There seems to have been a spate of new members posting a short question and, following an answer or two, ending with the very scientific phrase "issue got solved" Is there any significance in this ?

I’ve had a bunch of randos who’ve never even once posted here start “following” me in the last few weeks... I am notified when they begin following. My understanding is that the follow function is basically a subscription to get updates every time I post. My intuition is that it’s not being done for any positive purpose or because they wish to learn from me etc., and may in fact be a coordinated effort to learn more about me and plan for a social engineering attack of some sort. Maybe (hopefully) I’m wrong, but I’d simply rather not have followers. Can followers be blocked? Can I disagree to their desire to follow me, or be given an option to Approve/De…

Look admins, why do you think I come here? In my thread titled the spirit of science someone suggested going through previous posts and pointing things out to make my case. I have read through this one : Everybodies approach is the same, to jump in and start critising things before actually understanding them. There are small comments aimed at me like implying I am just making things up. This is prejudice, you are making judgements without first considering my case, I am expecting you to ask questions about it and understand it before you start critising it, otherwise your critisms entirely miss the point. But I dont think you realise you are even doing it…

Should I wait for my Thread in speculations if it is good ? Or I need a next step? Thanks,

I have had some very interesting interactions on this site and I dont believe they are in the spirit of science. I have a framework for a theory of everything however discussion of this is not allowed. The reason it is not allowed is because the admins are too busy judging me and not what I am presenting. For example, no one has ever said 'oh yes, that explains why reality is mathematical' or 'actually, that doesnt explain why reality is mathematical'. There is no discussion about what I am presenting it is rather dismissed because an admin simply doesnt believe there is a theory of everything or some other belief or opinion. Peoples beliefs and prejudices should not…

I got spam email today from someone. Here is the email: "Hi, How are you doing today, i just came across your profile and it really interested me to contact you, i hope we get to know more about each other, share ideas, meet someday and i would like to learn more from you, please contact me back soon via deleted so i can tell you more about myself okay" Could be legit, neverknow, but if she/he has never met me before and is saying all these things like meeting up then it probably means they are trying to do something funny. Can they be banned based on me thinking she is upto something even though she/he hasn't done anything yet? They are also following me.

  8. Hello, I just began this account. The moment I created my account with my new password I got a warning from google chrome stating my "password is compromised" and that I need to change it for all sites I use that have the same password. Can anyone explain why this has happened? Is this anything to be seriously concerned about? This is an https site so my information should be private. Thanks, sorry if I am posting in the wrong section I am new to the site.

Note: The topic of this thread is moderation; even though the context of the linked article is about Trump being banned from twitter, that's a politics discussion and following up on those details is off-topic here. https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20210108/17022646023/not-easy-not-unreasonable-not-censorship-decision-to-ban-trump-twitter.shtml Interesting observations, and ones that I think are true, in my experience here We get complaints from some of our visitors about how they've been treated when they run afoul of the rules, and like this says, every case is different. The rules may seem vague because we need leeway to use judgement. Specifi…

Something rather is happening with the notifications. Just logged on and looked at a string of notifications. At the top is on from 'Charles', claiming to be 10 hours ago but was actually from November 2020. I am pretty sure I have also seen the other listed notifications as well. I have seen this several times recently.

  12. This rule here for example; as it is written, it is a good rule for the hard science sections but even when arguing in good faith in say the ethics or philosophy forum, what exactly is considered evidence in those fields? How could the rule be copied but reformatted for the sections where although science is a part of the fields in question, it is not the only part? I am making this request out of sincere desire to understand exactly how the staff here want the rules of engagement within these forums to be interpreted as recent arguments, misunderstandings and hurt feelings are probably being caused by these sorts of confusions. As it is, it seems even qu…

I have been off the Forum for a while, writing up my book in the summer and also now starting a full time teaching role since the start of September. As a consequence I have forgotten how to embed videos and images. Can one of the Mods or a kindly member reiterate in a step by step guide that can be followed by a simple-minded individual like myself? Cheers

A lot of the topics in computer science is about getting help with programming or specific languages and implementations. Should we have a section for "programming help" or similar? Fictive examples to illustrate: Computer science existing section: Focus on the science and research aspects - Here is an interesting paper on the mathematics behind a new set of algorithms. - According to this paper cloud computing requires a paradigm shift for XYZ, what are your experiences of this? - Why does machine learning algorithm X outperform algorithm Y under these circumstances? - I have question regarding complexity theory and computability: ... Computer help sect…

StrangeSuperNerddapartypooper; you closed the following forum --- “a possible new source of energy, flammable farts” Before you stuck your but into this discussion a few posters were trying to honestly discuss the energy potential of converting sewage treatment plants into self-sustaining facilities. The plants would get their power from the sewage they treat. I believe this could qualify as the first perpetual motion machine in our history. You are truly a party-pooper what say you-?

Good day to all. If a catastrophic failure in the forum server damages the records of years of posts; is there a backup of all contents ? Is it possible to purchase DVDs with the SFN contents; since day one; or by years; or by subforum contents ? Or what is suggested to obtain/download the history of a subforum content -say Applied chemistry- to save in optical media in a readable format , like we access it normally any day ? What about copyrights, use restrictions, ownership ?

  22. Started by PrimalMinister,

I am writing this post because I have a theory of everything however I don't really want to talk about it because I have tried previously and the conversation has not gone particularly well. So first I am going to address the moderators as they are the ones that seem to make the most comments. Look, I do not think you are stupid. Here I am, some chump off the internet with no credentials claiming to have made the greatest scientific breakthrough of all time. This is in your eyes, and I don't totally blame you as I am sure you have seen it before, very unlikely, and because of this you are very sceptical. However, if you treat every case with the same hand wav…
