There is a lot of misinformation on the internet that references “studies” that have been debunked my science. There is also the fact that science isn’t infallible and has history has shown what science believe to be good for you today, could later turn out to be bad for you. I believe in this case vaccines have proven they work, and they are good science, but their effectiveness means that the risk is much lower to be exposed and therefore need the vaccine is lower as well. We’ve recently seen cases of preventable illness come back into America after years without a case. I’m a supporter of freedom, but I want what’s best for our society as well. Laws about s…

Will humans ever treat other animals with the care and respect they deserve as the human population becomes more humane in time? What do you think? Is it inevitable that the human population will treat other animals as good as how we treat other human beings?

Prior to starting any romantic relationship with the opposite gender, is it always best to reveal each other's insecurities and character flaws or is is best to ignore them and leave them to be brought up later and only once a relationship has already commenced? If the latter, when you have reached how far into the relationship should you tell your partner about your own shortfalls/negative traits? If you tell/admit to the partner about your negative traits/insecurities/personality problems in the beginning, would this imply that you want them to accept you for who you are and not have them try to change you? If not, do you think your partner would think t…

If you could, would you do it? What are some things we need to consider before doing something like this? If there is no diversity in the gene pool of the extinct animal, would scientists be able to increase the mutation rate of the cloned animal (e.f. Mammoth, neanderthal, Tasmanian tiger, dodo etc.) to increase their genetic diversity and thereby improve their genetic fitness overtime?

I came here because science is always best. I obsessed over "the mystery method" and "the game" and "rules of the game" "the layguide" Neuro-linguistic programming, all of it. I decided I would master it all when I was 14 and by 23 I mastered it all. I taught a class on the mystery method to over 100 guys with notebooks and pencils and questions. She knows all of this and, with every new girl she hears about, she always believes that I'm cheating or that I have ulterior motives. I can't blame her, I did it to myself, but it's been years since then. I'm not a cheater. How do I settle this once and for all?

If the concept of "race" does not exist than how can companies like national geographic, 23andme, ancestry dna, my family tree and others process your dna to find your ethnic heritage (e.g. 40% east asian, European Jewish, polynesian etc.)? Obviously, east asians are different genetically from Africans due to suffering from a bottleneck many, many generations ago after leaving Africa and from having neanderthal/denisovan dna and having mutations here and there from time to time as they migrated out of Africa. Africans are more genetically diverse than Europeans, asians, native Americans and australian aborigines and Pacific islanders and others who left Africa. …

Not sure if this is the appropriate section, have considered "Politics" , though I think "Ethics" is alright. --- EU Piracy Report Suppression Raises Questions Over Transparency One of the most important aspects of online piracy is whether it affects sales. So, when the EU Commission spends 360,000 euros on a study to find out, one might think it would be useful to publish the results. Instead, Member of the European Parliament Julia Reda had to jump through hoops to obtain them. Why all the secrecy? After the USSR collapsed, some things do not make sense. The atomic bomb emerged as a prevention against Nazi Germany. Then because of the arms race that was a measure of power between US and USSR thousands of bombs were produced. And now? All atomic bombs in the world should be turned off. Surveyor from neutral countries like Sweden etc. should be sent to the countries that have the atomic bomb to verify their deactivation.

If charity solves problems short term but increases or creates new problems on a longer term..do you think that's 'good' charity? Do you support such charity? A lot (not all of course) of charity helps the recipient with their problem, but it doesn't do much to deal with the causes of that problem. It's like this saying: "Don't give a person a fish, teach him or her how to fish". Combating poverty involves slow processes of political, cultural and social change, with many stakeholders, significant opposition and serious issues of self-determination and coercion to be navigated. This concerns imo a very important and big ethical conundrum. Should people spend time …

What do you think about tipping people in restaurants or coffeeshops? When I traveled through Canada and USA I only tipped when the service was very good...not very often. I tipped when my drink got refilled or if the waitresses were pretty women/girls with an open decolleté. Why would I tip a person only for bringing my food from the kitchen? It's imo a way for the boss to pay its servants less...which keeps tipping alive.

A definition of Ethics 1.moral principles that govern a person's behavior or the conducting of an activity. "medical ethics also enter into the question" synonyms: moral code, morals, morality, values, rights and wrongs, principles, ideals, standards (of behavior), value system, virtues, dictates of conscience "your so-called newspaper is clearly not burdened by a sense of ethics" 2. the branch of knowledge that deals with moral principles. A definition of Moral 1.a lesson, especially one concerning what is right or prudent, that can be derived from a story, a piece of information, or an experience. "the moral of this story was that one must see the beau…

I just finished reading a physics textbook. The last paragraph mentions the anthropic principle and ends with (quickly translated) "A poet would say that the universe was adjusted very precisely, almost as if it was meant for our habitation." Is that acceptable? What business is it of a physics textbook, clearly meant for education, to push forward such contested, theistic, world view without nuance? It doesn't even mention the possibility of manyworld interpretations or other multiverse concepts which render the anthropic principle trivial and irrelevant. Otherwise the book adheres very closely to established science. The only other diversion was a paragraph abou…

I am Anti-Humanist because humans seem to always want to defend their garbage world, garbage humans, and evil society. If I say it is wrong to put animals in cages, instead of getting support I get arguments and fallacies of how one or two animals return their cages, (completely ignoring the fact of Stockholm syndrome and how it isno different than women brainwashed to return to their abusive boyfriends.) If I say don't support China, people will say "Support China" even though China tortures dogs. 9/10 on any forum, if anyone complains they don't have any love in their life, instead of support they will either patronize them or blame them or riducule them. …

Iam most proud of anything I have ever done in My life in the fact that I have saved six lives all at different times and all from drowning, one of these people even bullied Me when were young and I still pulled Him out of the water. If there are only Human Beings on this planet how can other Human Beings be so cruel to others and treat them like they do. Absolutely every problem on this planet could be corrected in a better way by scientists and science rather than by belligerance and those that seem to like it. I honestly can't comprehend that Man-Kind alone could become so "Evil". I realise there are many amazing minds on here so please explain to Me why all the terrib…

What is the difference between killing an animal for fun and killing one for food? What is the difference between hurting or offending someone for fun or doing it for spite or doing it out of hate. The only way a society can be truly happy is if nothing goes or if anything goes. The problem with drawing lines is that people will always want to move them and other people will always want to cross them. For the record, I don't find jokes about anything offensive. I just find them distasteful and a cheap unintelligent way of making money. Anyone that needs to make these jokes is either fucked up mentally or is so greedy they'll do anything for money. I also find the ki…
