Hi. Hope this is not against rules; am trying to buy a few cheap electronic components at an specific store and refuse to pay abusive minimum shipping fees, as am in tight income now, and parts costs do not justify. Or, if anyone knows some sort of web site where this personal kind of contacts can be requested ? Thanks

  3. I normally watch from the sidelines, But i notice in quite a few forums, that a lot of "senior members" use a lot of different accounts, I normally enjoying watching how they argue with themselves, Or gang up when the need arises, I am not just on about this forum, As i have noticed it big time in other forums, Does anyone else notice this in forums they may visit?

  4. I'd hate to pick a fight in relation to people's personal life philosophies; but I'm going to pick a fight. I hope it won't get too bloody. So, I like the transhumanist train of thought in the 21st century. I think we'll learn so much more about ourselves and the universe by expanding upon ourselves with technologies and medicine than researching other things. So, I've been learning about quantum physics and quantum mechanics as of late: I believe I'm start to grasp the mentality required for it. However, I just see a lot of it as pointless. You might say that I'm the kind of person who would say, "Let the world burn if that means the Truth about reality and the unive…

After seeing many topics abandoned or caught in circular argument i wonder how to use them to contribute to the SFN community over the long term. For me science is more than argument. it is about collaboration too. I feel that the answer is in using the friending resources available to us on this site. However i would like to hear what other people think so that i can get a better line of sight upon the subject. What do you think about it?

If you wake up in the morning wondering where you are and hear that you were being an asshole the night before (but not quite an asshole) and was told that you were treating your friend like she was your girlfriend (but not quite like that), should you have anxiety over a night where you completely lack recollection? I didn't know if I should post this but I feel like a complete idiot after last night. I was thinking that someone may have drugged my drink. I had to do a lot of explaining today and I was thinking that people were wayyy over analyzing my behavior. I told them what I was probably thinking (I was treating the girl like family and talking shit with my …

I had a thought... in the attempt at SETI have the idea of mega structures been discussed anyplace? I know i haven't read much about it if anything. There are some possible mega structures that could be seen across interstellar distances. There is an orbit called a rosette where 5 masses can orbit around a large one if they are all the same distance from each other. last about 5 seconds with out some energy input intelligently directed at keeping them that way, or the idea of a sphere surrounding a star to collect all of it's energy. I have seen some images of proposed space structures humans could make, the recent asteroid that was found to have a ring mad…

I have a pair of miniature National Trust wellington boots at a pen holder that has become encrusted inside with old ink and other detritus from the pens. I am looking for suggestions as to how to clean this out. So far I have tried white spirit petroleum spirit caustic soda, drain cleaner hot persil solution without success Cleaning suggestions welcome. The wellingtons are made of thick pvc or polyethylene.

Just ran across this site, and others might enjoy the humor. In particular, the adventures of Fallacy Man, parts I and II, which has so much relevance for discussions at SFN http://existentialcomics.com/comic/9 http://existentialcomics.com/comic/21 I also liked the Germans playing Monopoly http://existentialcomics.com/comic/19 and Philosophers playing D&D http://existentialcomics.com/comic/23

  15. I got a large hamachi sashimi dinner, a california maki, a Philadelphia maki, and saba, tobiko, hotetegai, hokkigai, and toro nigiri. I poached on the Schneibsteress' maguro sashimi and she got a couple pieces of my hamachi and some of my california maki; she had a tekka maki and her own california maki, and a huge maguro sashimi because the chef thinks she's cute (which is why I send her to pick up the boodle). Oh, the maguro and hamachi we get here are to die for.

Hello SFN community, Today, I am inquiring to all those who might happen upon this post who are members of the Society for Mathematical Biology for a possible endorsement letter. I am currently an undergraduate student majoring in both fields and would like to become a member. Unfortunately, I attend a smaller university and have tried enlisting the endorsement from faculty that may already be a member but have found none. If anyone would be willing to endorse my entry into the Society for Mathematical Biology, I would greatly appreciate it. I already have a letter from my supervisor confirming my student status. A private message would suffice. Thank you. Mic…

  17. Upon the reading of another thread that is discussing aliens attacking our civilization, I recalled some recent threads I have posted in. http://www.scienceforums.net/topic/77946-snakes/ I have formed an idea that possibly this phenomena of aliens in all of their manifestations within our world culture are linked to this primordial development in our brains, and for lack of a better analogy a "snake radar" like subconscious reaction by this above defined evolutionary holdover. Could it be driving these experiences that people have about abductions and sighting of these green aliens, an over compensation by the brain to stress and other psychological and physiolo…

  19. Late last night on March 31st, 2014, the super-scientist, Mary Jackson, daughter of Frank Jackson and cousin of Washu Hakubi, discovered the Theory of Everything. Frank Jackson had locked Mary Jackson in a black-and-white room since her conception, whereby she could not come out of the room until she knew everything about color. Mary was given unlimited access to equipment and funds, which was supported by the Obama administration. Upon leaving, Mary Jackson left the room in the Frank Jackson residence in U.S.A., North America, Earth, Milky Way Galaxy only to become one with the universe. When Mary was asked what she learned about color and if she experienced anything…

I'm eager to discuss with you about extraterrestrial life in our Solar System and beyond. First question I asked myself is: What are requirements for life to evolve from dead atoms and molecules to organic molecules, from single cell organisms to higher life forms on some newly formed planet or moon, let say we are talking about our Solar System. Just here on Earth we have so much alien life that we can't imagine, we have bacteria that can live and reproduce on 122°C (252°F), some of them can thrive in very acidic or alkaline conditions, Picrophilus torridus can live in pH 0 and that's like living in sulfuric acid. These were all bacteria, there is a creature that ca…

  21. Started by Daedalus,

I haven't been able to spend much time with my boys, and I've been missing them a lot here lately. So, I wrote this song for them. I wanted to embellish the melody on the second change up, but the song contains 7 independent voices. This creates a huge drain on my PC's resources and Pro Tools would not play the faster parts correctly (not enough processing power to do so). However, the song did turn out beautifully. So, I'll see what I can do in the studio.

Well this year is definitely my year for writing music. "G Minor Blues" is my third composition since January and my first song to use blues scales, and I must say it's one of my finest works. It has seven independent and intertwining voices. Enjoy!!!
