hi, may I request help from the ones who have interest to this issue, my queries will be: 1) whether the direct opinion would be correct , thinking like entry to prosperous countries would be better (i.e. will bring more income).Furthermore, turkish patent office (i.e. tpe) 's international preliminary examination shows that my invention has no inventive step. So, does this mean that the examination phase will fail in national phase of another country. (especially for prosperous countrys') (note: according to ISR (ISA=TR), the invention is novel, industrial applicable but lacking for inventive step as said. ) 2) whether there are any organizations or assoc…

If I had a bitcoin in a virtual wallet, and the restaurant accepts such 'currency'; how would the restaurant give me the change from buying a $3 hamburger from a bitcoin 'valued' at $15,000 ?

I've often found it odd when people who are in relationships will comment on the attractiveness of other people. I don't mean kind of dispassionately saying that some person is objectively attractive, but in a really animated way talking about how hot another person is. I'm talking about celebrities here, not people in the person's general social circle. Here's a specific example: A friend's girlfriend used to talk about how hot a famous athlete was (in my friend's presence) and had photos of him on her phone. My friend's attitude was, what do I care, it's not like she can end up with him. This is not how I see this. I see this behavior as completely unacce…

Hi everyone. Is there an "about" link for this forum, similar to the type of thing most websites provide? Can I ask the following sorts of questions: 1. In a short paragraph, what does this website or forum aim to do? 2. What affiliations or structures exist (e.g is this a subsidary of We-are-foums-dot-com)? Where does the funding come from? 3. Is there a registered office and/or a conventional postal address for this organisation? 4. Is there an internal complaints procedure? - - - - - End of introduction, setting the scene etc. Informal, chat type discussion to follow --- (Briefly) What is the history of developm…

This is a great little video showing oarfish in shallow water. Some reports of sea serpents are thought to have been inspired by these animals and it's easy to see why.

Greetings. Aluminium windows of goofy design transmit/conduct the sub-freezing exterior to the frame interior causing condensation and mold. Applying chlorine bleach kills the mold instantly; but would like opinions on a powder/solid 'chalk'/drying film spray applicable to the frame to prevent long term the mold from forming.

I was reading through Mordred's long standing thread on space and I came across some posts from Mike in the early part. Members may wish to know that Mike passed away earlier this month after a long standing degenerative illness (not covid). Mike was an interesting character, an artist with a degree in Physics and the founder of a successful manufacturing business before retirement to Cornwall. His artistic (dreamy) side gave him an unusual and sometimes frustrating perspective on Physics, especially later in life when we knew him. But he was a genuine character and sometimes offered suprising insights as well.

As usual I'm trying to "figure out" obscure subjects. I stumbled upon a Qanon believer when I was listening to music on Youtube. It is a nice version of Bob Marley's song "Babylon System." If you want to listen to it, I posted the song at the end of this post. In the song Bob Marley sings: Babylon system is the vampire, yea! Suckin' the children day by day, yeah! Me say de Babylon system is the vampire, falling empire, Suckin' the blood of the sufferers, yeah! Building church and university, wooh, yeah! Deceiving the people continually, yeah! Me say them graduatin' thieves and murderers Look out now they suckin' the blood of the sufferers A couple of …

Yes and no apparently. This isn't news or a question, I wasn't sure what to do with it so I stuck it here. Hot water freezing faster than cold water is a 'fact' I've heard several times now. Searched for an answer and found this. Found it an interesting read, Thought I'd post it. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/is-it-true-that-hot-water/

Itseems to me that Science is a bit of a pyramid scheme, with too many people doing PhDs and higher stages to progress far up the academic career ladder. What successful careers have people had after half a career as an academic?

This short video details the idea of a nuclear saltwater rocket. This rocket is pretty much a continuous nuclear explosion propelling the space craft. The vid is short and informative not to mention wild! Should development of such an engine be pursued?

Is there such thing as a paint that looks like a glossy metal (like stainless steel or nickel-plated steel). For example, a cheaper sink tap might have a plastic handle, but 'painted' to look like metal - is this a paint or what? Is it something that I can simply buy in a store (I have no experience... maybe it is just that easy)? I need to make some ordinary carbon steel parts look shiny. I am thinking about nickel-electroplating but it seems a bit expensive where I am (and I am also afraid that there are different steel grades welded together in these parts and I am not sure if this can cause problems when electroplating). So, do I have a paint or some other option…

I want to buy a good chair as I spend most of the day sitting for work and had some pain in my arm because my current chair is just a wooden one from the kitchen. I have no idea what is a good chair to buy and there is so many brands I have never even heard of. The local furniture store has one that looks like this for 160. One person I know has a secret labs chair and he says it is very comfortable but they are very pricey so am not sure about it. Work uses IKEA chairs but am not sure whether I would be more comfortable in something that wasn't mesh. https://www.ikea.com/ie/en/p/jaervfjaellet-office-chair-gunnared-dark-grey-80363596/

Suppose we wanted to leave a message to another civilization in the event that our's came to a bad end and so we could inform others of our failure (or our successes) ,how could we be sure that our message would be understood if it was ever come upon and read? Would we need to invent some kind of a universal language that we could be confident that any (or at least many/ most ) advanced civilizations would be able to decipher? What basic principles could be employed to ensure that the "reader" would firstly understand that our message was worth the effort to understand and then that it could be understood? Has this subject been already explo…

I have used the word guns to make it easier But even bigger bullet weapons are included. 1. Camera helmet Has anybody ever thought of putting a camera on a military helmet. So it can enable the soldier on the battlefield,to see through the camera not through the camera not through the expensive gargles. it should be remembered that a device like a smartphone will be required for the camera to send that view on its screen so the soldier wearing the smart helmet. This would enable soldiers protect their eye sight with metal.which would be cheaper) Because the whole helmet would be made of metal. No expensive gargles needed this time It s…

For whatever reason, a question that has been in my mind for many years, "what ever happened to Laika?", popped up again yesterday. Maybe it's because I tend to feel sad in Christmas. It's a recurring theme for me. Christmas seem to be all about loss. And I'm a Cold-War kid. In recent years I've learnt from paleo-anthropologists that we probably owe much of what we are to the presence of dogs in our lives, that goes back tens --if not hundreds-- of thousands of years at the very least. https://phys.org/news/2019-02-prehistoric-humans-dogs-death.html We owe them so much. Anyway, I found this story answering all my questions. It's not a happy story, I must wa…

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18810658/ So I've ruffled some feathers here saying such things as, "natural discovery is of an order higher than science," notwithstanding that I've also said, "science is one very useful way of looking at nature." I've been working at home with my own ferments, as a way to preserve and enhance foods. My methods are based on Biblical clues, and clues from Katrina Blair's, Wild Wisdom of Weeds. I've accidentally developed skills manufacturing kombucha and kefir, carbonated kefir. So in the abstract above, the paper isolates a bacteria from kombucha rather than studying the kombucha, and the kefir directly. This is why …
