  1. Just found something easy and useful. To quote extracts of a post: highlight the desired section and and a little "quote this" label shows up. Click that, you then have a a named and time-stamped quote in your input box.

  2. Do you realise that all that has been cited before- and every bit of it has been discredited as "science"? So, for example, "Do not the unbelievers see that the heavens and the earth were joined together" What does "heavens" mean? " We made from water every living thing…" (21:30)." It's the bits that are not water that do all the living. " All (the celestial bodies) swim along, each in its rounded course" (" There's nothing to swim in. Swimming implies a deliberate desire to get from one place to another. And so on. Please don't waste time rehashing arguments that have already been lost. There really is nothing in any scripture that counts as evidence.

  4. ! Moderator Note OK - Last chance. I asked everyone to be nice and stick to the topic, I asked for no more proselytizing and quoting of bare verses from books. And now we are way off topic and we are still getting verses of a holy book quoted. On topic from now on.

  5. Actually what doesn't make sense is the OP and your own continuation posts defending that same nonsense. Firstly as others have told you, the universe has no center to speak of, except the center of our observable universe, and the centers of any other species' observable universe no matter where they be. The BB occurred everywhere at the same time, because everywhere was packed within the Singularity from whence the BB arose. Singularity in this case means the level of spacetime [the quantum/Planck level] at which as yet we do not have a meaningful description. Your apparent definition of a BH also appears somewhat askew. A BH is simply a result of where a mass is squeezed to beyond its Schwarzchild limit. Also the BB was a "Singularity" of spacetime, while a BH is a Singularity in spacetime. At this time the universe has been observed to be accelerating in its expansion rate, simply because it has reached a stage where the large scale gravitational attraction due to the constant mass/energy density, is gradually and continually being overcome by a vacuum energy component that we call DE and whose effects has been felt for around 5 billion years. Note at this time, that isolated regions of the universe/spacetime, in which mass/energy density is still relatively high, [like our local group of galaxies and other isolated groups of galaxies] are decoupled from this overall expansion rate due to gravity. We can go further down the scale then to isolated bodies within the galaxies, like stars, planets etc...These are held together by the other forces as well as gravity, like the EMF, and strong and weak nuclear forces. While certainly at this time, other explanations are sometimes offered, the above "Lambda CDM model" appears to fit the evidence best and is generally the one accepted and best fits within the framework of GR. You do not have a theory in any scientific sense...You have an unsupported hypothesis that you seemed to have dreamed up, based on some misunderstandings.

  6. I wouldn't say that, I think Christianity is just as regressive as Islam. It's just that with the presumably more secular and peaceful leaning mindset, there is more respect for Christianity than Islam, although I know that both can be interpreted in a hideous way, one lean towards that a little more.

  8. Sure. The moment the reports of terrorism stops, Sharia laws stopped being taken so seriously, the sexism of woman ceases, and when it's some other radicals blowing things up. The reason it's not respected is mostly due to the terrorism thing. I personally think Islam has some undesirable elements in it, and just like the Bible but what makes Islam more, in a sense, radical is that Christians don't really believe eating shellfish is betraying the command of God or stealing equals death and working on the day of Sabbath deserves a brutal punishment. It's just a little side notes in the book that no one really cares about, because Jesus, with all the "turn the other cheeks", and getting crucified altruism bits overshadows all those things as compared to the Islamic Prophet being a conqueror, one just seems a little more...intense.

  9. No. They don't. Just to pick the most obviously scientific one. The Quran tells us nothing about the cosmos a except a few things known to be false. (Hint: it wasn't made in 6 days). There are other books that tell us about old cultures. Many of them avoid the biases inherent in a religious text. So, outside of the realms of fantasy and made-up stuff, What Islam has done to deserve respect?

  10. OK I asked what Islam has done to deserve respect. Not the people who follow Islam, nor any other faith or its followers. Unless you are answering that question then you are going off at a tangent. So, once again. What Islam has done to deserve respect?

  11. A series of random unconnected assertions does not constitute a "logical proof". Your argument seems to be: the universe can be described mathematically therefore god. That makes zero sense.

  12. I'm a big fan of boxplots for this type of data, although you have small enough samples that you can just plot each point directly. What kind of analysis do you intend to do once you've removed the outliers? Are you trying to test for significant differences, or model the data somehow? I ask because, to me as a statistician, there isn't really such a thing as an "outlier". Unless some data points arise from a mistake in the experiment, they're all real measurements from the true distribution of possible outcomes. Removing some data can be valid for analysis, but it depends on what your goals are. I'd be able to give better advice if I knew what you were trying to achieve.

  13. That's better, but I would start by plotting the course of 6 individual trials of the reaction. That is rearrange your data properly so it doesn't look as if you have mixed up the reading from flask 1 with flask 3 etc. I say this because the in first entry 2 minute row is 14.1 Yet the first entry in the 10 minute row is 8 suggesting the reaction went backwards.

  15. What are the error characteristics of your measurement system? You have 6 data points. Are they all supposes to be a repeat measurement of the others? With the information you've posted and only 6 data points it's impossible to give any good advice. (with the possible exception of repeat the experiment some more)

  16. Likewise, there have been Ternary(base-3) computers(0, 1, 2). Fortunately, OP, you have plenty of time to flesh out your reasoning and thought processes. Classes and independent study would definitely be worthwhile to pursue.

  17. Is Mary Winehouse a bastard mix of Amy Winehouse and Mary Whitehouse? A great soulful voice who sings about censorship and the decline of family values if you sit in quiet room and listen to your favourite tune on FM radio, DAB radio, tape, cd, bad encrytion, good encryption, etc. You will notice a difference but you pay your money and take your choice of where you draw the balance between money and fidelity.

  18. Are you being deliberately obtuse? The people deserve respect, just like anyone else. Their religion doesn't- unless, you can finally show that it did something worthy of respect.

  21. Bollocks. No, you don't. That's harassment, and is illegal. Again, your idea of respect is different from mine. I expect you've been in a number of restaurants run by Christians, and I doubt any of them overtly expected you to say grace. (It's not required in Chick-fil-A, for example). To require this would be against the law. More bollocks. You can tell someone to get of your property without it being disrespect. Asserting your rights is not disrespect. You seem to be equating respect with kowtowing. Forgive me if I don't take your word for what Islam expects of people. Respecting a religion — that others are allowed to believe what they will (i.e. accepting the first amendment) does not mean you have to believe the same things. Similarly you can respect someone's right to free speech without having to agree with what they say. Disagreement is not disrespect. Obsequiousness is not respect.

  23. Dissociative conditions are highly relevant to hypnotism. Dissociative identity disorder (DID) patients and other dissociative patients tend to be "highly hypnotizable". https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19197715 Usually occurring during depression and lasting weeks to months, the dissociative fugue patient forgets personally identifying information and begins to identify as someone new. They may even change their manner of speaking. While in the fugue state, she impulsively attempts to start a new life somewhere else, until one day she switches back to the primary personality, suddenly and simultaneously regaining her old memories and forgetting the memories of the alter ego, resulting in an experience informally termed "time loss". Nonetheless the memories of the fugue episode can persist, and she may recover them at a later time. People with dissociative identity disorder (DID), who usually underwent severe abuse as children, will continually alternate between these identities for the rest of their lives. Dissociative fugue and DID are examples of "compartmentalizing" symptoms. Alas, repressed memories remain an elusive and controversial matter among scientists, and DID no less so. http://www.healthyplace.com/abuse/dissociative-identity-disorder/dissociative-identity-disorder-controversy-is-did-real/ I imagine compartmentalizing is related to the way long-term memory works. New, incoming information cannot be embedded in long-term memory unless the subject somehow relates it to old information. It's as if our long-term memories exist as a web, with perception "triggering" a part of that web which leads to an activation of that region of the web. "Trigger" is a term used in PTSD to denote situational themes that remind the patient of the trauma and activate his PTSD thereby. I'll try to create a speculative hypothesis from this. It's as if the DID patient somehow constructs two or more independent webs of memories that have few connections inbetween and therefore rarely activate simultaneously. Hypnosis requires single-pointed concentration, which maybe perhaps could lead the subject to drown out irrelevant or even traumatic information while they focus on that one single thing. Perhaps hypnotizable people are capable of forging distinct states of mind that they can "alternate" between depending on what information they need on hand at the moment. ?

  24. At the risk of incurring the wrath of the mods, you need to read the Bible: Matthew 5:17 et seq. But this isn't the place for saying that "religion A is better then religion B because..." so please don't respond here

  25. The difference is that science books get updated. Islam hasn't been, in spite of the many discoveries made since it was written. - that rather undermines it's respectability as a source of information.

  29. "Behold! In the creation of the heavens and the earth; in the alternation of the night and the day; in the sailing of ships through the ocean, for the profit of mankind; in the rain which Allah sends down from the skies, and the life which He gives therewith to an earth that is dead; in the beasts of all kinds that He scatters through the earth; in the change of the winds, and the clouds which they trail like their slaves between the sky and the earth; here indeed are Signs for a people that are wise" (Quran 2:164) "Do not the unbelievers see that the heavens and the earth were joined together, then We split them apart? And We made from water every living thing…" (21:30). "It is He Who created the night and the day, and the sun and the moon. All (the celestial bodies) swim along, each in its rounded course" (21:33). "It is not permitted for the sun to catch up to the moon, nor can the night outstrip the day. Each just swims along in its own orbit" (36:40). "He created the heavens and the earth in true proportions. He makes the night overlap the day, and the day overlap the night. He has subjected the sun and the moon to His law; each one follows a course for a time appointed..." (39:5). "The sun and the moon follow courses exactly computed" (55:5).
