  2. I have heard about a group of popular students from my High School who are now successful. Their parents paid for their college. They live in gated neighborhoods with nice houses. They party. They have office jobs , presumably provided by their parents connections. They were not nice to the Muslims and Sikhs. I doubt they would be be the kind of people to have enough courage to enter the void to colonize other planets to allow humanity to survive. Donald Trump is the genetic combination of an orange and an ogre. Elon Musk, Warren Buffett, Steve Jobs, Bob Iger, and Bill Gates are the only rich people I idolize. I would prefer if the next president rescinded the travel …

Would anyone care to comment on the propriety ( or vice versa ) of Cathy Griffin's photo shoot with the images of a beheaded President ? And now she is doubling down, claiming that the repercussions ( of her actions ) are ruining her life. Typical Hollywood; They are allowed to do whatever they want and protest whoever they want, but no one else should have the rights to protest their actions ? This has very little to do with the president ( and his incompetence ), but has the media pushed too far in encouraging this sort of behavior ? Is it now accepted behavior because D Trump 'deserves it' ?

Are gag orders for the USDA, NPS and EPA, along with immediate elimination of competitively awarded scientific grants without review, freezing of NIH, NSF, NOAA, USDA, USGS, etc postdoctoral hiring are things you wanted from your federal government? What do you think it bodes for the state of science in the US?

For those who don't know, Omar Khadr is the Canadian born son of Afghan parents, who took him back to Afghanistan at a young age to train as a terrorist. There are pictures of him as a youth making IEDs. At age 15 he was involved in a firefight with American soldiers, was wounded and tossed a grenade which killed a medic, Sgt. Speer. He was taken to Guantanamo Bay, where he was interrogated by the American Government as well as the previous Canadian Liberal Government. He was held for about 15 yrs, during which time we elected a Conservative Government, and now, again a Liberal Government. He has been re-patriated for a few yrs, and now our Government has decided to is…

Question: How many people in the White House Science Office (technically The science division of the White House's Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) ) as of Friday close of business? None at all. *including Peace prize and Organizations - I couldn't be bothered to find a list of just real person Science prize winners.

Both the House and Senate "healthcare" bills cut funding and will eliminate healthcare for millions of people. The result will arguably be more people die from lack of care than died on 911. It is unethical. Why are people so passive about such treatment from our politicians and the rich who force these policies on us. In reality, the "healthcare" bill is only one assault on the American people by oligarchs, but it is the current issue. I am frustrated and angry. With healthcare costs rising my savings can be quickly consumed, and I may become a statistic of inadequate healthcare. If my death could assure others would not be so denied, it would be OK with me, but thou…

  9. Tweet text: ".@Judgenap: Why do we have a Second Amendment? It's not to shoot deer. It's to shoot the government when it becomes tyrannical!"(6/23/16, 12:48PM). What do you think? Is he right? Is there a right? I'm arguing that not only is he wrong, he's the exact opposite of right. The purpose, rather than to allow us to shoot at the government, is to stop us from shooting at the government. As we know from the Heller decision, "The Amendments prefatory clause announces a purpose, but does not limit or expand the scope of the second part, the operative clause.". So, to find the stated purpose, we just need to look at the part of the Second Amendment of the…

We won't know the official results until sometime tomorrow, but based on exit polling, it looks like the election that Theresa May called hoping to extend her lead has ended up costing the Conservatives seats in Parliament and very likely their majority. Current projections put the breakdown as follows: Conservatives: 314 Labor: 266 Scottish Nationalist Party: 34 Labor: 14 Anyone a bit more familiar with UK politics than my own very surface level knowledge want to comment on the likelihood of any particular groups being able to form a government under these circumstances?

I saw James Woods posted this on Twitter (sorry, I can't figure out how to embed tweets): We've seen a meteoric rise in the stock market, post-Trump election win. What do you think is that cause of this? Is it a case of correlation, but not causation, or did Trump's win directly led to the rise? How did some many prognosticators get it so wrong? They all predicted doom and gloom on election night and the days after, yet the opposite has happened. What does this suggest about uncritically accepting so-called authority opinion?

Has anyone ever heard the sound of Jarod Kushner's voice? He is probably the most senior advisor to Trump, as son-in-law. And his voice has never been heard in the media, unless you go searching the internet for him saying anything and I did find him speaking in 2015 at "MAS 2015 - Growing the Innovation Economy" on Youtube. Listen to him, does he sound boring or what? https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=jared+kushner+voice&&view=detail&mid=129FACF5053C23545A2F129FACF5053C23545A2F&rvsmid=E2FF558C74940DAC9DE7E2FF558C74940DAC9DE7&fsscr=0&FORM=VDRVRV Why does he always avoid being heard? A video by Prager U I've seen states that the reasons Americans give far more money and volunteer more time to charity than Europeans is the size of the goverment - since people of the more left wing EU states thinks that the goverment already takes care of those in need. But quick googling gave me other explanaitons such as the stronger religiosity of the US. So what's the actual reason?

What North Korean Defectors Think Of North Korea ‪North Korean Defector tells what life is really like in North Korea. This morning, 4:30am local (GMT-5h) there were multiple stories about the Comey firing on youtube, including a couple of republican politicians saying the firing was suspicious and reminded them of Watergate. A few hour later, those videos don't show up on recommendations, and I can't find them with specific searches. The reason Trump gave for firing Comey was that he had insulted Hilary during the election, and that it had nothing to do with the Russian-Trump investigation. I also heard Trump fired Spicer, his press secretary, for fumbling when asked about the Comey firing. The story I heard was that Trump had not told Spicer about the firing, and reporters ran t…

  22. I've made the video below, and provided the transcript if you are unable to watch the video. The complexity of the many branches of science often require interpreters to relay information to the public in a manner they can understand, and it will continue to become more complicated and move further away from common understanding. Our understanding is expanding alongside the complexity. Unfortunately, we’re vulnerable to these interpretations being biased or influenced in ways that aren’t purely scientific - which can influence what we consider to be negative or positive due to that bias. The lack of trust from government toward the scientific community appears as …

For me it is his attitude of superiority to everybody, and his never-ending, carnival barker, huckster, con-man sales pitch, always boasting, always trying to talk you into a sale, always exaggerating. He seems delusional intentionally. He sounds like a mixture of Jim Backus as Thirston Howell on Gilligan's Island and Robert De Nero from the movie "Goodfellas". He wants to sound like a mobster, because they talk so cool, and concise, and he repeats himself ad nauseam. He always talks in fragments, to make himself look smart, like his nimble mind is moving ahead so fast. Some have said that Trump can be charming one-on-one, but the only charm I have ever seen looks s…

"$3,700,000,000,000 That's how much money the United States government spent in 2015 to run. The majority came form taxes, but not all of it. Now, we know that it's a pretty popular position to say you're going to lower taxes. But the problem, is that nobody ever lowers taxes. They simply find another way to make you spend your money. This going through back doors and trying to make it seem like you're saving the average american money, is harmful. First of all, it makes taxes so hard that it almost takes a professional to explain how to pay your taxes. Second, it makes it really hard for you to budget your money, because the taxes keep taking away from it at different t…
