Take a look at this red/blue map of the 2020 US election. Click on any state and it gives you a breakdown of the red and blue counties of each state. Notice how the wide-open spaces are overwhelmingly red and population centers are overwhelmingly blue. If you click on a blue state you will see most of the counties are red. Population centers are blue. Why is this? Is it true that "blue" policies are generally more popular in the US than "red" policies? election map red blue - Bing The "traveling salesman jokes" are about a city-slicker, conman, salesman (Trump) who travels across the nation taking advantage of the local country bumpkins, especially farmers…

Have you ever had your opinions dismissed out of hand, on other webforums, by people who invoke the other things you've gotten wrong as justification for dismissing them out of hand? Have you ever noticed that a majority of people on these sites either made, or failed to distance themselves from, a comparable number of incorrect statements, and ignore your comparisons of these to the things you yourself got wrong? I feel reminded of this by recent political trends. The right spent the late 90s howling at the moon over Bill Clinton's affair with Monica Lewinsky, yet lets Trump get away with something similar. A majority of Republican voters let them…

For the record, I say this as someone who believes China needs to be called out more on its disproportionate role in foreign overfishing, in ozone depletion, etc... yet finds it odd that people deflect criticism of American greenhouse gas emissions by comparing them to total Chinese greenhouse gas emissions, instead of per-capita ones. Why is it that the total country's emissions matter more than the per capita emissions? Wouldn't it be more meaningful to compare the USA to, let's say, a randomly selected region of China containing a comparable number of people to the USA? For that matter, China's "one-child policy;" though implemented more for economic reason…

On other sites, back when I didn't value honesty as much, I used to have a nasty habit of throwing various things associated with leftism (cannabis culture, criticism of capitalism, etc...) under the bus to see if people respect a non-liberal anti-theist more than a liberal one. It seems not to have worked. As if to drive the point home, religious-but-otherwise-leftist colleagues of mine IRL seem to get (relatively) more respect than centrist anti-theists. Over the years my disagreements with the rest of the left have increased for real anyway, yet I regret trying to throw it under the bus more than ever before. As if on cue, it's now down to a few…

Based on data available today 11-23-2020 with 98% popular votes counted. Please check my math: 🙂 Biden 79.8 M Trump 73.8 M Total 153.6 M (million votes counted already) Total votes already counted as 98% (153.6/98 = 1.57) x 2 = 3.13 million votes yet to be counted. So Biden gets 51.95% (79.8/153.6) of the remaining 3.1 million votes to be counted (0.5195 x 3.1 = 1.61) and Trump gets 48.05% of the remaining 3.1 million votes (0.4805 x 3.1 = 1.49). So based on current proportions in the popular vote, Biden should have a final total of 79.8 + 1.61 = 81.4 and for Trump 73.8 + 1.5 = 75.3 Final vote tally estimate: Biden 81.4 m…

Having read the constitution and finding it kind of open to interpretation how the pardon power works, I'm no closer to finding a good answer for this. Can a President pardon themselves? Is one question. Can the next President revoke that pardon? Is another. Obviously we are only talking about pardons of federal charges. Can Trump even pardon himself for a federal charge that has not been formally filed yet? If so, where does it end? Why shouldn't every president end their time with giving themselves a pardon for any federal crimes they may have committed while in office? It all seems so confusing to me. If it is the presidential office gi…

How does the political compass work? So I gone to the political compass web site to see how Biden compares to Obama and it is saying Biden is bit more to the left than than Obama and bit more libertarian. https://politicalcompass.org/images/uscandidates2008.png But looking at this it is also saying Ronald Reagar is more to right than Trump but two or three points more libertarian than Trump. https://i.imgflip.com/3wuzn9.jpg But the other web site is showing Bush more the right than Trump. So how does this political compass work? It seems broken down where libertarian at the bottom and dictatorship at the top and right and …

I find this highly disquieting: This all came about because Linick wanted to probe some possibly dubious behaviour by Pompeo. I suppose my main question is: Should an administration be allowed to control its oversight mechanisms?

I've never actually seen one, but have heard of them … You know those YouTube videos where they get two old men to fight while they film it ? You kind of feel sorry and embarrassed for both of them. One is angry ( or mad ) and has no respect for anyone, while the other is a nice grandfatherly type but is beginning to mix up his words. Kudos to the moderator for trying to keep the angry disrespectful one under control.

The Trump Administration seems to be getting quite explicit lately about something that's been in the air for quite a while. The man himself and some of his officials seem to be taking the anti-scientific discourse up a notch. Very worrying news coming from the US these days. I thought I'd never see the day: https://edition.cnn.com/2020/09/14/opinions/another-day-another-trump-outrage-on-climate-and-science-oreskes/index.html?fbclid=IwAR38oXn2xJLdp5rjnPZHeAsQtNSkkptKuZy_C3Sd3LJ5c2Usyv08TAzySQ8 https://www.nytimes.com/2020/09/14/us/politics/trump-biden-climate-change-fires.html?action=click&module=Spotlight&pgtype=Homepage&fbclid=IwAR38oXn2xJLdp5rjnPZ…

Hi, How did the designer design this form!? Compare this image with the Shi'a-Hadith[1400 years ago]: ".... Who the Dajjal[Anti-Christ] is!? - Be aware that he is one-eyed that doesn't have the left-eye and his right eye is on his forehead and is shining such as the star of the morning! And along him there is a smoked mount and behind of him there is a white mount that seems be foods and he claims that he is god and all people should be his followers...." Who and why/how designed this image!?!!

What else do you call a gross act of negligence that results in the deaths of others? Even up to 200,000 deaths? "Bob, I always wanted to downplay it. I still want to downplay it." Later Trump claimed to have "up-played it in action" and "downplayed" it in speech. He put a ban from China, but it was porous and the virus got to the US anyhow, also it arrived in the US from Europe. So what always mattered was Trump's choice of action AFTER the virus was already here. That is where he "choked." His constant downplaying caused people to not wear masks nor practice any social distancing. "During the town hall, Mr. Trump also repeated his claim that the vir…

8 are dead and many others are injured. The assailant has been identified as Robert Bowers. He reported was armed with an AR-15 styled rifle (of course) and target Jewish people. Robert Bowers was an active poster on the “alt-right” version of Twitter, Gab. He is known to have post anti-Semitic hate speech via Gab. As usual (it ridiculous mass shooting have become this common) discussion regarding this shooting with include gun control but is it time to also start having discussions about hate speech?

I really have a problem with the American Supreme Court, and the Canadian equivalent. It seems that the people we entrust with making laws, your Congress, and our Parliament, don't give a damn about passing just or complete laws, then, rely on a partisan and unelected Supreme court to 'interpret' those laws in their favor. It doesn't seem to matter which party is doing it ( they both do it ), D Trump wants a Republican leaning Supreme Court so he can get rid of the ACA and get a favorable election result from the E College, neither of which he can legally do as the laws are now interpreted. The Democrats on the other hand, want to have a Democrat leaning Supreme …

I was wondering which side of the political isle is more likely to seek out opposing viewpoints, if there is a difference at all. If we asked people who identify as liberals or conservatives how often they visit cnn.com vs. foxnews.com, which group would be more likely to equally visit both?

Being "triggered" is what the kids say these days when someone gets upset, perhaps overly so, when they hear an opposing viewpoint. I was wondering if conservatives or liberals are equally likely to be triggered, or if there is a difference in likelihood. One way of quantitatively gauging which group is more likely triggered is to see look at websites like Reddit, where liberals and conservatives have separate spaces, and we can observe their up-voting and down-voting behavior, i.e. if there are a greater number of highly down-voted comments in subreddits dominated by liberals when compared to subreddits dominated by conservatives then we can conclude that liberals are mo…

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-54171571 Would have thought there was more than enough wrong in the USA for Biden to get his teeth into at the moment. If there is no trade deal, one advantage would be further delay in being stuck with US food and agricultural standards and practices, I don't wish to adopt.

Given the news of Trump's "Covid Catch": What do you suppose would be the likely impact upon the election result? If the condition were to prove fatal for him before the election how would that be handled? Can the Republicans select another candidate? Would Pence automatically step-up? How would ballot papers be handled? Same questions post-election if he won the election. Any other thoughts?
