  1. Who made this rule? How is someone coming up with a new idea supposed to have an equation ready to go? Let alone having a scientific background. Shouldn't you be embracing new ideas? Is the intention for only people in the field to claim discoveries?

  2. 5/15 on https://www.scienceforums.net/topic/119001-mental-momentum-short-essays-about-mind-and-brain/, I tried to post my ideas about how our mind and brain work (exactly the same material I posted in our thread). From then on, I’ve been receiving attacks from the moderators, not on the validity of my theory, but on my person. After I’ve addressed the issue, the moderator Strange made an insincere apology. Afterward, Strange constrained his/her posts on a theoretical level, but continued to deliberately impede me to publish my ideas without pointing out how my theories are scientifically invalid. Around six hours after Strange’s insincere apology, another moderators …

I noticed that there is some bug in the forum software. Look at this: You see? I just wrote the posting, but my last visited is May, 7th. I noticed this also in other profiles, so it is not an error just when I am looking at my own profile.

OK, Just woke up gone to the bathroom for the usual, make myself a cup of coffee, open up the computer to find out that I forgot to log out from the forum last night. This isn't the first time either. Is there any way after say an hour or so of inaction by a member online, that he or she is then automatically logged out? Nothing critical of course can develop from that but it is annoying at least from my perspective. Just a suggestion.

  5. I have been corresponding with fellow members of this community, in relation to a hypothesis posed based on observation. This has unfortunately been closed to further replies, because it does not meet two of the requirements for speculations discussions. The first point relates to the lack of statistical evidence, of which I am sure I will be able to compile, thanks to suggestions and guidance from a fellow member. However, the second point is directed at being able to "falsify" my data. I have been having some problems during my correspondents, with the use of scientific terminology. I am a non academic which I pointed out several times during my correspondents, but thi…

  6. Hello forum, Recently I have been reading more and more threads of people trying to disprove well established science with their own pet theories. I totally understand engaging in a polite discussion and explaining why they are incorrect in their assumption but doing a ridiculous back and forth for 7 pages while the OP refuses to provide any model or evidence...in my view is a waste of time and it clogs this wonderful forum that I hold so dear. I know there have been backlashes from even veteran members about the closing of some threads but can't we have a forum rule that if you propose a new theory you have to provide some data, some maths, something, even…

My confusion relates to the application of Rule No. 5, in the Guidelines, specifically the part in bold: " Stay on topic. Posts should be relevant to the discussion at hand. This means that you shouldn't use scientific threads to advertise your own personal theory, or post only to incite a hostile argument." In the thread Religious Diversity and Biblical Explanation (Christian Apologetics) swansont made the following moderator intervention: " The question posed by this thread is why religions are diverse. It is NOT an issue of the "correctness" of any religion, and further discussion along those lines will end up in the trash." That seems straightforward, h…

Hello, i am a student of Neuroscience at University. I love neuroscience and science in general, in particular Physics: i love to question the base of reality and it's mechanism. This passion made me explore Physics by reading famous books of great scientist and communicators like Neil DeGrasse Tyson, Lawrence Krauss, Brian Green, Stephen Hawking etc. But now, i realised I would like to learn things more deeply, expecially the match behind it, unfortunately it is impossible for me to start a new University degree in Physics, i would do that ( if i had another life to live )but my career in neuroscience would be impacted. Is it possible to learn Physics and Theoretic…

I must say I was disappointed with both the premature closure of this thread on power generation and the immediately adverse and even hostile reception a new member received. https://www.scienceforums.net/topic/118572-i-offer-the-innovation-green-technology-of-generation-of-the-electric-power-by-means-of-a-new-renewable-energy-resource/?tab=comments#comment-1099130 I say premature closure because I have just looked at the thread for the first time and it is already closed. So I have no opportunity to offer some encouragement and perhaps a way forward to the new member. Any schoolboy with would be able to build a conventional model generator, per…

A few hours ago a thread was closed because " we should not discuss any topic about to make explosives". ( Can I make explosives with my own pee ? ) Seems a bit like 'closing the barn door after the horse is gone'. You can watch a 1967 episode of StarTrek TOS. to find out how to make gunpowder. ( and if you can find a 4 inch bamboo shoot, and a fist sized diamond, you can make a mortar, and kill a Gorn ) You can find a multitude of sites on the 'interwebs' disseminating such information. And even elementary ( high school level ) textbooks, available at any public library, will give you that information. If we are primarily a discussion/teaching site, s…

  13. Hello, I'm 14 and I need to find out what's wrong with me. Sometimes it just feels like I'm an outcast. I live with and know my family but I don't like them because I feel they don't know me, they don't know what I feel, they don't know what I want. I open up more to my friends but it just feels like they like me a lot less than others, which make me really sad. I feel like an outcast wherever I am and I have extreme amounts of social anxiety, I have trouble trying to explain myself in front of my peers so most of the time I keep to myself. I really feel that no one likes me at all. They all think I'm annoying and criticize me for being chubby. I also feel really em…

  17. Speculation is defined as: the forming of a theory or conjecture without firm evidence. Heaven could lie in black holes. A similar theory was conjured up in the movie Interstellar.

  19. Started by MigL,

When I logged on last night, there was a thread, by RenaissanceChemist I believe, in which he posted a cartoon, attributed to Swansont circa 1985, which seemed to advocate violence. I replied to the OP, as did a couple of other members. This morning, that thread is nowhere to be found, and individual posts in our profile pertaining to that thread are also gone. Is there an explanation other than early onset senility ( on my part ), or the fact that it was late and I was possibly asleep and dreaming, for this disappearing act ?

  20. Started by QuantumT,

Aren't the mods here a bit too eager and fast to close threads? I fully understand that many threads can be too fringe or exotic to be considered science, but that's not what I'm talking about! A genuine scientific thread might start with misconceptions and be on the border to the rules, but can still serve as educational to both the OP and the readers, while the errors in it are corrected by the peers on this site. But they never get the chance! I used to be filled with curiosity, ideas and theories, but after having several threads here closed for petty reasons, I have come to a stale. It sucks. I miss the old avid me. The me that had ideas all the time. Not…

  21. This has been brought up before, but I would like to gather some consensus from members as to what is wanted so that I may do something about it (or not, as the case may be). Do you think the ability to down vote posts / statuses should be removed (and why)? It has been a bit more problematic with this new update, as we can no longer set independent limits on how much negative rep a person can give in a day. That being said, I think it can still serve a valuable purpose in separating the wheat from the chaff, and can give newer members an immediate sense of what we accept as a community, as well as giving an indication as to the scientific veracity of certain …

  22. Hypervalent threatened to ban me after I posted this in Cornel's "Can science prove God" (Can science prove God or Afterlife.) To me her act is a display of intense personal hatred. Down in the thread, responding to a request for a definition of 'love' I presented: I don't know if bible verses will be allowed here, but probably everyone will have seen posters and greeting cards reading, "Love is kind, patient ..." I'll try this instead: 'Love is that which leads to life.' Then we must define life .. biologists will have an opinion on that, and there will be many different opinions, because there will be staunch atheist biologists who believe …

Why is it that many threads do not proceed smoothly simply because posters (particularly the Original Poster) say either too little or far too much in their opening and subsequent posts? What advice can be given to achieve the right length of post?

Why do I have to be pestered with this cookie nonsense every time I look on the forum now? Surely accepting the cookies once should be enough. And is anyone going to tell us about the changes to the site. Who knows some of them might actually be useful to users.

  25. Started by Strange,

There are threads that ask a straightforward question and get responses that clearly answer the question, often with an acknowledgment to that effect from the OP. Should we have a policy for those threads that we mark it as "SOLVED" (in the title) and close it? The solved tag could help people looking to see if the question has been asked and answered. The point of closing would be to stop further random, and possibly unhelpful, contributions. Thoughts?
