Hi, If some stranger sneezes you in public (e.g. in a café), what is the appropriate response to this? Assume also that the person was angry at something that happened to him/her earlier that day and wanted to take out their anger out on someone when the opportunity came (but of course they pretend as if it was all unintentional). If this happened to you how would you react to the person who sneezed on you and what would you say to any bystanders/onlookers? How would your response differ depending on whether the offender was male or female? Thanks, Mr Rayon

Here at SFN I've found a common problem: People like to make things that needn't be complex, complex to make themselves look more knowledgeable on a topic. There are places where complexity is necessary, such as is the case with many explanations with large amounts of complex mathematical equations and explanations for those equations, but there are also places where complexity simply isn't necessary. One piece of advice on posting scientific threads on SFN is: Don't make things more complex than they need to be, Remember that the simplest explanations are not only the ones that will carry the most weight with your opponent in debate, but will be the easiest for all to un…

I just heard someone say that people used to refer to people with PTSD as shell shocked and that this was supposedly changed on grounds o political correctness or sensitivity, is that right? If so, what is the problem with shell shocked, what was the reasoning for why it needed to be changed?

Being a European I don't know squat about American football, but I noticed there are players that these teams have on their rosters who are called punters. Judging by wikipedia, it seems that all these guys do is punt the ball. Is that right? These guys don't participate in the game in any other way? Only kicking the ball at the start of the game and any time the team wants to punt?

Has anybody used Zyban (Buproprion) or Champix (Verenicline)? They probably have different names in other countries. I'd be interested in your experiences if you have. Edit: Zyban is Wellbutrin in the US. Champix is also called Chantix.

IQ Classifications in Educational Use. http://www.assessmentpsychology.com/iqclassifications.htm Very Superior above 130 Superior 120 to 129 High Average 110 to 119 Average 90 to 109 Low Average 80 to 89 Borderline 70 to 79 Extremely Low 69 Well it is obvious it will require skilled person doing the test to see what the person IQ is and a skilled person could pick up the difference. How many points does it have to be before it becomes obvious to non skilled person the general public to pick it up? Some one 72 with some one say 96 would NOT tell the difference? But some one 72 with some one 110 would tell the difference? And some one 72 with some…

Greetings. I have a question for all you mortals. I have been pondering if others are really afraid of death/dying, or if they are more like me, afraid of an accident or situation where you know the chances of instant death are not 100%, and you're more afraid of being seriously injured and surviving, that or having an accident where it leaves you in an immense amount of pain and the suffering you would go through before finally dying... Or even the thought of being permanently (mostly) disabled. If I am on a plane and we are way up high in a 747 traveling from one country to another for instance, if the wings were to suddenly snap off, that wouldn't really sc…

Suppose you could buy nano-wallpaper with embedded computers, display, speaker, microphone and internet connection that gives you the ability to decorate your walls however you wish. All you have to do is chat with an AI wallpaper app that tries to satisfy your wildest dream. Your AI handyman has just finished papering your walls; what would you have on them? My wallpaper will not always be the same, and decorations can change frequently. Most of the time it would show nature, a beautiful sky and conifer forest with a vista of distant mountains and critters living. At night the stars would shine. The handyman might 3D print a few accents to go with my most popular sce…

Hi everyone. This is Popcorn Sutton making an attempt at reinserting myself into this community. If that is not acceptable I completely understand. I just wanted to say hello and thank you for everything that you guys have done for me and all the time that was spent bouncing ideas off of each other. If it's ok, I would like to stick around for a while, although my time is much more restricted now that I have a big boy job. I'm awaiting speaking with the CEO and the VP of emerging technologies to see if they will give me the 'ok' to move forward with creating my political and AI programs. I am now being paid very well and am constantly reminded of the value that I …

Hello all! Wanted to hear opinions as to if you feel the various technologies in Star Trek or Star Wars are more plausible. Granted, they are all long shots, but which makes more sense to you all? For example, I feel that warp drive from Star Trek is more plausible than hyperspace in Star Wars. Also, this is just intended for fun, so please don't get too heated!

The powers that be, may lock me away tomorrow. I'm not sure which post it is I made on my own blog, most if it is just jibberish, but certain posts may have annoyed certain "powers" that be, and I may not come out walking from this one. This may very well be the very last post of any kind that I make as a free man, or alive, depending what transpires tomorrow. I'm still not sure what it is specifically that I had posted that made them decide to come after me, but... sh*t. I'm not sure how they made the connection to me (the real me) and my blog, but I must have posted something that got their attention. To be honest, 50% of the stuff I blog about is ju…

Hey, I have a passion for science and in particular I enjoy chemistry. I am only 15 but science classes at my school were always boring and the attitude of everyone there just about ruined them so I set off on an adventure of my own. Don't get me wrong though, I am definitely not an expert and thats why I'm here to learn. A few months ago I started a YouTube channel and I post educational science videos. It's as much of a learning experience for me as it is my viewers. It doesn't have many since I have been extremely busy however I am becoming more active and need advice/feedback. Before making a video I spend a few hours researching the topic as I'm paranoid about ge…

I went out today by myself to do a little collecting, first time out since my last surgery. My target species was Redfin Pickerel, but the prime collecting site is on private property and had a no trespassing sign up and the owner wasn't home to ask his permission so I didn't get to collect there. He had told me several years ago I was welcome to collect any time but now there is a fence and that was several years ago and I'm not sure the same guy lives there. No pickerels were caught. I did get the following species. Swamp Darter 1 Pirate perch 1 Blue spotted sunfish 3 Several gambusia with one black spotted male... Wait for it! Three tiny Sir…

I've heard the term "problem glasses" used to describe a type of glasses typically worn by regressive leftist, radical feminist, SJWy types, but don't know what kind of glasses these are or why they are called problem glasses. Can someone explain this?

Imatfaal Said: I shall take this on board. Thanks. Yes, they are rim v-brakes. Those "nasty" Clarks brakes are better than what came with the bike. £35 for a set of Swisstop Greens seems rather outrageous to me, at the moment, for four bits of coloured rubber. I've put Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres on. Do they pass muster? I have a hybrid bike for towning. From what I've read so far, rim brakes are fine for my purposes. I'm not aspiring to discs on this one; the forks aren't up to them anyway, I don't think. I've already read a few Sheldon Brown articles. I shall check out the others. Thanks. I have a vague idea of wanting to slowly replace all the bit…

I used to really like to watch ted talks and the youtube channel dnews. i also am a big fan of hermiony from the harry potter series. I like the actress who played her and now there are more social justice or feminist videos on ted talks, laci green who hosted dnews is a feminist and same with the actress who plays hermiony in harry potter. I think there is a good kind of feminist that is for equality but the represented in the media feminist is trying to give women more rights then men and they usually use all their arguments just to complain about something. these feminists are going along with the more radical feminists in the media. I just cant believe how so many peo…

So, yesterday, my father's estranged father passed away. When I say "estranged" I mean the absolute textbook version. My father's father (I refuse to say grandfather) was a womanizer, an alcoholic, abusive, and left my father and my grandmother when he was 14 or 15. Now at the age of 60, my father gets news of his father in the ICU, with kidney failure, and a slew of other things. He died later that day. I'm left here seeing how terrible, and sad it is, for this man to have abandoned his family, missing out on years of memories, never seeing his grandchildren or great grandchildren. He died alone, sick and without an ounce of care from anyone, except maybe the nursing…

Hi guys! I was wondering, are high IQ society's more of a bragging rights thing rather then someplace you can actually learn stuff? I have a IQ of 136 but I question the correctness of it because it simply means I'm logical from what I know. So high IQ societies are probably not going to teach anything at all really with the exception of some rare post and stuff, or am I wrong?

The lady who taught me how to read and write music is retiring this year. Without Mrs. Wood, I wouldn't be able to write the music that I do today. Great teachers are hard to find and, although we are in their lives for a brief period of time, their teachings remain with us forever. This is my 20th song, and it's dedicated to her. Enjoy!!!
