Hello, I have been given a puzzle to pass on to people who may be able to solve it. Here it is: It doesn’t matter where it comes from I’m just an intermediary… Perhaps someone here will be able to solve it? Unfortunately there is no financial reward for solving it And apparently the solution tells us something new about black holes But I don’t know what I am not a mathematician or a scientist so it means nothing to me

A simple riddle! Well, okay maybe not so simple. I'm going to give you good people a senario, i want you to tell me how it came about (im looking for alot of info, the how, why, where all that good stuff). The Riddle! A gentleman walks into a resteraunt and orders turtle soup, has one taste, and the leaves. Why? The Rules 1. I may only answer yes, or no to any question asked. 2. If you know the answer to this then please dont spoil it for the other members. 3. Please dont google, it ruins the fun. Also please consider that i wont be able to instantly reply, be patient. And this may take a while, the answer is very complex!

I'm not sure about who gave me this, but I've never seen it solved. Maybe you guys have, so here it goes: Connect a line from each of the three squares to each of the three circles (nine lines in all) without crossing or going "under" or "above" a line. I believe the original brain teaser was phrased "Three houses need a gas line, water line, and electricity line, and all must be on the same plane underground." You'd be best not to try and solve it; I did, and I can't find any solution. If there is one, you either know it or you don't. But go ahead and try if you think you can.

This is a thread where each poster gives a riddle or an answer to a previous riddle. I'll start it off with a simple riddle. There are at least two answers that I know of. What can you put in a barrel and make it lighter (can't remove the air and add a lighter composition of air or add a container of gas.)?

Hi everyone, Here is a question I first encountered in 2002. It was from the website http://www.highiqsociety.org/. Since then, they have taken the test that had this particular question down. Here is the question: Note: At first, Planck was spelled "Plank," but the webmaster at the original website stated that "Plank" was a typo (as stated on another forum - see below). Also, there may be some dispute about the spelling of "Block" (Bloch???) and Lippman (Lippmann???). Okay... my first thought was that this is an easy problem to solve. Simple linear algebra... right? This has proven to be a real bi*ch though.... An old (2002) discussion f…

This isn't really a puzzle as there is no answer but it's generated an interesting line of debate before... I have a spherical ball. It is made of plastic and it is hollow. It is also blue. Is it more blue than it is spherical?

Here's a fun game that everyone can play. One person starts with a riddle, and gives everyone a week to try to guess the answer. Whoever guesses first gets to post their own riddle, and it goes on and on. If no one can get the riddle after a week, the answer will be posted along with a new riddle. Here's the starter: You use a knife to cut my head then weep beside when I am dead

A total of only 2 people are allowed on the raft at any given moment. The raft must travel back and forth across the river in order to pick up all of the people. Rules: You have the following people trying to cross a river: Father The father cannot stay with any of the daughters, without their Mother's presence. Mother The Mother cannot stay with any of the sons, without their Father's presence. Thief The thief cannot stay with any family member, if the policeman is not the…

There are 39 perfectly Spherical Metal Balls IDENTICAL to one another in Shape , Color and Weight. Except that just one of these Balls is DEFECTIVE and has a DIFFERENT WEIGHT compared to the Rest of the Balls. We don’t know whether this Defective Balls is HEAVIER or LIGHTER in Weight. We also don’t know which is this Ball out of the 39. We have Only a SIMPLE BLALANCE and nothing else to use [No Weight Units etc] Some of these Balls can by weighed in the scale against each other and any Inference taken counts for one Weighing ! In how many weighings can you detect the Defective Ball and what is the Procedure ? Remember, you need to also fin…

This is an old puzzle, but if you haven't seen it before it should make you think. You stand before two identical doors. On door leads to a long and rewarding life, the other door leads to sudden death. Before each door is a guardian who, if you ask him the correct question will tell you which door to take. However one guardian always lies and the other always tells the truth. You don't know which one lies. You are only allowed one question. You walk up to a guardian and ask him the one question you are allowed and he tells you which door to take. What is your question?

a Chemist friend of mine used to assign his pupils the task of making up words using the symbols from a periodic table, we`ve sat for ages playing this between us over a beer or 7, I thought I`de share some of the fun the task is to either A: make the largest word you can with them, or B: make the longest coherant sentence using them. this then can be split into 2 parts, 1: you can use the same symbol twice, or 2: you can only use them once! enjoy oh yeah, so far my best is "FrAcTiONAl" and "CrYSTaLiNe"

Hey people, how are you doing? I heard this couple days ago and tried to figure it out myself but I seem not to be able to:( It goes like this: |=|A cow and a goat eat all the grass of a pasture in 45 days. The (same) cow and a duck eat the grass in 60 days, and the duck and the goat east the grass in 90 days. The cow eats the same amount of grass as the duck and the goat together. But you have to take into consideration that new grass grows continuously.|=| At first I got 45 days, then I got 41.5... days but I think neither of them is the answer. Any suggestion?

Three men, one of them is blind. They walk into a pitch black room full of hats. All of the hats are black, but two are red. Not able to see which hat they are picking, each man chooses a random hat and puts it on. They then walk outside of the room and into the light. Guy 1 looks at the two other men. "I cannot see my hat, nor do I know what color it is. But I know what colours yours are." Guy 1 one says as he looks at the other two men. Guy 2 says the exact same thing. The blind man gets an epiphany. "I cannot see anything, but I know what color my hat is. As well as both of yours!" He says grinning. What color of hat is the blind man wearing, and h…

This one of those puzzles which some people get straight away but others spend ages over. It's called Mrs Tilly and you have to work out what Mrs Tilly likes and what she dislikes. Ok i'll start.... Mrs Tilly likes to giggle but not to laugh. Mrs Tilly likes to be seen but never heard. Mrs Tilly likes the Moon but not the Sun Mrs Tilly likes darkness but not the light Mrs Tilly likes the unnecessary and hates the ordinary. If you work it out add your own one.

In just FIVE minutes you should learn to quickly multiply up to 20x20 in your head. With this trick, you will be able to multiply any two numbers from 11 to 19 in your head quickly, without the use of a calculator. I will assume that you know your multiplication table reasonably well up to 10x10. Try this: Take 15 x 13 for an example. Always place the larger number of the two on top in your mind. Then draw the shape of Africa mentally so it covers the 15 and the 3 from the 13 below. Those covered numbers are all you need. First add 15 + 3 = 18 Add a zero behind it (multiply by 10) to get 180. Multiply the covered lower 3 x the single digit above i…

Hi everyone, thougt i would post this intersting one: 7 Sales executives have 1 million dollars to divide amongst themselves. The most senior sales executive propses a particular split and then everyone votes (each person's vote is equal). If at least 50% of the people accept, then the money is divided the way that was suggested. Otherwise the sales executive who propsed it gets fired...and then we move on to the next senior sales exec and the whole process repeats. The executives are rational (want to keep their jobs first and also get as much money as possible), and they also would prefer fewer executives in the group if given a choice (all else equal). How sho…
