I'm curious how much you've automated your traffic systems wrt law enforcement because of this. I think one of the best ways to defund police departments and make them more efficient is to take speeding and running red lights off their plates by having radar-type traps and cameras that send you a picture of you violating traffic these traffic laws. If this is too far off-topic, I can start a different thread.

On the one hand you have states like Wisconsin, who send all underage teens to adult jail for almost all crimes, and on the other, you have the current situation in California. Hanna Tubbs, a 26 year old biological male ( who after being arrested identifies as female ), walked into a rest room and sexually assaulted a 10 year old girl, 8 years ago, when Tubbs was 17 years old. The LA county DA, has decided in his wisdom, that since Tubbs was a juvenile when he/she committed the crime, he/she will now serve his/her sentence in a juvenile correctional facility, with underage females, even though he/she is now 26 years old. Hannah Tubbs: Woman convicted of sexual…

What do you think about the ideas of Jordan Peterson? More precisely the idea that history of human society is that of dialogue between conservatives and liberals and that if conservatives and liberals can agree on something, then it's likely a good thing to do. In other words too much conservatism is bad and too much liberalism is also bad

Does anyone think that people should understand the voting process for their individual county? It seems to me that in high school, in the 12th grade, just before voters are 18 years old and can vote, they should take a civics course that explains, among other things, the voting process in their own county. Maybe this already exists in high school, anyone know? I still don't know exactly what happens to my mail-in ballot after I drop it in the box. What security methods are used to ensure nothing funny happens with the ballots? What will happen when the handling of the ballots is controlled by a certain party?

I now consider myself a "futurist". I am no longer afraid of GMOs and nuclear power! I agree with Robert Zubrin all the time! I would love to build a next generation nuclear power plant right next to them and watch them squeal. I wish California was mostly middle class people who believed in science and space exploration. I want humanity to dream again! I want humanity to aim for the stars again! The power of spaceflight and space exploration shouldn't be in the hands of a tiny few who are super wealthy! I wish the rich aspired to be more like astronauts rather than act like reality show stars. Ame…

Note: I'm not sure if this thread belongs in Politics or as part of another existing thread It might be interesting to discuss the success stories vs the failures so far in the COVID-19 pandemic. My definition of "success" is based on the number of deaths compared to the number of confirmed cases. Success Stories: Japan Singapore Taiwan Hong Kong South Korea Not so Successful: Pretty much every other country. Factors of Success: 1. Widespread and systematic testing - testing is readily available on demand and the throughput for testing (amount of tests that can be completed per day) is significantly higher…

Do they have common sense? 1) Mongolia conquered China. Mongols killed 50% of the Chinese population. "...According to the Chinese history not more than one hundredth part of the population survived, the countryside was covered with human bones, the cities left desolate..." —“The Mongol Conquest Of China And Its Consequences”, by George Tait Edwards. 2)Mongols divided people into four classes, Chinese were the lowest. 1. Mongols 2. Semu people 3. Northern Chinese 4. Southern Chinese ---Society Under Mongol Rule, www.encyclopedia.com 3) Bayan, the Mongolian Grand Chancellor suggested killing all Chinese with one of the most popular…

I have been reading about the omicron and cases going up very high in the UK and Europe and lock downs in some of those countries. So I wanted to see what the case count is in the US. And I’m shocked that none of the news web site even CNN or Fox news are posting the case count like they where before. It is almost like they want to keep people in the dark that there is title wave coming to not derail Christmas. Any of the other news web site post daily covid case count in their country but the US stop posting this now it seems leading up to Christmas.

I was talking in another forum some argued they did not know what are failsafe that could trigger war and how to stop them ? 1: Economy of China if it ever plummets and the stock market goes into crisis because of China’s bad decision their leaders make of course they won’t right now. But indeed such things do happen reccesion happens and A turmoil happens in all the country. China is obligated to do martial law and replace the leaders. Food crisis follows and people can buy anything. In such conditions they will have to invade another small counrty, cut government budgets, and military will control. 2:Military Industrial Complex of China grows without sto…

Why did the Americans look down the Germans, although in US there was rasicm and discrimination of the black population? why nobody talks about the crimes the Brits did during colonial era? I am Swiss and we have paid back the money to the Jews. We have to learn in school what we did. What about the potato genocide of the Irish people. Did the Brits have said sorry?

Heterodoxy, I had a conversation with someone who manages engineers (owner operator, of a small prosperous firm), and I couldn't help but ask why they can be so incredibly ignorant, and how more than a few of them could support the political aspirations of imbeciles, con artists, and grifters. His explanation was right to the point. They were never trained, nor need critical thinking skills. They are trained in a very hard set of rules as to the way the world is, and that those rules are not to be questioned. They aren't scientists, and have no need for hypothesis, and testing. they are there to implement already known factors, and do so with high effectiveness. Ma…

It seems like society is going backwards. It seems like each passing year more and more people believe in a fantasy reality. A fantasy reality that believes in outlandish things like "vaccines are the devil" or that "space is fake". This mindset has even infected physically healthy people. There was a time when these type of people aspired to be astronauts. What has happened to society? We aren't just turning away from science but from reality as well.

There were some aspects of Cold War society that was better. People were more physically fit. People were more excited for space travel. People were optimistic for an interstellar future even under the threat of nuclear annihilation. The Middle Class was bigger. Now all people care about is hoarding wealth and materialism. What happened? I wish more of society would aspire to better themselves both physically and mentally. I wish more people and leaders would become more interested and determined to push us in the direction of a "Star Trek" future rather than spend billions on yachts and military toys. I like SpaceX's technology but I am not too comfor…

I think this raises the issue of the paralell-running cancel culture fad that is coursing through Western societies. It has become the de facto way to deal with issues, not just this one.

I'm a Brit, I know very little about the US Constitution. But I'm wondering if it needs amending. What would have happened, if Donald Trump had gone all the way on the day of the Capitol Riot, declaring a stolen election, and issuing orders to the military, and security services, to suspend normal government and institute martial law? That's how a coup is normally achieved. How close is the USA to that actually happening at some point? As the nation worships it's constitution, should there not be some amendment to cover such an event, to give clear guidance to the military and security services on how to respond to an illegal order from above? So that the…

While I certainly have an opinion on what is best for society, some of the arguing, bickering and forceful political points of view, sometimes wants me to throw up my hands, and retire [I already am retired] and become a recluse [no i aint no recluse......yet!] Why cant we all live together in peace, harmony and satisfaction? Why can't we, [those in a position too] help others less fortunate and in dire needs? I have expressed my opinion/s here now often enough for most to understand where I am coming from. I am fortunate health wise, and am reasonably well off. The current issues at this time that have me considering [just slightly though] becoming a re…

Has anyone been following the Elizabeth Holmes case? Based on what's discussed here, I don't think she is guilty. It seems, however, the technology and science behind the Edison is not being properly discussed in court. I spent yesterday looking into the Elizabeth Holmes case, and the Edison technology (video) looks very legit. Supposedly, there were issues with using blood for testing? Sure, devices give out error here and there. However, the methodology of the equipment and the comparative results in relation to the chemistry journal artlcles seems that there isn't much of an issue with the miniaturization of the technology. I'm juggling a varie…

As a gun loving but tolerant independent should I be afraid of the "Trumpers"? https://www.salon.com/2021/09/28/americas-fate-looks-bleak-will-it-be-oligarchy-or-autocracy/ Or are they an overstated threat? How worried should I be for my Muslim friends? I will die fighting before I allow anyone to hurt them!

@Peterkin I'm guessing you're understanding of "forward and backward" is, forward = good and backward = bad; my point is one leads to the other and the most productive part of the political pendulums swing is in the change of direction. George Orwell had a lot to say on the subject, as did most religion's. It doesn't matter where we learn the lesson, just that we're open to be taught.

How would you feel if a moderate who was afraid of the direction America was going and started his own political movement called the "Freedom" or "Americana" movement? He labels the governments of China and Russia as enemies of all mankind. He calls Russia a "Frozen Shithole". He criticizes the Democratic party as "cowardly" and "soft". He decries the Republican party for falling in love with Russian style authoritarianism. He advocates for the legalization of marijuana and ending the patriot act. He says too many cops have the "Russian mentality". He proclaims he will never let America become a "shithole" like Russia. He then converts mo…
