Please see the attached jpeg, the screen shot is from a current thread in Mathematics named The Golden Ratio. Read Strange's comments, I don't feel them appropriate in the minimum and extremely insulting at the maximum!

  2. Well what can i say. Make speculation. Get post closed. Defend science get post closed. What a pointless forum .

  3. I would like to know what is the difference between: 1. scientific speculations, and 2. pseudo-speculations as it relates to this topic -- "Speculations", and the "Trash Can" topic. Thank you.

  4. This extract is from a recent thread; it refers to an issue that is by no means unique to that thread. I don't know how incorrect orientation could arise and was obviously not the poster's intention. Whether it was due to the origin of the pic being a mobile phone or tablet or something here at the forum. When the issue is resolved perhaps it could be flagged up in some way to help others in future?

This is an excellent move and will help to reduce Spam & abuse of one another. No one has any Right to abuse or use harsh words against anyone bcoz no one comes to this site and participates to go back with hurtful feelings. Whatever be the Grade, qualification or Pretense of the Participant be. To be fair this should equally be applicable to all and therefore Mods, Staff etc should also not be allowed to abuse or spam against anyone just bcoz they seem to be in power. Retort to abuse or a tit for tat reaction to abuse may be treated less severely. Motivated Rep markings + or - must also fall under the category of Spam / Abuse. Perhaps the Moderators c…

Typing a post, to denote carbon, wrote exactly © and showed the copyright symbol instead. Editing to correct such, it shows fine in the editing screen but when saved, shows the copyrighted symbol (circled c) on the post.

Got a fake Windows Defender virus-warning splashed across my screen in the gay marriage thread (if it's relevant) a few minutes ago. I held the power button down to get rid of it but task manager would probably have sorted it.

  9. My post http://www.scienceforums.net/topic/102777-madmac-surprise-hijack-from-two-bolts-strike-train/#entry969577 had nothing to do with any hijack or 'speculations'. It's totally unacceptable to move my post to speculations section.

In regards to this thread: http://www.scienceforums.net/topic/102612-suggestion-about-the-speculations-forum/ I was nothing but civil throughout the discussion. I attempted to help improve the forum and I rationalized all my suggestions. Never at any point did I demand that these changes be applied, as Phi for All said. Never did I converse with a negative tone or attacked swansont in any way. So why did my thread get locked for something another member said? I did not say these words, so why was the modnote addressing anyone else but the person who did? I think there is more to discuss. I think I brought up a valid point in my last post before closure, …

  12. Most threads in the speculations forum lead nowhere and are missing any kind of evidence or basis in math. I can understand the frustration of the mods who have to go though this and interrogate the posters to no avail (most of the time). They usually tell them to check the forum description and read the rules. So I did and it is a bit vague. The sentences underlined in red contradict the sentences underlined in green: How can one make things up for fun and have them be accompanied by evidence? Also, pseudoscience means false science; science not based on actual facts. How can pseudoscience then be based on evidence? Another thing. Taken from dictionary.com, the …

Not sure where to post this. This comment by Koti "Trump's youngest kid during todays inauguration looks like he's mad to be there instead of sitting at home torturing small animals." is showing up on my home page under recent status updates. The kid is only 12. If Koti has proof of this, he should report it to the authorities. I am very uncomfortable reading this type of comment about a child. Can it be removed? Edit: I see he has followed up today with "You might me right that hes not the animal torture type kid. He might be the "shoot everybody in class from an automatic weapon" type. " Very inappropriate.

  19. They are close minded and not open to free speech. These are the mods and some members. They don't care for free speech and believe they have all the answers. Well they don't and most of them live off of theories that are not proven to a fem-to second or any measuring device. Yes I'm angry and I have a right, I guess the mods like making people feel like they have nothing to offer. I wonder where that comes from???

Magazines New Scientist, BBC's Focus and Astronomy Now had no problem accepting my post uploaded from Word. Word is a fairly commonly used, and you have accepted my Word uploads in the past. There seems to be something wrong with your website programming unless you are deliberately blanking me. Are you?

  22. For some reason I can't upload a picture for my profile. Starting from the Profile Window, after selecting change in the profile photo frame I get a photo editor window. I select the upload button and see a tiny thumbnail pic (though it looks upside down). However no photo shows up in the photo frame or crop frame. There doesnt appear to be any way to select the photo either like you would do when posting a photo. selecting done and save changes doesn't do anything. Using Safari on iPad Here is the photo. follow up question: How do I rotate a posted photo. Edit to add: I found the problem. The photo was too large. I didn't see the warn…

There is no place in science for racism and discrimination? Racism defined as using the race concept, like others isms, a concept used with exactly the same definition as any phylogenetic category? I'd say there certainly is a place for racism in science. Perhaps due to the intentionally vague nature of the word you are trying to imply "racism" necessitates gas chambers and slavery, and then associating this with discussing human psychological differences, a cheap and dishonest but entirely common tactic. Sadly modern politics has devolved to the point where mindless sheep bleat "racist, racist" ad infinitum. It's sad that such mindless idiocy affects science too. Amazing…

"A thread on the legacy of Obama might be welcomed - but not if, from the get go, the thread is designed to provoke and insult." I don't think that the fact that some people are a little upset or disappointed by the results of a democratically decided President Elect is a valid reason to shut down a thread. Why would it be different if the same thread was opened a year from now ( and not provocative ), other than the fact that some are a little sensitive and raw about the election outcome, and so, its considered 'provocative' currently ? Shouldn't we be able to discuss 'sensitive' issues on this forum, or do we need to account for when someone is in a 'bad mood' ? …
