Hey guys , So some Muslim people say that the prayer is scientifically healthy and I wanted to check if that is true. I looked for some source in google scholar and I didn't find any. I looked in google and found this website " https://www.heighpubs.org/jnpr/jnpr-aid1020.php " and I wanna know if this source is reliable or not since it is not my speciality

can we say that the bold curve shows the hearable treshold at the same time? for instance the sound specigically in these intervals are not hearable by human's ear. between 0-40 dB and between 0-50 hertz. after 10.000 hertz and between 0-18 hertz. and could someone provide more contexts about hearable sounds (diagrams, graphs with numeric parameters would be great)? thanks

  3. I am a graduate student majoring in math. I hope to master some medical science knowledge at some higher level, as in medical schools. I do not expect myself to be a doctor. Still, I am eager to develop some insight into human physiology and pathology. In particular, I am mostly interested in pharmacology, neurology, cardiology, and ophthalmology. I list below some general questions that are always in my mind. I would feel very, very grateful if anyone can give me some suggestions. I have been learning organic chemistry and physiology at Khan Academy since January of this year. I also watch videos on a Youtube channel called Speed Pharmacology. I find these …

If the estimated count of those infected from flu last flu season was 1 billion and the estimated flu death count(the highest i've read) is 650,000, how are they coming up with a flu death rate of .1% shouldn't it be less than that? and if it is does that mean the covid-19 death rate is being calculated wrong as well? Dr Fauci on the news said the flu death rate is .1% and covid-19 is .4% "Influenza is a highly contagious respiratory illness that is responsible for significant morbidity and mortality. Approximately 9% of the world’s population is affected annually, with up to 1 billion infections, 3 to 5 million severe cases, and 300,000 to 500,000 death…

Hello! I have a question regarding H1-antihistamines. It is said, that first generation antihistamines are used to treat nausea because they can cross the blood-brain-barrier and reach the vomiting centre. However, I read that the vomiting centre is not protected by the blood-brain-barrier. So is the ability to cross the blood-brain-barrier irrelevant for H1-antihistamines? Greetings, Aconitin

Hello everybody, I'm wondering what study design i'm using in the following case. I also give my thoughts but correct me if i'm wrong. In our city a public health intervention is implemented on half the Primary schools in order to prevent children for obesity and to let them engage in physical activity. Now for my study I will investigate the long term effects of this intervention program by several outcome variables. I compare adolescence children in Secondary school that did participate in the intervention program with adolescence children in Secondary school that did not participate in the intervention program several years ago in their Primary school. I will…

A friend of mine has decided that he is not going to give his baby vaccinations. From what he tells me from his research he claims that vaccines are not required and may cause autism. I did a quick google and from what I can see most of the medical evidence suggests that vaccines are usually have very mild side effects. It was stated that perhaps one baby in a million might suffer an allergic reaction to vaccines. What are your thoughts on vaccines and autism ? If people have been misguided where did these rumours come from ?

This came up in another thread. The documentary below is pretty self explanatory, but it's an hour long. The subject of High Fructose Corn Syrup is getting mentioned more and more in health publications, and the overall opinion is that it's one of the worst things that we eat, followed closely by table sugar from sugar beet. The documentary I'm posting here is actually quite entertaining, as well as interesting, so I can recommend watching it right through, if you have the time. Barring that, a quick google produces a wealth of info, almost all of it critical, of the High Fructose Corn Syrup that most of us are eating without knowing it. https://ww…

What are your thoughts on "big pharma"conspiracy theories ? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Pharma_conspiracy_theory Are the FDA really hiding the natural cures as they do not want us to know about ? Are pharmaceutical companies suppressing negative research about their drugs by financially pressuring researchers and journals ?

So we as a society have categorized weight into "underweight," "healthy," and "overweight." We assume there is an interval of weight that is healthier, in and of itself, than weight above or below it. However, what I'm left wondering is; how do we distinguish the effects of weight itself from the high cholesterol that often happens to; but does not always; correlate with it? I was once underweight. I tried to put on the weight by eating a lot of fatty foods; ones that happened to be especially high, however, in saturated fats. That left me with high cholesterol while I was still underweight. It stands to reason that one can be overweight with low c…

I have been trying to simulate a neuron for a self project to improve on my skills as a circuit designer, however I am having trouble understanding the circuit for a neuron. below is the circuit model The way I am interpreting it is the 2 variable resistors are actually potentiometers and the are, I think, self regulating or tuned by a user and the input and output currents are the overall neurons models input and outputs. However what I do not understand is how this leads to the neuron actually firing. Much help would be appreciated.

If you're unfamiliar with it, microneedling is a proceedure used for skin rejuvenation (including removing scars) and hair loss. A device is used to create many many tiny needle puncture wounds on the skin or the scalp. It's something htat is becoming increasingly popular, but it seems to me, with my limited knowledge, that there might be some cancer concerns here through two distinct mechanisms: 1) What is described here starting with the header "Dermarolling May Trigger Tumor Formation" 2) generation of new hair follicles through stem cells When used on the scalp, microneedling induces the creation of new hair follicles through stem cell division. From…

This issue has long been an obsession of mine, since before I even really had an accurate understanding of what it was. I used to think embryonic stem cells came from aborted fetuses; yet I get angry when hearing others spread the exact same myth. (For the record, for anyone reading, they come from in vitro fertilizations or from cloned embryos.) To avoid falling into the same sort of trap as before, I want to make sure I know what I'm talking about amidst an issue left murky by controversy. A. One popular talking point against embryonic stem cell research is that because other stem cells have (supposedly) gotten better results. Firstly, aren't they supposed t…

... is the title of a Discovery Channel documentary my wife and I recently discovered and purchased. It is about the NIH Clinical Center, Building 10, the largest research hospital in the world and, unfortunately, one of our best kept secrets IMO. This documentary is the first time the NIH allowed a camera crew to follow 4 patients, from admission through final treatments, as the patients sought final option care. I thought it was a very well done, often times moving production. I highly recommend it.

In many psuchiatric/neurodevelopmental disorders extensive loss of grey matter and damage to white matter tracts is clearly present. In schizophrenia thinning of grey matter all across the brain is extensive, it can reach as much as 25% in some regions. What would be some potential strategies to restore lost grey matter? There is almost no neurogenesis in adult human brain outside a small part of hippocampus.

  24. Im doing a research assignment for school in biology. I was told by my tutor that a good experiment to do would be charcoals effect on preventing the absorption on aspirin in which i would get participants to split into two groups (maybe more division later but this it the basic idea), have both groups take a single dose of aspirin but one group ingesting activated charcoal straight after, and then testing urine for signs of aspiring. I like the idea of this experiment and have access to the right reading to be able to write a lab report and discussion to follow this, but I had an idea to edit the experiment by testing the effectiveness of other edible adsorptive substanc…

I clicked on this expecting to watch a couple of seconds of it, but I ended up watching it right through which is rare for me. It follows the mystery of where syphilis came from. Did it come from the Americas, as has long been thought, or did we give it to the Americas ? There's plenty of proper scientific detective work on off in the documentary. The answer given in the film is interesting, and the film also gives an insight into the horrendous suffering that people went through in the past, and how lucky we are, to have modern health care. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I found it well worth a watch : Apologies if there is some rule against re…
