https://pagesix.com/2022/03/28/judd-apatow-says-will-smith-could-have-killed-chris-rock/ What is the probability that one slap could have caused someone to lose their balance, fall, and hit their head in a life-endangering manner? How does this compare to, let's say, every day risks like the risk of driving, or not-as-everyday risks like the risks of getting hit by lightning when standing outside in a thunderstorm?

In short - one person whom I know from another forum is a long term advocate of research on gut microbiome and fecal microbiota transplantation - it's an exciting area of study that will help treat a wide variety of human diseases in the future. He's a disabled person with little financial resources and has been advocating on various science- and disease-related places on the internet for years but was met with either hostility or apathy. He would welcome any kind of help but currently, his main goal is to get as many people from the US to e-mail the Congresspeople. This is his letter to US legislators, summarizing his work: https://forum.humanmicrobiome.info/threads/the-…

Perhaps my search of the literature has been inadequate, but as best as I can tell, the situation with metronidazole is that it was conclusively demonstrated to be carcinogenic in animals, genotoxic in humans in vitro and in vivo and "reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen" and in spite of this, the drug continues to be in wide use with seemingly no urgency to run a study to settle the question of its carcinogenic potential in humans. Am I missing something or is this insane? You can maybe say there's no evidence of carcinogenicity in humans, but absence of evidence is not evidence that it's not carcinogenic, not if adequately powered, well designed st…

Smoking being a tough habit to get rid of, the smoker must take the abundant Help to quit smoking. He must choose the right method for quitting smoking suitable to him. There are a number of methods to quit smoking. One among them is the nicotine tapering method. Nicotine tapering is also known as nicotine fading method. In this method the smoker reduces smoking gradually and finally gives up smoking completely on a particular quit date. The principle behind this method is that the lesser the amount of nicotine in the body, the lesser is the smoker addicted to cigarettes. As he gradually reduces the number of cigarettes, his addiction to nicotine also reduces and it be…

What is it about internet forums that attracts control freaks as moderators? Is it the sense of POWER they feel possessing the 'banned' 'suspended' buttons? Do they enjoy total control because they have none over anyone in the real world? Were they robbed of a happy childhood, had an unhappier teen age hood, moved up to a miserable adulthood? Why can't they control their vicious instincts? Should they seek psychiatrict help or go to a churh where they will hear words like "Love" "Truth" "Honesty." Posters on this forum, we need to have compassion for these moderators. They can't seem to help themselves, so let's help them through prayers. A look at the list of b…

What has caused STIs to reach epidemic and record levels in 2018? Is it the water we drink? The air we breathe? Dirty toilet seats? (CNN)Rates of syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia have climbed for the fourth consecutive year in the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Tuesday at the National STD Prevention Conference in Washington. Last year, nearly 2.3 million US cases of these sexually transmitted diseases were diagnosed, according to preliminary data. That's the highest number ever reported nationwide, breaking the record set in 2016 by more than 200,000 cases, acco…

Hi all, My question is this: Can we ever hope to fully understand the brain when the most powerful tool in our possesion is the brain itself? Also, much of the brain is inaccessable to us consciously. Can a system (such as the brain) be "pointed" at itself? I'm struggling to phrase this correctly... but you guys are intelligent enough to get my gist.

I work from home so during this whole ordeal the world's been having with COVID, I've been blissfully and irresponsibly ignoring it, but now I've been called up to take the Pfizer vaccine, so I actually have to educate myself a bit. I've been watching this video on data from Israel about side effects associated with the Pfizer vaccine (which I'll link to at the bottom) and they mention severe side effects (but don't specify beyond that), albeit very rare. Now, I'm thinking, the vaccine has at this point been tested on a large number of people, but without long term followup, whereas the virus has been "tested" on an enormous amount of people and been given a dec…

Hi I'm not sure I'm in the right forum for this (perhaps the biology forum would've been better?) but it seems like there are a few discussions here about what is and isn't good for our health, so, here goes: I've been drinking milk regularly since I was a little girl. I Loooooove milk, I used to drink about 2-3 glasses (more or less) a day, sometimes more. Lately, I drink less (specifically since I don't quite like the milk in America, it tastes a bit 'plasticky' to me, but it's a matter of preference I guess). Recently, I poured myself a glass of milk at work and a friend of mine looked at me and exclaimed that milk is NOT actually healthy for us humans, th…

Hello, I'm looking for substitutes to caffeine. A friend told me that vegetable juices raise one's alkaline levels. Raised alkaline levels are supposed to increase oxygen levels and higher energy levels. Is any of this true? Are there other substitutes to caffeine for raising one's energy levels and alertness?

Hello everyone's, I come here anticipating an argument I will inevitably have with my very religious in-laws once my fiancé and I decide to have a child. I can foresee us arguing about whether or not my future child ought to be circumsized. Are there any real health benefits for having this surgery done? Besides the small hygiene benefits? Or isn't it a purely religious practice that somehow caught on to be the norm? I see it as unnecessary and cruel.

Recently there was a freedom of information request for the Japanese government to release data on the Pfizer vaccine. That request yielded bio-distribution data on the lipid nanoparticles that carry the mRNA in the body. I will post a chart which summarizes the data from the FOIA request and also the report itself (Japanese and English). My question is, looking at this bio-distribution data which shows large concentrations of the lipid nanoparticles collecting in the bone marrow and ovaries post vaccination, what long term potential side effects might be anticipated in individuals who received the Pfizer vaccine? Summary of bio-distribution of lipid nanopar…

Vitamin B17 was the topic of great controversy over 30 or so years ago when some of the worlds top scientists claimed that when consumed the components of the seed make it 100 % impossible to develop cancer and will kill existing cancer in the most cases. Who here heard about this? As you may know Vitamin BH17 is found in most fruit seeds, manely Apricot seeds. The pharmacuticals companies together with the medical establishments pushed the FDA into making it ilegal to sell 'raw' apricot seeds or vitamin B17 with information about it's effects on cancer. Even to this day you cant get raw apricot seeds in your health food store only the sun dried ones which have all t…

http://www.ecorazzi.com/2015/02/26/study-sugar-is-eight-times-more-addictive-than-cocaine/ And just, if not more, dangerous to our health, yet one is illegal and the other is freely advertised/promoted ubiquitously throughout the world. Is the mighty dollar really so powerful as to seduce the world with such a drug and are we all equally culpable; given our collective need to accumulate imagined wealth?

This is kind of an idiotic question, and I really don't belong on this forum as I'm only fourteen and have next to no knowledge of Science, but is it possible to see a certain kind of color blindness using something, or to erase color blindness? Because someone I know sees green as yellow and yellow as green and I want to see what they see, or for them to see normally. I know there's EnChroma glasses they can wear to, I think, correct their vision.. but I don't know. Sorry if I sound stupid..

I overall understand that mammography as a whole tends to be a very intimate subject, and that the majority of people with breast cancer or female. But why are so many men avoiding it completely, or are discouraged from entering the specific area of that field? Urology is primarily male dominated, but women are encouraged to enter the field (Which I support 100%) Why not encourage men to enter radiology considering there is a shortage?

I was shocked to find recently that there is apparently a lot of animal and some human data showing that antibiotics have a negative effect on male fertility. Given how serious this is, I couldn't believe this isn't more widely known and I was even more shocked at how little human data there is, again, given the seriousness. Does anyone know whether these effects are permanent? From the review I'm currently reading, it seems the effects usually last a long time post-treatment (weeks or months) and whether they are permanent or not is usually not answered due to how short the followup is. But certainly, the effects will usually still be present many weeks post-tr…

Hello to all, I do not have any background in medical or science field and therefor this question may sound rather naïve to you guys. I hope you would tolerate my ignorance and shed some light on something that has been in my mind for a long time. My understanding is the fastest transmission of nerve signals is about 268 miles per hour or just about 120m/s. The transmission of nerve impulses from the hair cells may be much lower than the figures mentioned here. Leaving that aside, let's take 120m/s as the speed of nerve impulses (SIC) from the ears hearing mechanism to the brain for the purpose of this question. Now, if sound waves travel at 340 m/s then when …

What I hate most is perhaps people making money by fabricating ridiculous ailments, manufacturing ridiculous products is no where near as ethically wrong. Examples of these somewhat ridiculous ailments proclaimed by the medical society are ADD (attention deficit disorder), CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome), depression, and dyslexia. To the medical society the universe is perfect and so should every human being, anytime a little thing is wrong with more than one person they call it a condition. These guys, these pretentious professionals declaring such flabbergasting ailments do not realize they are perhaps the least competitive and productive of all professionals. Engineers,…
