Don't ask why I'm asking this I know that in ARS gut lining is destroyed together with bone marrow which is IIRC main reason of death in ARS. What are effects of gamma radiation on other cell types such as muscles, nerve cells, and internal organ tissues?

Seems like there is strong evidence that ADHD stimulants save lives. https://www.additudemag.com/adhd-symptoms-coronavirus-risk/ "The COVID-19 infection rate is nearly 50% higher among individuals with unmedicated ADHD compared to individuals without ADHD" https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32629693/ "The white blood count rose by 1350 cells/μL (P < .033) due to neutrophilia, lymphocytosis and eosinophilia. Given the recent removal of Vioxx from the market, I was wondering if any of you have ever had serious adverse reactions to a newly prescribed medication. I'm also hoping for some comments from Drug Addict. Several years ago, I got thrombocytopenia as an adverse reaction to Pravochol. It was an enlightening and frightening experience, to put it mildly. Rather than give me a prescription, the doc gave me a couple weeks worth of samples, but he didn't warn me to watch of for any specific adverse reactions. After I had taken it for a few days, I noticed a few bruises I didn't remember acquiring, but I didn't think much about them, because I work in a machine shop a…

Hello everyone, I'm currently doing a little research on aersol & sub-lingual medication. I'm particularly interested in the medication people have to carry around with them in case of an attack (allergy, asthma, angina....) I was wondering what kind of allergy can be treated with an aerosol or sub-lingual medication & what are the name of their respective medicine. What other kind of applications aerosol & sub-lingual medicine have even if they are marginal? If you have any information on the subject or if you could point me out to good online database it would be very appreciated. Thank you

Have scientists invented an age reversal pill yet? Or some equivalent technology? Is it likely we'll see such a technology within, say, the next 50 years?

  7. Ever since I was a kid I have the fear of getting painfully injured, like being cut by a very sharp knife. I think this type of phobia is called agliophobia. Angliophobia (the fear of pain) can be a serious problem and can even paralyze a person. Agliophobia is a psychological disorder that can be described as the fear of experiencing pain. In most cases, the person fears an event that may potentially cause pain. The fear may be worse than any real potential injury that could actually occur, making the fear illogical. http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-agliophobia.htm

This is an idea some friends and I have kicked around a bit. I realalize this is not rational, but I'm wondering if there could be any validity to it. We say: If you could give every one on the planet AIDS (or any disease for that matter) and we continued to reproduce, passing on the disease. Wouldent we as a spices develope some kind of an immunity to it? ^---- the result of college students what do you guys think?

I heard about this on the TV and thought it was a good example of good statistical studies leading to irrational results that will be overturned with the next set of studies. The reason I say that, statistical studies are based on a blackbox, where we measure input and output and then create a correlation. But not knowing what is in the blackbox typically leads to short term hype followed by another study that will say the opposite. When I thought about this, I came up with the perfect analogy to describe how something mathematically valid can still lead to the wrong conclusions. For the blackbox in this study, we are going to use a soda machine. Our inputs are coin…

The debate/argument with John Cuthber in the previous thread is piqued my curiosity about this subject and I have been continuing to dig around. A search in google scholar has revealed these two items, one published in 2004 and the other in 2006. Not the gradual change in position on alcohol consumption. http://www.sciencedi...376871685900018 This is entirely inline with John Cuthber's and other's position in here. A review of the literature on the positive benefits of light and moderate alcohol consumption suggests the following: 1. (1) Alcoholic beverages are food, containing approx. 7 calories per gram of ethanol. Beer contains small percentages…

Well I just crossed 18 and I was wondering what are the effects of alcoholic drinks on health. In my country, consuming alcohol is not that common. Some people regard it as bad ethics and mostly are for ill-behaving people while some consume it but only in parties and pubs. While in Europe, America and most countries it is a common beverage. People perhaps consume it frequently. I'm rather confused of whether it is healthy or not. Being a science forum I would like a rather scientific answer. Thank You!

I have been allergically responding to the tap water, and I think I have worked out the hydrodynamics of it well enough to post it with some certainty. I don't know where my mom's apartment's water comes from. Any help understanding this would be appreciated. Main allergic response: The first thing I addressed was the tableware. Yes, tableware and silverware washed in tap water is the #1 culprit if no action at all is taken. My fingers were the number two culprit. Even accidental contact with fingers was noticeably aggravating to my allergy. Rinsing my fingers with store-bought water was ultimately more wasteful than simply using inside-out bags as gloves. …

  19. So with the rise of "E-sports," people who tout sports over video games have shifted their argument from their previous "but sports are more normal" to their current "but sports are healthier." But there's a tradeoff. Video games don't give you exercise, but they're also less likely to get you killed. As such, that leaves the question. Why have sports in particular become the go-to standard for encouraging fitness? Parents drive their kids to sports practice, which burns more fossil fuels and fewer calories than if they rode their bicycles there. But then if they rode their bicycles there, they might be too tired to give it their a…

I want to start off by saying this is a completely serious thread... First off... Lately I've been have umm.... For lack of a better term: "unbearably smelly flatulence"... And small amounts of diarrhea. I haven't been eating anything out of the ordinary except for juice... I NEVER drink juice (Ever.) but for the last two weeks (around the time this "issue" started occurring...) I started drinking a lot of juice, mostly cranberry, because I decided to give up soda and I had to replace it with something. My mom suggested that my body was doing a major system clean up. Is that possible? Or do I have some sort of crazy intestinal problem? My second question is: What's t…

  25. In short - one person whom I know from another forum is a long term advocate of research on gut microbiome and fecal microbiota transplantation - it's an exciting area of study that will help treat a wide variety of human diseases in the future. He's a disabled person with little financial resources and has been advocating on various science- and disease-related places on the internet for years but was met with either hostility or apathy. He would welcome any kind of help but currently, his main goal is to get as many people from the US to e-mail the Congresspeople. This is his letter to US legislators, summarizing his work: https://forum.humanmicrobiome.info/threads/the-…
