Pseudoscientific or speculatory threads belong here.

Speculations Forum Rules

The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:

  1. Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
  2. Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
  3. Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.

The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

  1. Hello all, Recently,I've been at one forum discussinig the mind/body problem and "hard problem of conciousness".Well, there one one person who claimed that existence of "mirror matter" is the most likely resolution for mind/body problem. But he used the quotation about "mirror photons" proposed by Bob Holdom, here: "According to Bob Holdom, of the University of Toronto, says that photons and mirror photons, (along with other particles and their mirror counterparts) can change into each other through the exchange of a "Holdom force" particle, or H particle. Mirror photons, in theory, can interact with regular photons. However, the mirror photon can not interact with any c…

Internal Lorentz force paradox A current in a magnetic field feels the Lorentz force. For isolated coil, the Lorentz force on a current segment is due to the magnetic field of the coil itself. This force is internal to the coil and its resultant is 0. Let us see the internal force of the coil shown in the Figure 1. This coil is composed of a curved wire part and a straight wire part. According to the Lorentz force law, the magnetic force is always perpendicular to the current, as indicated by the forces Fcurv and Fstr in the Figure 1. The resultant force on the curved part is Rcurv and that on the straight part is Rstr. Rcurv and Rstr are forces internal to the c…

Lets say we witness the twin paradox in real life without any knowledge of relativity. On Earth we see the astronaught twin climb out of his spacecraft considerably younger than his brother and both the clock on the ground and the one in the spaceship show different times. With no knowledge of relativity at all - how does one explain what has happened to a group of laymen onlookers? The only explanation I can think of is that (1) the astronaught has spent his time in space in slow motion (2) the difference in clock times is due to time and reality slowing down on the spaceship. This is fact and reality surely - something that overrides everything else for …

If we are going to keep speculative ideas to the correct forum, then why are we discussing Dark Matter and Dark Energy since they have no laboratory evidence that such exist, or any observations in space?????????????? Other than pure speculation of course.

Completely correct. In the reference to speed equation which is a variation of times equation which is a variation of distance. Here is my question what happens if you substitute miles an hour with DEGREE of change? The degree of change would be constant in relation to each other this would allow an equation to be produced that would create absolute time... LIKE _________________________ Time = ((pi)2r/360)({-+}L) -+ ((pi)2r/360)D pi2r = is the equation for circumference points observed based on altitude position of planet/object it resides upon. This is the link to the original: http://www.thetechga.../t=3920116.html Hi, you may have seen my previous topic on the conspiracy of 9/11. Here Please, don't "flick through" when reading this. It's good to read carefully and take in all the information given. And I would love it if you comment. It's great to see everyone's view on the topic. Firstly, I do not mean to offend anyone. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and this is mine. I've been thinking about when the death of Osama B…

  9. Since the case is one of " to measure" we here deal with a verbal component in "nominal equivocation to" measurement. What unit of measure is that and what is its conversion factor to newtons from metres one might as well say. Is it transposable from newtons to metres? I know metres does convert to yards as it does to feet and inches and to miles with a simple conversion factor. As far as references are concerned for this subject labelled measurement who is the peer review committee but Mr and Mrs General Public. Think for a second how they would react if the big house they paid big bucks for was delivered unto them in nano miles/kilometres when they were expecting yards/…

The British bee population is decreasing. Of course, there are the usual biological factors to consider - lack of food, space, competition or the appearance of new predators, or a combination of the above. Bee experts have also speculated at the decline in bee numbers: Dan the Gardener Although Dan the Gardener is not giving references to peer reviewed journals, he is giving his experienced opinion on possible causes for the decline of numbers of bees. I am speculating that there is another cause that has not been considered - microwaves from our communications matrix called TETRA. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUc2DG9Cl64 Dr B Trower Report t…

Anti-Judeo-Christian Censorship MoonTanMan and myself have been instructed to begin our discussion to our own thread, and as you know I do, I always comply to the best of my understanding. In 1977, Thomas Jefferson drafted this Statute for Religious Freedom, and it was made into state law in Virginia in 1786. Edgar Cayce's own readings directed him from Selma, Alabama to Virginia , where his readings survive to this day with the Association of Research and Enlightenment. Singling out discussion of Judeo-Christian scripture as inappropriate on Science Forums seems quite contrary to this celebrated document, and even illegal in Virginia. I would like some opinions …

If numbers are true forms for generalizing something used by science, can magical squares also generalize the idea of zero? In my opinion, I think they can really help the science world to discover more areas of research! I have notice that in some magical squares 0 can be used as a number. Why I do not know as of yet, and what does 0 generalize I also do nor know as of yet... Infact this one here shows that 0 " appears" to have some value. I posted this in Speculation because I know it will end up here anyway. But that's fine! I'm a speculator. But this thread will be an exercise in logic as much as speculation. I think I might even present a puzzle that some on here will enjoy resolving (if possible). This is a "wall of text" but for the entire picture to be painted, it required the entire canvas and spectrum of colors that I could muster. I am going to submit a question to the able minded and more thoroughly researched individuals of this forum. The question is, is there published observational data that shows THE RATE OF CHANGE of REDSHIfTING GALAXY CLUSTERS? If you are believers in science, you kn…

We make a postulation: That in some deep sense the World is made of mathematical relationships. We state three laws: <1> Every mathematical relation permitted by Logic must occur. <2> Time is just a number, an integer. <3> Everything that occurs in Nature is a function of Time. <1> says that the World is a mathematical-logical construct, that any mathematical relationship permitted by logic must occur in Nature. Logic is simple Boolean logic, which can be applied to mathematical expressions. <2> says that time is just an ordinary integer, its value is about 10^41 at present and increasing by about 10^25 per second. &…

  15. If you read the followng announcement: 'Scientists have determined that space, time, and energy were all part of the same thing.' What ideas would go thru your mind? My first thought would be: That's plausible. I can't think of a place in the observable univers were one exists without the other. Space, time, and energy could be one and the same. That would imply to me that those things would remain in proportion to each other. If one increased in quantity, then all would increase in quantity. We know that energy travels in space in the form of photons, gamma rays, and neutrinos, among other things. The products from the very first nuclear fusion events followi…

A Thought on Entangled Particles Light is emitted from the atomic realm and then travels thru our dimensional, sequential realm. Sometimes it reaches a destination and its journey ends. Sometimes light it travels on, seemingly forever, thru the cosmos. I once read that a traveler on a beam of light would think that the completed journey occurred in no time at all, because the traveler was moving at the speed of light. Change of subject: Multi-Dimensional Universe. It has been written that other dimensions exist. These dimensions are sometimes described as somehow coiled up inside of the dimensions that we are familiar with, which I have described as our dime…

  17. Why neutron requires charge to become stable? Why against Coulomb attraction, nucleus require charge? How this charge is distributed inside nucleon (quarks)? Nucleus? Large nuclei are believed to behave like a liquid – are nucleons freely swimming there, or maybe they are somehow clustered, like in neutron-proton(-neutron) parts? I’m thinking of a topological soliton model of particles (concrete field structures for particles, with quantum numbers as topological charges), which doesn’t only restrict to mesons and baryons like the Skyrme model, but is an attempt to a more complete theory: which family of topological soltions would correspond to our whole particle m…

Assumptions are what drive modern Mainstream science. Not all assumptions need be false, but invariably some will be. We know that within the boundaries of the observable universe, everything pretty much acts according to laws that a certain species of primates on a little blue ball has marveled at figuring out. But what compels us to believe this MUST be true elsewhere? I grant that without being able to observe anything else, it's all we have. However, if I had been born in a prison cell and been fed beans and rice all my life by an unknown prison keeper,, I might believe that beans and rice were the only available foods, that I and my prisoner were the only p…

I was just saying that I am open minded towards scientific explanations of any natural/observed phenomena, even though I am religious. It may seem contradictory I know... The fact that it is free to join and that the moderators such as yourself try to keep it as clean and scientific as possible. Well done. No ads either, I wonder how you guys keep it running... One more thought, maybe the "Magical Creation Story" that we read in books of religion is some kind of dumbed-down long-story-short version for wh…

My calculation for the Higgs boson mass for the Standard Model. The Higgs boson mass is equal to one-half the Higgs vacuum expectation value. Higgs boson mass: [math]m_H = \frac{v_h}{2} = \frac{1}{2} \sqrt{\frac{(\hbar c)^3}{\sqrt{2} G_F}} = 123.111 \; \frac{\text{Gev}}{\text{c}^2}[/math] [math]\boxed{m_H = \frac{1}{2} \sqrt{\frac{(\hbar c)^3}{\sqrt{2} G_F}}}[/math] CERN Higgs boson mass: [math]m_H = 125.3 \pm 0.6 \; \frac{\text{Gev}}{\text{c}^2}[/math] Which implies that the Higgs boson achieves mass from the Higgs field vacuum via the Higgs mechanism. 22. If F= mass * acceleration then, when you drop the same ball from different hight, it has SAME Acceleration. We know that, the same ball dropped from different height will make different DENT. Therefore we observe that, the higher the distance from which the ball is dropped, the bigger Force it will exert. The Acceleration of the ball doesn't change with the height of the drop. It's the SAME 9.8 m/s^2 regardless of the height of the drop. However, its the velocity changed. Therefore Equation for Force IS F=m * V In Newtons equation, the Acceleration is redundant and can be cancelled entirely according to principles of mat…

Has anybody else ever come up with an alternative to quark theory? According to my theory of everything; all particles with rest mass, must be made from a mixture of positive and negative charges, except electrons which are made from a single negative charge, and positrons which are made of single positive charges. For instance we might assume that a proton is composed of 1000 negative charges and 1001 positive charges, all solidly packed together. The charge of the proton can be attributed to the fact that it has one extra positive charge, whilst the mass can be explained by the large number of charges present. The advantage of my theory is that just about e…

First of all, I am an amateur. I'm also not here to argue or debate this simple idea that may easily be dismissed with mathematics or a fundamental law. So if you are closed minded to thought experiments that require a certain amount of speculation and imagination, this won't be for you. However, if a mathematical equation or fundamental law easily and obviously negates this idea, I welcome it. I read and devour cosmological physics ideas from a variety of sources. Recently I was watching a documentary that poked into several topics...the "arrow of time" concept, entropy, matter and antimatter, and dark matter/energy. The program touched upon a female astrophysicists …

  25. If there's a giant meteor, here's what you should do: Not nuke it. There is no air in space, so there is nothing to carry a powerful directed shockwave, a nuclear weapon would simply be a burst of high energy radiation and enough of them at once may partially strip away the ozone or more. Instead, develop a very powerful fragmentation bomb, a bomb that will generate shrapnel powerful tear through the meteor and break it into tinier pieces. It will likely take more than one, and there will very likely still be some big chunks left-over, but the many smaller pieces will burn up in the atmosphere and not cause so much damage upon impact. However, it doesn't stop here. All…
