberattacks. I would just like to remind members of the urgent need for keeping their data backups bang up to date. These attacks can reach individuals as well as large organisations.

I follow (not "like") a lot of pages on Facebook and I use the "see first" option to prioritize certain pages, but it seems I've reached my limit and can't put anything on "see first" any more. I'm wondering if there's a way to see the list of pages I follow and see what's set on "see first" and what isn't? I know I can go to "News Feed Preferences," but that seems to give me a mix of things I like and follow and only allows me to prioritize one thing. Is there a way to see only things I follow?

Given ever-increasing automation of everything, how will the job market look like in 2030 or 2050? Will the idea of a "job" even exist?

You are not teachers, why do you all presume your explanations are correct? Thread closed again for no reason but your lack of teaching skills. Nowhere else on the internet do I observe such arrogance as this forum....You get my worse forum vote , so you might as well ban me again for about the 30 time. You all think you know it because you explain wiki , in reality can not think for yourselves or even understand your own science. In short not many of you know what you are actually talking about. Bye cya next time around when I might be a teenager or a single mum or some other type sock. Ban my IP so I can just float it and return with my mult…

We can revert the planet to it's state prior to civilisation; in this document is a method. As a whole, however big or small, we have a ritualistic regime; we worship that which supports us, such as flora and fauna, until it's support is majesty. Ex. We fill homes with plant-life for the ritualistic effect of not being part of civilisation (this is not optimum but serves as an example of a ritualistic regime). In theory our species is to 'reconstruct the natural dome-shape'. Clean bombing of towns and cities, using natural elements, and parts of construction (rather than new resource) to mould the dome-shape; originally it will appear a lower grade nature…

Eyeballs are capable of curing any illness and can spur optimum pleasure. The pupil of the eye is the passage between sight and iris, as long as stimulation is present, eyes can cause our neurons to form the necessary patterns and rhythm, to simulate a cure or mind-state. We must understand the prospect of, per say, cancer, before we can ponder on required stimulation. There are three grades of harsh; a harsh species-related nature, a harsh nature and random harsh. Life on this planet in the present era is strange, many obstacles are in the way of clean judgement - but these obstacles can be overcome by sensory. As long as communication is available, we c…

It's a fact that the world's non-white population carry the most STDs. Why? In the days of Pokémon Cards (aerodactyl, and so forth), STDs never crossed my mind, but now Non-Whites are populating at an ever fast rate, and STDs are on my mind. Why do STDs occur mostly in Non-Whites?

People of the world perceive each other on a scale of good. Evil is a liberty that's digressive, it can be contained. Why not earn yourself a good start in the next life? Traveller, from planet to planet - your own Sun. You are probably more evil than those in the past, but that doesn't mean you can't change... Your ancestors were personally understood, but judgement is righteous. You are not forgiven for evil, you must be able to forgive yourself. The planet will fend for itself, and we are part of it.

The best joke of today is this, don't miss out the irony. The odds are stacked against whites who cower from the idea of White Profit. The thought of other races thinking distracts us, from near and afar. We often stumble into conversation off of the thought of other race person. During, after. Whites must learn how to think carefully in these conditions, and adjust their sense of the white. Scared of jump, bounce... Look? The adrenaline rush is present but whites are being swindled. Make up for past mistakes!

Hello everyone Writing my thesis, I was wondering certain things on mentioning myself, my supervisors, co-supervisors and advisor (I'll call them all my supervisors henceforth): Situation: Some of my supervisors have one or multiple middle names. All of my supervisors are physicians. Some of my supervisors are a professor. My other supervisors are PhD candidates. I have to mention all of them multiple times in quite official pages:Cover page Myself without anyone else on a 'sec' title page, with only title and author (p. i) Title page (p. iii) (identical to the cover page) P. iv, giving an overview of author, supervisors, co-supervisor, advisor and commissioner o…

Hi, The table below is my construct (based on various sources) showing the dates for the signs of the zodiac. The first column shows the dates as they "should" be when Precession is included. The second column contains the dates as they are used in Astrology today. The third column indicates when (in the northern hemisphere - UK) it is best to observe the constellations. What I do not understand is why the dates in column 1 and column 3 are not 6 months apart given that column 1 indicates when the sun "is in" the constellation, surely means that 6 months earlier or later would be the best time to observe the constellation as it would then be on the other side of …

Hi, I'm French and I'm looking for a native english who could correct one document I wrote in English. Thanks a lot for your help ! A myth is a story about hero which is usually spread verbally. Heroes are the mains protagonists of myths. They can be defined as people real or imaginary admired for there achievements. We will see more precisely what is a hero through the case of Gandhi and we will study why Gandhi was such a hero in death. It’s evident that almost everybody think that Gandhi is a hero but very often without knowing why. We will try to understand why he can be considered as a hero and why not. From the 16th to 1947, India was under the cont…

3 days ago I was watching the Librarian. In there there was a math genius, her name was Cassandra, and she sounds like Pinkie Pie. The secret of why she is good at math is because she has a Tumor in her brain. In one episode there are 3 Ladies of the Lake. I thought they were Sirens, but I guess they are not sirens. That night, I went to bed and I was suddenly feeling good at math. I went to bed and I started doing equations in my head. I self-taught myself some equations and discovered the answer to the equations. I realized that if you plot the functions the cross of the lines will tell you the result of the variable. For example, if you have an equation c=(c-1)/3 to fi…

I'm sick of people using internet forums to bash on homosexuality as a way to demonstrate their lower mind density. Homophobia is totally unacceptable and unscientific. There's no reason to tolerate this behavior. I hope this helps.
