These days I am occasionally reading and posting on SFN via my iPad. However, I am having problems with the posting. When I click, or rather tap, on the text box at the bottom, I get no keyboard coming up like I would do on most sites. Therefore I cannot post. The same thing happens with tapping reply - I get a box with the quote in but no way of inputing my own content. I am actually posting this message from my iPad, because I realized if I choose the style IP.Board Mobile, then Afind everything works ok. I get a keyboard and can post normally. However, it isn't a very functional style and I would much rather browse on my iPad, which has a reasonable size screen, w…

Cap'n - can I please make a point of order about the Religion subforum. It should be renamed 'Religion and Science,' because some of the keener members of the Science Forum are using it to present religious views without scientific justification. I am actually a religious person, but I want to discuss religion in a scientific context, the whole point of a sub Forum. I am quite disappointed at how it is turning out, with all the 'soapboxing' and the 'preaching'. Please do something....!

SFN can, in my opinion, increase the field of interest in Science by inviting 'Associate Members' to contribute to the Forum. These can be 'celebrities' or well-known members of the public with a bit of scientific knowledge and may have something to contribute to any part of the Forum. I was thinking, in particular, of Philosophy, Ethics or Religion sub Forums. However, pure Science topics also have something to gain from external input. I am not talking about A-list celebrities here, but I would love to see the likes of Konnie Huq (2(i) degree in Economics, Cambridge University), a T.V. broadcaster and journalist, contribute to our Forum.

I had been sending PM's to another member of this forum and find that the conversation had been deleted, but the final post was forwarded as email. Are you all, discontinuing PM's, or editing PM's for content and deciding which should be sent Email or as PM's....I don't mind direct emails, but have long learned, if direct emails are used either party then developing a problem, will blame a new email sender.

ta-da, just like that. http://www.scienceforums.net/topic/15439-welcome-creationists-to-science-forums-and-debate/ 2nd post near the end. the quoted sentence is unfounded, unscientific, and misleading(as was intended), at best, we'll say it was a mistake. so i followed the rules, reported it. nothing happened. well maybe i should be thankful i was left unscathed? i wasn't, i became the geniua pig for a new forum "feature" of having your posts "inspected" before being posted. i passed the test phase safely, thank god. i also PMed an admin, he rightfully said there's nothing in the forum rules against being wrong, which is strange with all the demands of scient…

ATTENTION head moderator Would you, or someone PLEASE inform mooeypoo that it would be nice if she was certain of her facts before posting moderator comments in the thread, by example she posted a moderator item about celestial grids and helical rising requiring peer review, and more recently about my re-posting an item I wrote myself so that I could clear up a mistake made by Insane-alien thank you

On occasion one of my sons sends me fantastic pictures of the universe. Recently he sent a "show and tell" about our own galaxy done by the Hubble telescope. Since they were done perhaps a year or two ago, many of you may have seen them. But if there's a chance some of you haven't, I'd like to post them, if possible. Since they are not http, I don't know how to do it. Is it allowed? And if so, would you give me a hand? Thanks

There seem to be a lot of SFN members who make one or two posts then disappear from the Forum. I humbly suggest that a first post be highlighted in red and that the person making the post be inundated with answers and welcomed to the forum. Moreover, if someone makes only a handful of posts, they should be sent an automatic mail message to invite them to make some comment on the Forum. In my opinion, a little bit of PR goes a long way to maintain the already high interest in such a superb Forum - my first port of call when I crank up my old computer and modem B)

Four entries in 'My Comments' contain the instruction "Call this number on Skype" followed by a mobile telephone number, is this gewnuine or some sort of scam?

Guys, the new layout is not very attractive. It's not. It even seems as if the Google Ads pop-out more than before. Anyone else have an opinion about the new layout?

On the locked Forum Rules forum http://www.scienceforums.net/topic/49483-moderators%3B-admins%3B-etc/ the maths expert Bignose states: Popper's main point is one of falsifiability. Without the ability to falsify an idea, the idea is NOT science. It is story telling. This is not strictly correct, Popper clearly states that non-perturbative theories cannot be falsified; Popper defines ‘non-perturbative' as having no margin of error. Only perturbative theories (i.e.with a mathematical margin of error) can be falsified.

Dear admins & mods, As a newbie in scienceforums.net, I would like to suggest to separate the all the disciplines of engineering into divided sections (e.g : Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemistry Engineering, etc etc etc) since it seems kinda disorganized. This is because when we view the topic (of course in your mind will be think is it mechanical engineering or civil engineering for example). Cheers

I realize that the nomination process for the user awards is already closed, but next year I would suggest adding a couple of fun categories: -Favorite/Most Interesting Signature -Favorite/Coolest Avatar -Favorite Username

I inadvertently lost the subforum link to where one can nominate. Can you give me the link so I can go there and see who has been nominated?

After the software shift, will the thread links still be valid, or will links to other threads be borked? I know that some forum software now incorporates the thread title into the link; I don't know if the new software will do that, but it might also use a different numbering system. Also, will the [thread][/thread] tags still work?

so I cam here and tried to post in politics and it's NOT WORKING. do you have some liberal elite who can post in politics? that is WRONG just tonight I found out obama has not even met the CEO of BP and THE LAW says he is responsible for cleaning up the oil spill, not BP and there is a $75 mil limit on the money BP should spend at which point it's OBAMA whould should clean up the oil and OBAMA is not doing anything and this is a huge problem. but I guess there are a bunch of liberal elites here who do not want to talk about these topics

Hello! I'm a student at Oxford University currently studying Philosophy and Law. I find myself learning small percentages of other subjects, due to the nature of conversation in a 'universities environment'. I live in a rented detached abode - with six room-mates; we all have our own opinions on life and delve into our imaginations to answer many of the unanswered questions, for self-fulfilment. We were browsing 4c, and it lead us here; more directly towards the 'Speculation' section. We also noticed that 99% of all threads made in that section are immediately over-run with moderators and administrators - who immediately dismiss any idea when, to their knowledge, …

Sorry, I don't know how to do that, the images are on Wikipedia and I only post the link to them. If a mod can do it and/or someone explain how I could make them smaller when linking to them I would be grateful. Is it possible to somehow rescale images while linking to them without uploading or editing the images themself? Would be great with such an option since a lot of pictures are to big to fit well into the forum posts.

I've been getting a lot more spam than usual and the spam filter hasn't been catching it. It would be a big deal (since I haven't been able to update, really at all) but every time I get a new comment I get a notification sent to my email address. Its kind of a pain dealing with 10+ new junk mails every day to my inbox. Is there a way to either raise the filter strength or stop sending notifications to my email? I looked through the wordpress toolbox/ settings and I can't seem to find out how to do it. thanks

While posting a thread on the upcoming Egyptology Exhibit at the Franklin Institute I realised that there was nowhere to post that sort of information. Perhaps a sub heading in General Discussion? Like the Book Sub forum? In this case it was Egyptology, but I dare say people would be interested in art collections that are touring and that type of thing. Perhaps a museum opening a new wing? We wouldn't want High School Science fairs or pop star tours, but important exhibits in their field would be of interest to members and they might not hear about otherwise. Just a suggestion.

I think it would be nice if this forum had an environmental board to discuss issues like this By Captain Paul Watson "On the beach on San Juan Island, Washington, Allison Lance walks her dogs every morning. She carries a plastic bag in her hand to carry the bits and pieces of plastic debris she picks up. Each morning she fills the bag, but by the next morning there is always another bag to be filled. Joey Racano does the same in Huntington Beach further south in California. The harvest of plastic waste is never-ending. Allison's and Joey's beaches, and practically every beach around the world is similarly cursed. Recently in the Galapagos I retrieved…
