Discussion of science topics that don't fit under any other category.

So I am trying to understand the following and was told not to hijack a thread One of the most important (and hardest) lessons to learn in science is that "we don't know" is a valid answer. And often it is the only, or the best, answer we have. All other answers have a level of uncertainty associated with them, so we rarely (if ever) know things for sure. so my question is does this apply to everything we think we know about science or physics? example: why we see about the Higgs bosom or Higgs field is it all just we don’t know and think we are right. how do we know our data if we have any is right? how do we know we are …

Hello everyone and everybody! I suggest to use the reed and mouthpiece from an alto or bass clarinet on an alto or tenor saxophone with a special bocal. The sound of a woodwind depends strongly on them, here it might resemble a tárogató. The bass clarinet and tenor saxophone can already swap the reed of similar size, but only a clarinet mouthpiece has a facing curve to match the clarinet reed's profile. The designs differ much. Not only is the clarinet facing's curve steeper at the tip, the bore is also much smoother. The bocal fits in the saxophone's mouthpiece but surrounds the clarinet's one, demanding a new bocal design. Proper intonation needs to …

We all know david hahn did it. Why cant we? ( safely of course!) To be honest all im bothered about is creating a neutron gun ( one that produces neutrons effectively and efficiently) im not looking to build the reactor its self i just want the neutron gun for studying affects of radiation and neutrons on plant cells etc. I do know about the basic lead block method but is there anything better? Any help?

Hello musicians and everyone! About woodwind instruments, I mentioned sometimes the reed susceptance. Here are explanations. This sketches a clarinet mouthpiece and reed. A double reed works similarly https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_reed The pressure oscillations of the air column move the flexible reed. When the pressure is lower, it closes the reed. When it's higher, the more open reed lets more breath pass. More throughput when the downstream pressure is bigger is the opposite of a usual obstacle or loss: it's a negative conductance that provides power to the oscillation of the air column. That's known. The reed must be closed when the dow…

  7. Your stated "So if you have a firm knowledge about the physiological basis of memory, can show why present ideas fail, and can show that your ideas fit very well in what we do know, please, present your ideas. But as said, why not publish them in a scientific journal?" I have worked on the physiological basis of memory for decades. Self published a book that deals with this topic extensively, but I don't know how to go about getting an article published in a scientific journal. Any suggestions are appreciated.

  9. So I'm sure I am making an error in my thinking somewhere, but in my head when I look at the technological progress of the last hundred years, much lesthe last thousand. It seems there is a gap. In what humans were doing between evolution of modern homosapians, and the foundation of the first civilizations. from wikipedia: homosapians evolved 400,000 and 250,000 bc with "behavioral modernity" being evident around 50,000 bc.(cave paintings, tool use, pottery, etc) Let us assume that the first human civilizations arose ~6,000 BC based on who you ask, and what you consider a "civilization" and ever since then, it appears technology, philosophy and scien…

  10. Yesterday (Thursday) morning around 10AM we had a partly cloudy sky in Alliance Ohio... and noticed the moon through some clouds. It appeared as a FULL moon. (supposed to be third quarter moon) Once we viewed the moon about 45 minutes later (in clear sky) it was no longer appearing to be a FULL moon! QUESTION: is it possible for light to reflect off the clouds and back to the moon to make the moon appear to be full when is should only be in third quarter phase? I am 67 years old, and never saw such a thing! Now I wish I had taken some pictures. -steve/Triberfan

not exactly sure where to post this Question I am confused at the results of an echocardiogram the initial reading was enough to convince that there was a possible blockage which there was. They installed stents. A month later they do another echo yet the reading is essentially the same? How does that work? The heart ejection fraction apparently presents the same in both readings so essentially the before and after Picture present the same Physically I know the new plumbing is working. I am fairly certain that the meds I am taking are not designed to create a simple physical feeling of wellness yet the EF in the second test matches the EF in the first test scie…

There are some who consider language a scientific subject. Certainly it can be very technical. You might enjoy "The Cambridge Encylopedia of Language." I believe you can get a pdf download for your E reader. Tenses: Some languages (Latin, German, ...) use changes to the endings of nouns to indicate different purposes. English does not do this very much. Most languages (German, French, Latin, Russian .. ) offer a much smaller set of changes to verbs than does English. Although there are only three basic tenses, Past Present and Future, English has many variations on each. These variations often confuse those learning English as a foreign langu…

  17. how do you block the EMF emissions coming out of the brain? can EMF emissions from the brain of person can be converted back to information inside his brain(thought, emotions or EEG/Evoked potentials) is patent US3951134A of Robert G. Hi. Seen publications and also videos on rooting cuttings using 'natural' and chemical compounds; but it is always done to few inches of cuttings. Anyone knows methods to promote rooting to a 5, 6, + feet long branch cutoff from a mature tree ? Or a link to such ? Ideally, for fruit trees, but, thinking also on timber harvest; respectable branches from downed trees are just left to rot. It would be interesting to gain years of growth by planting large branches...

  21. I wasn't sure where to post this question and I wasn't sure the best " Title " You know when you go to pick up a bag that you think is full/heavy and it's empty and there is that weird sensation. What exactly is happening in that instant? I went to pick up a bag and thought it was my fast food and it was empty and that little " jolt " feeling happened. I find this very interesting. It's like in an instant your body prepares for the item your going to pick up.. I'd love to know more about what is happening

  22. Hello. We would like to present you our comic project, which has quite a serious background. It refers to the field of linguistics, an area in which innovation is usually nonsense. Nevertheless, the invention of new languages, still belongs to the field of innovation. Comrade and I created a new artificial language (iffuty.ga) called IFFUTY LANGUAGE (the word "iffits" means "stone", from the popular saying in the southern countries similar to the Russian "just like an egg": "just like a stone"). The language is based on a slightly modified Basic English dictionary. There is no punctuation in the language (except the point), there is only one form of the word tha…

I wasn't sure which category to put this under. So I put it here. As the title says, I have smashed fossil fuels. It is an idea I came up with about 20 years ago. Would you like to hear about it? Are you willing to walk through hell to hear the solution? Because you're going to have to. The reason for that being that chances are you are too invested in the system in which you became all scientific to want change to happen to that system. I brought this subject up to somebody at the political forum. He along with everybody else were doubters. But he was the only one who was willing to send me a PM for me to tell them where to go to see the information about…

  25. Hi Im working on an experiment to test the validity of a specific equipment. For that, I need polyester microparticles, which are irregularly shaped, in a range of 1-300 um, with about 8 different sample sizes. Also I don't need that much of it, roughly 2grams per sample size. Anyone knows any sites that is able to help produce these microparticles or a vendor that deals with this? Any help is appreciated & thx for reading :D BTW if any mods out there feel free tellme if this is in the wrong place to post this. I couldn't find other places which I can post this in.
