Some kind of refference system, what with this being a science forum. typing [ sup][ url=ww.blah.com]1[/sup][/url] all the time is annoying, on the admittedly rare occasions when i do. I was thinking something simple like [ ref]ww.blah.com[/ref], being automatically superscripted, linked to the url, and replaced with 1, 2, whatever.

I think it would be useful, helpful, and meaningful to have separate counts for positive and negative reactions on a post, rather than their sum. Also, to see lists of users who gave these positive and negative marks.

what happened to it? It was the ultimate resolution to threads such as the current 'Are there any relevant secular reasons to oppose gay marriage?'. Bring it back!

I mentioned this in another thread but, I thought I would bring it here since it is more appropriate. I was thinking we should have a page on the front of the website that displays the 10 best quotes on SFN. There are many options in doing this for example, 10 best quotes of the month, year, or just 10 best of all time. Doing it by month or year, we would need some form of voting and submitting of new quotes during the month/year. 10 best of all time would be the easiest route but I think recycling quotes and having new ones up often would make it more interesting. The quotes of course would have to be original and posted by members of this forum.let m…

I was wondering what people's suggestions might be for things we could do for our 100,000th post celebrations? Please don't reply with things like "parteh!!!!111" etc, because they're annoying. I was thinking something along the lines of an alternate colour scheme/style or some major site improvement, etc.

  8. Started by Genecks,

I looked at one of my posts and thought, "Man.. I have some writing issues in this." I was slightly tired the other day; therefore, my posts weren't on top of things. I should have made the sentence double negative; it would have been more accurate. However, I can't edit, because the ability to edit has been locked away after a certain period of time. Would it be possible for an administrator to bring the editing time up to 24 hours? If the editing time feature can not be brought up a few hours, then how much time do I have to edit?

I just posted something in computer help and 5 posts were created at once. It was crazy. I'll leave the errors there. Maybe there is some problem.

I, and countless other posters in the Mathematics forums would greatly appreciate it if there were a "Wrap [math] tags around selected text" button in the Message Editor Interface window, similar to those for the "Bubble" and "bold" tags, for it would allow equations to be typed much more easily. Thanks, Dapthar

  11. Hello all, It has been over a month since I've joined Science Forums, but never have I realized how awesome this Forum is. Up in New England, because it has been snowing, I have been stuck in my house. Because of that, I have gotten back into my hobbies, remote controlled cars, programming, and a new hobby, called Arduino(that I would have never even known about if it weren't for this forum) So, to tune up my RC's, I head over to my RC universe forum, that I hadn't been on for over a year. I had never noticed it, but it had over 500 Forums!!! Way to big, I had to use the center mouse wheel to scroll to the way bottom. And with that amount of forums, you w…

I am suggesting a debate team. It will be modelled after the News Team, only it will be used for the debate forums. What the debate team will do is come up with debates and get other members to debate the subject. After the users agree, the members of the debate team will make the opening posts for the debates, and moderate the debate forums. Any comments?

I must say I was disappointed with both the premature closure of this thread on power generation and the immediately adverse and even hostile reception a new member received. https://www.scienceforums.net/topic/118572-i-offer-the-innovation-green-technology-of-generation-of-the-electric-power-by-means-of-a-new-renewable-energy-resource/?tab=comments#comment-1099130 I say premature closure because I have just looked at the thread for the first time and it is already closed. So I have no opportunity to offer some encouragement and perhaps a way forward to the new member. Any schoolboy with would be able to build a conventional model generator, per…

  14. I just scrolled down on the 'Browse' tab to the online list on the right hand side. I moved the mouse and suddenly the page expanded and changed to a much more useful list that I have never seen before. Well it would be useful if I could do it again. So what did I do right please?

One of the hazards of anonymous voting is people who can't or won't support their positions are still able to express their judgement with a negative vote. Maybe the system could be augmented to invert the votes of drive by naysayers, who have given no reason for their opinions. This could motivate some to try and explain themselves.

I just posted a topic in Earth Science. But the software here replaced the title with one from many weeks ago. It left the body of the text unchanged.

In this thread the damn stupid editor, which was most definitely not WISIWYG, changed my typing in an equation so I can't type it in correctly and false information is presented in the posts. I tried it three times, it was correct in the typing box, but changed as soon as I posted. The edit typing box does not allow access to the super/subscript icons either. So I can't change it back.

Having read with interest the numbers of threads, in the past few weeks, attempting to discuss religion through a circuitous route in a Science Forum, I think it would be extremely good sense to start a new forum for this debate. The Science Forum has grown substantially quite recently, with new members from all continents, many of them believers. Any new thread which hints at religion or Creationism can be easily diverted to such a Forum and avoid the type of emotionally draining debate which has dominated certain 'taboo' topics. Does this make sense?

Hello Swansont; This question has been bothering me for a while now, and I would have rather addressed it in a PM, but you stated that it should be addressed here--so here I am. While posting in the Speculations forum, I gave what I thought to be some very good advice for philosophers, who post in a Science forum, as follows: You responded with the following: The problem is that I don't think that my tactics earned me warnings--my temper did. This was when I did not have any tactics to solve the problem, so I fell back on simple manners. Which just encouraged the problem, so I hit the report button. The moderator's "help" is what actually blew my…

Alas, then. You shouldn't be speculating without knowledge of the basics. No model, no thread. Can you please stop locking my threads swansont? I haven't provided them to answer your questions or demands. Have I some obligation to you to provide you with a finished product? I can't see how. Try allowing the person who has genuinely given my questions time and feedback enough respect that you allow room for him to answer my questions. You obviously can't interpret language that eludes you as anything but an attempt to impress you so I genuinely believe you are an obstruction to my progress. Your presumption that I don't have basic knowledge is prepostorous. I ha…
