  2. Is it true that once there was a reality show to be the king of France and that one celebrated a big orgy in Barcelona to win? What was this reality show? I suppose that is something from the french TV.

Hi. Just found a partiture of a song my grandfather used to sing when I was a little kid, but no music. I would like to beg any musician to play (perhaps piano?) and capture its mp3 for me to listen. It will bring tears to me, meaningless to any other. If within your skills, please try. Attached. Thanks

Rotting English... by laziness. The words 'laboratory'; 'identification'; 'abdominals' are gone ? 'Madam' is offensive ? An apostrophe has to be tossed in ? Female dog ? Three in the afternoon is being called 'night' ? I thought nights started at sunset ! 'Dinner' replaced by 'lunch' -- Isn't that what kids take to school ? Supper. What was that ? A ginecologist is now an alphabet soup. There is no more amplifiers or Amperes, now it is 'amps'... 'Googled' this or that... If you 'search' for something you are saying it wrong... 'Software' ? ; 'Booting up' ? Come on ! News redacted in convoluted phrasing to save ink ? Is a dozen 'you know' per minute the way to tal…

Should heading be eliminated from soccer? Some evidence that it does cause brain damage. Not sure if a reasonable helmet could be created to help this, so maybe eliminate heading for kids?

  8. My friend rents a room in a building. The room is in the middle of the building - no outside walls, no outside windows. No way to make a vent for a portable air condition unit (refrigeration type is needed). However there is watter supply and watter drain. Does anyone know if there are small air condition untis that are able to pump heat into the watter? I don't even know what term should I google.

I'm working on my Honda Element, and when i was fixing the window on the passenger side door the linkage from the indoor latch came off. Now I can't find where it attaches to the door latch internally. I can hook it to the internal door handle but I see no possible place for the linkage to hook to the internal door latch mechanism. Here is what I am working with... part 13/30, where it attaches to the door internal door latch handle 22/32 and 10/27 is obvious and easy but the internal attachment eludes me... This diagram is singularly unhelpful in figuring out where it attaches. it must transfer a side to side motion to an up and down motion but there is no o…

Do you regret getting your PhD? Has it paid off both financially and personally? Has your research benefited science? Was researching a specialized field really worth the time of the PhD? If you could, would you have gone back in time and worked a 9-5 job making extra money, and have more available free time? I know the old cliche says that if you truly love something you will pursue it, but please avoid the cliches and motivational speeches. I'm looking for dry, upfront costs and benefits. ~EE

Hi there, I'm a research student doing some work looking at people's feelings/attitudes towards maths. I have a very quick questionnaire (10 questions) that I'm looking for people to complete. NO MATHS INVOLVED and all responses are ANONYMOUS! Here is the link: https://www.survey.lboro.ac.uk/maq/ So far I have more female respondents than males, so please girls and guys, spare a few minutes to help me out. Many thanks in advance! Ps. If you have any comments/stories to share, I'd love to hear them too!

  15. Competition is a driving force for businesses. For example, AT&T was once almost the only telephone company, and telephone costs were high, especially long distance. In 1984 AT&T was broken up into several "baby bells" and the long distance firm named AT&T. Then other long distance companies began competing with AT&T, the price of long distance dropped to $0/min, and AT&T was purchased by the baby bell named Southwestern Bell, which renamed itself AT&T. Competition destroyed a portion of the telephone business Of course, cell phones became a new telephone business. Another development, the Open Hardware initiative, may also threaten busines…

In this thread I'd like to share with you concept art and/or audio for a project I've been working on. First off, I want you to take a look at 2 vehicle concept pictures I've done: Example of the hoverbikes in the story. Alternative example. Does the second picture still look like a motorcycle, or at least, a motorcycle-like vehicle? If not, what can I do to make it look more like a bike?

She is so awesome ! it proves it is always not too late to learn a foreign language. how many foreign languages you can speak ? which language do you think is relatively easier to grasp ? and which language is most similar to English ? share your thoughts.

Why do so many machines these days no longer perform the function they were designed to? Or more precisely why do they try to tell you that you don't want to do what you have just asked them to do? In particular I posted a letter c in brackets in this thread. http://www.scienceforums.net/topic/75428-i-need-help-in-physics-please/ The computer controller told me I didn't want this and substituted a copyright symbol. I even wasted time editing the text back but the central controller was adament. I cannot have ( c) only ©. I can however have (a), (b), (d) etc. Tron please help!

I just saw a documentary about the Piraha, an Amazonian culture, whose language apparently has no recursion. For example it has no conjunctions, so you cannot say Mary and Mike drank water. It has started a war among linguists, with Chomskyians and others getting pretty hostile, kind of like the war between theists and atheists...not very scientific in some cases. There is no linguistics forum, so I didn't know where to post this. There are a couple of references to the Piraha in Religion; they do not have a belief in god. The linguist who reported this language went there as a missionary whom the Piraha converted him to atheism. It was also about the Piraha cultu…

Some people dig in and refuse to change their opinion, at least in public, whenever evidence indicates they have made a mistake. Grinding can be counterproductive.

I think something I may start posting all of my papers and essays here when I'm done with them. I'm in 8th grade, so if they don't go too much below the surface, don't be surprised, here's a paper on the Black Panther party I wrote for class. The Black Panther Party, By ******** In 1966 California, a movement was started by recent jailbird, Huey P. Newton, and 5 other members created a movement based of a principal of Marxism and Black Pride, titled the Black Power Movement for Self-Defense. The six founding fathers of the movement were Elbert Howard, Huey P. Newton, Sherman Forte, Bobby Seale, Reggie Forte, and Little Bobby Hutton.…
