Seen any good sculptures made from almonds lately? Note: no other nut-based sculptures may be discussed under threat of the ban-hammer!

"Her" is a movie that I had never even heard about until yesterday. My friends highly suggested that I watch the movie after finding out about the new job I got, so I watched the movie and it quickly dawned on me that that is exactly what I love about my expertise. I have hopes that our technology will reach that point within our lifetime, and I'm glad to say that I will be a part of the process. Anyways, given a scenario in the movie, try to put yourself in the protagonists shoes. The man is miserable, he's a social outcast, he has two friends but only one real friend. His job is to write letters for a living. To make a long story short, the man meets a woman an…

Hi! So I got those glasses from my science teacher at my school for 25 cents and I'd like to know how they're named so I can buy more online.. Since I didn't know where I could post this on the internet I typed science forum on Google because it still has a little connection with sciences I think and this was the first result. Since this seems like a serious science forum I'm posting this in the general talk section. So what's the name of those glasses? Every light sources have colored trails coming from them and every objects have multiple "ghost" version around them. Here are pictures taken with my webcam seeing through the glasses.

Hi Really not sure where this post should live so Mod feel free to move if deemed non-applicable here. I am looking for substance, relatively thin in thickness that will prevent / reduce heat conduction been emitted from 35Watt halogen bulbs. I have 8 x 35 watt halogen bulbs mounted approx 12 mm away from 6mm pine wood. The purpose of which is to illuminate the wood - cut out to display countries of the world. The halogen bulbs are controlled by dimmable switches. The problem is that even after a short period of time the boards tend to heat up quite a bit and I'd like to see if there is some material that could be screwed to wood in front of bulb that protects the wood…

Hi. It does not take that long, and stirrs cultists and speculators. Good elaborated artwork of precision, planning and patience; and fun watching on the news later. There is plenty of them in truly beautiful patterns. ----> [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_opN9ghPKQ] But do they all have an explanation ? It is a brutal effort to make this ---->[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KliBRinZHJA] What for ? Is there a secret contest society doing these ? To laugh at worshippers of mistery ?

What qualities did they possess that puts them above all others? I've always admired Leonardo Da Vinci because he seemed to be a prodigy at everything he put his hand to and advanced those fields as well which seems extremely rare. He had phenomenal imagination as well as technical execution. He married art and science without apparent internal conflict which I've never really been able to do ...to me they are at odds philosophically and I inhabit one state or the other generally. He was a great artisan with his hands as well. There are no right answers and this is not intended as an argument for one or another. I'm just interested in your opinion about who and wh…

With a few thousand black walnuts harvested in my backyard, cleaned and dried, the task ahead is just too much. Black walnuts are extraordinarily tough, and after shattered/crushed, the intrincate compartments still prove excessive work/time to extract the edible fragments. Some more hammering and mixed pieces are piling up. How to separate the goodies? Dumped in water, both shell and 'meat' pieces sink. How does the industry does it ? Do you know a clever way ?

Found this recipe on-line (the story is at the BBC ) it's just a nice recipe for a slightly different burger - the interesting bit, other than finding out if it tastes as good as it sounds, is guessing who Papa was (just noticed it is given away at bottom of photo).

Lets say someone wanted to make a fansite or sell fanmade products for a particular fanbase over internet. What would the legal ramifications be if they did not get copyright permission and how do you get said consent? How likely is it to be sued for a fan promoting and or selling fan products? Does anyone know anything about copy-written laws over the internet?

What are your thougts on a person who never got to experience high school science/biology/chemistry/mathematics on beginning a journey to get her upgrading courses through adult basic education and starting on a college bsc degree in possibly biochemistry. I know, it's an odd question. On one hand, I might put a lot of effort into trying science and discover it was not meant to be. The exiting part is though, I might try it and discover it's perfect for me, my thing, my 'niche' that I have yet to discover. If I have yet to discover it, why not science? I don't know if I'll be any good at memorization. I know I'm good with concepts. I had 3 college semesters of Phi…

It is a real measure of energy? If so what can I compare it with to understand how much power it represents? I ask because I was watching Star Trek Voyager and in passing they mentioned the warp reactor produced 4 trillion terradynes of energy per second, is it just technobabble or a real measure of energy? I tried to google it but my spelling must be off because all I got was bunch of companies with the word in their names...
