Heterodoxy, I had a conversation with someone who manages engineers (owner operator, of a small prosperous firm), and I couldn't help but ask why they can be so incredibly ignorant, and how more than a few of them could support the political aspirations of imbeciles, con artists, and grifters. His explanation was right to the point. They were never trained, nor need critical thinking skills. They are trained in a very hard set of rules as to the way the world is, and that those rules are not to be questioned. They aren't scientists, and have no need for hypothesis, and testing. they are there to implement already known factors, and do so with high effectiveness. Ma…

It seems like society is going backwards. It seems like each passing year more and more people believe in a fantasy reality. A fantasy reality that believes in outlandish things like "vaccines are the devil" or that "space is fake". This mindset has even infected physically healthy people. There was a time when these type of people aspired to be astronauts. What has happened to society? We aren't just turning away from science but from reality as well.

There were some aspects of Cold War society that was better. People were more physically fit. People were more excited for space travel. People were optimistic for an interstellar future even under the threat of nuclear annihilation. The Middle Class was bigger. Now all people care about is hoarding wealth and materialism. What happened? I wish more of society would aspire to better themselves both physically and mentally. I wish more people and leaders would become more interested and determined to push us in the direction of a "Star Trek" future rather than spend billions on yachts and military toys. I like SpaceX's technology but I am not too comfor…

I think this raises the issue of the paralell-running cancel culture fad that is coursing through Western societies. It has become the de facto way to deal with issues, not just this one.

I'm a Brit, I know very little about the US Constitution. But I'm wondering if it needs amending. What would have happened, if Donald Trump had gone all the way on the day of the Capitol Riot, declaring a stolen election, and issuing orders to the military, and security services, to suspend normal government and institute martial law? That's how a coup is normally achieved. How close is the USA to that actually happening at some point? As the nation worships it's constitution, should there not be some amendment to cover such an event, to give clear guidance to the military and security services on how to respond to an illegal order from above? So that the…

While I certainly have an opinion on what is best for society, some of the arguing, bickering and forceful political points of view, sometimes wants me to throw up my hands, and retire [I already am retired] and become a recluse [no i aint no recluse......yet!] Why cant we all live together in peace, harmony and satisfaction? Why can't we, [those in a position too] help others less fortunate and in dire needs? I have expressed my opinion/s here now often enough for most to understand where I am coming from. I am fortunate health wise, and am reasonably well off. The current issues at this time that have me considering [just slightly though] becoming a re…

Has anyone been following the Elizabeth Holmes case? Based on what's discussed here, I don't think she is guilty. It seems, however, the technology and science behind the Edison is not being properly discussed in court. I spent yesterday looking into the Elizabeth Holmes case, and the Edison technology (video) looks very legit. Supposedly, there were issues with using blood for testing? Sure, devices give out error here and there. However, the methodology of the equipment and the comparative results in relation to the chemistry journal artlcles seems that there isn't much of an issue with the miniaturization of the technology. I'm juggling a varie…

As a gun loving but tolerant independent should I be afraid of the "Trumpers"? https://www.salon.com/2021/09/28/americas-fate-looks-bleak-will-it-be-oligarchy-or-autocracy/ Or are they an overstated threat? How worried should I be for my Muslim friends? I will die fighting before I allow anyone to hurt them!

@Peterkin I'm guessing you're understanding of "forward and backward" is, forward = good and backward = bad; my point is one leads to the other and the most productive part of the political pendulums swing is in the change of direction. George Orwell had a lot to say on the subject, as did most religion's. It doesn't matter where we learn the lesson, just that we're open to be taught.

How would you feel if a moderate who was afraid of the direction America was going and started his own political movement called the "Freedom" or "Americana" movement? He labels the governments of China and Russia as enemies of all mankind. He calls Russia a "Frozen Shithole". He criticizes the Democratic party as "cowardly" and "soft". He decries the Republican party for falling in love with Russian style authoritarianism. He advocates for the legalization of marijuana and ending the patriot act. He says too many cops have the "Russian mentality". He proclaims he will never let America become a "shithole" like Russia. He then converts mo…

For three days now Melbourne has been under attack from extreme right wing ratbag elements that have caused much damage and plenty of disgust among normal Aussies. The core of these riots while having some legitimacy, have been hijacked by various extreme elements that have like leaches, jumped on the bandwagon, in a belief of achieving some sort of result or victory. In fact, thankfully the opposite has happened. The legitimate core involved tradies and members of the CMFEU union and a mandatory vaccination order. On the first day after trashing their head office, many were found not to be union members, plus the fact that the leaders of the union, do support mand…

America has seen yet another merciless killing of an unarmed person of color at the hands of police. This time though, it seems different. In the past, even with video tape, things happened quickly. An officer overreacted and shot an unarmed person. Sometimes the situation was ambiguous, sometimes not. But there was always a sense in previous police killings that somehow the officer had slipped up; gotten it wrong. Call it a lack of training, tunnel vision, PTSD - whatever term describes a person who under situations of extreme stress cannot act in good judgement and makes a fatal error, costing an innocent person their life. But George Floyd's killing wa…

Michael Pascoe is an Aussie financial journalist and commentator, keynote speaker and facilitator...... https://thenewdaily.com.au/finance/2021/10/01/michael-pascoe-us-democracy-threat/ COVID-19 is not our biggest problem. Neither is China. Or even climate change. (As a species we know what we have to do and we can do it, if we want to.) No, the biggest threat is one that would make those three challenges worse: The death of American democracy – the US sliding into an autocracy, becoming a crony capitalist, para-fascist state. It may seem an incredible claim, but there’s a solid and frightening argument that the outlook for American democracy has deter…

I think we need a president who is optimistic and inspiring. A president who advocates for stronger social programs and the rebuilding of infrastructure. They would try to inspire people to support science, engineering, and space exploration. They would also speak out against authoritarianism and tyranny of all kinds. They would unite America and it's allies against China and Russia. If there is still a war on drugs they would at least decriminalize marijuana. While doing all of this they would do anything they can to stop climate change. And they are an idealist who believes humanity should strive for the "Star Trek future". Is this an unreasonable standard for…

Remark of UK becoming a US State has come up way too often elsewhere and made me want to sit down and figure out the scenarios for a British State or States in the US. Numbers are only rough figures based on public data and tools, but feel they are reasonably representative. Republic and Territory The Monarchy Abdicates or is Abolished Republic of Britain is briefly created Republic requests annexation by the United States Annexation bill passes North East Territory is created. Assumed: North Ireland chooses to remain a territory or chooses to separate Statehood Scenario A - Upon successful application,…

Faster than expected (which might be a good thing regardless of the fact that an oppressive regime is taking over, if they were going to take over anyway) https://www.aljazeera.com/gallery/2021/8/15/in-pictures-taliban-fighters-enter-afghan-presidential-palace Reminds me a bit of Saigon, and a bit of Havana. Hopefully retributions will be minimal and the new version of the Taliban will be a little more progressive than the old one. ...and foreign militaries manage to avoid aggravating it, in favour of political and economic pressures. After 20 years though...we lost. Hopefully we come to terms with that, and not try to turn it around.

If they put up fencing around the Capitol again, that will prevent the Trumpers from entering restricted Capitol property. Instead the Capitol police should set up an ambush with no fences. Warn them that they will be arrested if they enter restricted grounds. When they do enter restricted grounds, they are surrounded by thousands of cops who pop out of nowhere, zip tie, and arrest everyone who defied the warning.

Biden said he want to find out does Taliban really want peace or not just before Taliban attacked the Afghanistan national army. LMAO, hahah They also said they want to stay in Afghanistan after 31/08/2021, hahahhahah, You made the deal to leave Afghanistan on 31/08/2021 it is like they say they want to stay in a hotel for one more day without pay. They also ask those Asian countries to open their board. Uzbekistan said it will not accept any refugee, they must be too polite, so they do not tell the American and EU politicians to Shut-UFU. + Korean, China, Japan never accept one single refugee.
