Speculations Forum Rules

The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:

  1. Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
  2. Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
  3. Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.

The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

  1. Started by pmb,

There are well-known physicists/cosmologists who are widely published in peer-reviewed journals, and who publish articles which contain postulates which are nonverifiable. It appears to me that that goes against forum policy rules. My question is this: How are we to handle such theories which contain such postulates? If we read such articles and want to discuss them here is it cosidered speculation an has to remain in this forum or if its peer reviewed can we discuss it in the physics forums. I'm refering to physicists such as Alan H. Guth and Paul Davies. See Alan H. Guth et al - http://arxiv.org/abs/0808.3778 -- Journal Reference - (not sure -please see ref)…

If matter and anti-matter were held out of existence in opposite directions by the weak force. And all the matter outside of existence on one side was held together by the strong force. And all the anti-matter outside of existence on opposite side was being held together by the strong force. Then a photon could be an oscillation of matter and anti-matter popping in and out of existence in turn against the weak force. As matter pops into existence anti-matter pops out,and visa versa .Planks constant h being the energy of one cycle and the energy of a photon being h*f. If 2 photons with a high enough energy collide, they overcome the strong force and an electron/pos…

While it seems to be what might be considered a con job, I was hoping someone might be familiar with the process he is demonstrating? Does anyone have a schematic of the system? Is it for real? His video is at the very bottom of the article. http://ilovefreeenergy.info/tag/gravity/

  5. I would like to speculate that maybe black holes are, quite in contradiction to what we believe, highly supportive of life. Maybe it isn't the organic life as we know it, but something far more evolved and complex that we can't even imagine. I guess this is in some way an extension of my speculations as a child that in fact the sun is made up of a large collective of consciousness. Some of my reasons for my thoughts include: - an abundance of available resources - complex organization - constant consumption of more resources - natural defenses against external predators - possibility of inter well communication, maybe even travel This is a very …

Yes, green energy should be used to its fullest where and when possible. But this artilcle and video are quite interesting and should make us wonder why it has taken 50 years to evaluate the pros and cons of using a nuclear process that seems much safer than uranium, to build the same power source? With advanced particle accellerators already on the drawing board, it should take only a short time to design the mechanics needed to incorporate such a new system, while possibly using parts of the old one? Will someone please explain to me why we haven't done so already? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-13040853

I've trudged along for almost 2 years now on this forum with a 5 year old mentality in science.. Reading is the one thing providing new questions to me. My latest Q: Is everything in the universe nothing more than energy waves? Having just found this particular item, I would like to share it. Perhaps you are already familiar with it and it is stale to you, but to me it is totally mysterious. I have no idea who wrote it, and only remotely understand what it means. But If you are into this type of thing please respond, or give me some different links to read or look at. These links are not the initial reference I was referring to, but they will have to do for now. http…

I was just wondering if anybody knew how to get a discussion going on a speculative theory? I have been working on one for a few years now and have been trying to break it, by looking at various experimental data, but everything I find just re-enforces the theory. I am quite happy for anybody to read it, but it is approximately 100 pages, although I have written a few short papers, if that is of help. In fact the reason I wrote the papers in the first place was to try and discuss my idea with lecturers at various universities, as well as seeing whether journals would publish them. However I’m currently having no luck. Therefore any comments and suggestions w…

  9. An alternative interpretation of the consequences of Special Relativity Does Time exist in any real sense? There is no direct evidence that time is actually part of the fabric of the universe. It is probable that human beings dreamt up the notion of time as a convenient way of 2 or more people being in the same location to share a task. For example an agreement for 2 people to meet for a hunt at sunrise on the bank of a river next to a large rock is in effect a synchronisation of the event of sunrise with 2 people and a unique geographical point on the planet. The human notion of time serves the purpose of accurately synchronising events for a species that owes m…

When a black hole sucks something up and an object crosses the event horizon, the event horizon is temporarily deformed bear that point where it crossed, until the matter reaches the center. This notion is important because it says that the shape of the black hole in a way mimics that of the shape of the internal structure. Since a black hole on it's own is at least a sphere, the singularity must be at least sphere in order to warp space time to creat a sphere. But, the warping of space is a little more complex than that, the warping of space mimics a conical structure as well, however it is a cone from every side, so the internal structure must also be infinitely cone-li…

Anyway ok sorry about that, just got an email and well.. I mean its not like I said oh give me money or I wont tell you how its done. Sure I have a donate link,,every bit helps further other project. Article here http://www.telegraph...-new-study.html The article is garbled nonsense but wind farms do cause warming because they slow down the circulating air which cools the earth. That is obvious they take energy from the cooling currents and slow them so they cool the earth less. Simples. 14. Hello, John D. Norton (1993). General covariance and the foundations of general relativity: eight decades of dispute, Rep. Prog. Phys., 56, pp. 794, pp. 835-7. "...the question of precisely what Einstein discovered remains unanswered, for we have no consensus over the exact nature of the theory's fondations. Is this the theory that extends the relativity of motion from inertial motion to accelerated motion, as Einstein contended ? Or is it just a theory that treats gravitation geometrically in the spacetime setting ? ... Of special importance for our purposes is that each frame of reference has a definite state of motion at each event of spacetime" My document pr…

The Last Days of Living in a 3-dimensional Universe I write this speech on the last day of living in a 3d world. Tomorrow, I will post the proof of a fourth spatial dimension in the form of a science rap video experiment. The video/written report will introduce a 4D calculator I named the Universal Grid. It will be an upgrade to the Cartesian 3-space graph which will allow for hyper-dimensional graphing and visualization. It's been almost 7 years since I've made the discovery, and as a layman, I have no other avenue whereas I can publish this historical discovery. So I come to the sites where scientific minds casually meet and in your hands I leave this information. …

How do we work out the amount of matter inferred by the light we see in the universe? How do we work out the amount of matter from the light? The little I remember about spectroscopy was that you could find the amount of stuff by the intensity of absorption bands-but that was small samples in equilibrium. Looking in any direction into space gasses are at different temperatures so we`ve got emission bands superimposed on absorption bands and vice-versa. So surely using spectroscopy we`re only looking at the difference between emission and absorption and there isn`t a way of determining the amounts of material spectroscopically. So is there another way of finding the amou…

Hello, first time posting here. I had an idea that was irking me and I would like as much input as possible. I'll just copy-paste something that I put on another forum (not this site). I'm sure some people will be disgusted at some of the logic, but I just want clarification. I do realize that it's all hypothesis with no real mathematical proof, I simply don't have enough knowledge in mathematics to even get close to trying. I'm all ears though, so if there is some mathematical formula to shed some light then I'll try my best to understand it. The basic question I want answered is, "Is Zero a real number?" (insert gag reflex) My train of thought first…

  18. Sorry for the vague descriptions, it's all I really have. Essentially my friend watched a documentary that he didn't remember the name of, and someone who is considered a psuedo-scientist who claims to have done reverse engineering an alien spaceship parts said that aliens traveled faster than light with an element not far from ours in the periodic table which could distort the fabric of space time in a special way as to allow the passage between points faster than light. Mathematically however, this has been confirmed to be theoretically possible, but this was before the "warp drive" or when Star Trek become popular or before it was even invented really. There's also r…

  19. @ most of the velocity is in the time dimension : i am toying with a notion that spacetime is made of: time and space, in which space is discrete and in between theese discrete 'points' of space time is building up.http://www.sciencefo...ns/#entry675842 @ standing still in time (as it does) while the rest of the "solid" universe speeds away : the dilaltion as measured by cosmological redshift is in my oppinion an effect of the buildup of time in a discretely spatial space-time. Again both notion seem similar. But when you say "stands still in time" you are actualy reffering to my "travells ony thru space-dimension of space-time". @ has been liberated from…

Just a whim. Everybody here has an opinion. What if science were totally objective in the sense of no personal opinions about what is correct science?... Just the most classical epistemology of what we know and how we know it? That would be a whole new 'science forum', and I have never seen one that was impersonal, beyond opinion, and encouraging *civil* discussion of all science, including all disagreements. Alternative titles were 'subjective vs objective' science and 'what is objective science?' I've seen no transcendence of personal opinion yet in this forum. This discussion can become more specific, but I'll leave it open for now. I'm not allowed t…

  21. A hypothetical de-synthetisation of spacetime as a synthesys of space and time. Question: is there space for time? Answer: Only if space is discrete. The hypothesis: In spacetime space is discrete, time is a quantity that is building up between points of discretely distributed space. Gravity holds things in place localy, but on the scale beyond gravitational effect, time has an effect of "stretching the spacetime" noticed by cosmological redshift. The universe is getting "bigger", but only in the sense of buildup of time. This gives us infinite time in both directions. The galaxies in this stretching space-time are drifting apart from each other faster than …

Particulate matter – such as dirt, ash, dust, sand, mud, etc -- do not stick to the fabric to any extent G. Drops of any liquid – water, oil, alcohols – do not stick to the material to any extent [even if sugar is dissolved in them]. They slide right off. H. Air-proof – air molecules does not be able to go through the fabric I. Odor-proof -- material does not absorb or let odors through it F. Non-shiny G. As elastic and tough as spider-silk F. Smooth enough to act as a solid lubricant [one should be …

I have been thinking about a great idea to make use of a largely untapped source of energy to get free energy and thus reduce global warming. Here is how it goes. A lot of household heating systems are gravity fed, ie they have a boiler at the bottom which heats water, that hot water rises and passed through pipes and through radiators cooling along the way until it is eventually fed back into the bottom of the boiler where it is re-heated to begin the journey round again. Now (drum roll) here is my brilliant idea......... What you do is place mini turbines inside the pipe and so they produce electricity from the waterflow through the pipes!!! …
