In a recent topic about creating a computer simulation of the universe, which is obvious nonsense with our current technology. It got me thinking, assuming we manage to build a working quantum computer, would it be theoretically possible?

I am currently running windows 7 on my pc. However a lot of employers are looking for knowledge of the Linux command line. Considering buying a second pc is out of the question I was told it might be possible to partition my hard drive and install Linux on the partition. But I am scared of doing it because if it didn't work properly I would lose my copy of windows 7 and any files I have. Does anybody know how to do this?

Okay i've been having this problem for about 6 months. Whenever I try to open a folder or open control panel or something, the computer refreshes and it doesn't open it. I tried re-installing Windows XP but I was dumb enough to install it partitioned inside my computer Now today I tried getting my comcast cable internet connection working, but i couldn't install the software or anything, and the technician tried to open control panel but i told him it doesn't work, and he said oh well it's not my problem now Is there any way to getting explorer running back to normal?

Hello! I wanted to create a website to publically host all of my original essays and writings which until now have scattered all over USENET and forums all over the internet. However, I dont know what I'm doing, or even how to get started (and while this is just an experiment for me where I'm not sure how serious I plan to get, I'm not willing to pay anyone to build a website for me). I learned a little about computers by necessity, but after typing and some experience with MSExcel visual basic, I'm computer illiterate. Could you nerds help me out? And please, if you do, go very slow

It occurs to me that the principles behind the selection of the lottery numbers are quite simple. We have a near spherical box containing about thirty ping pong balls which are rolled around and then one at a time is selected. The physics is very simple. 1. If two balls of equal mass collide then they move off at ninety degrees to each other. 2. When a ball strikes a solid surface the angle of reflection is the same as the angle of incidence. 3. Gravity operates. Surely with those three very simple, irrefutable laws of physics it should be easy to predict next week lottery numbers.

After I discovered ChatGPT, I asked it a lot of questions, maybe 100, and it was interesting to see the answers, often in great detail, and most of it seems true. It's not perfect but can answer any simple question that has a generally accepted answer. Recently, ChatGPT stopped answering my questions. I know it cost to have unlimited access. I had a limit to how many questions I could ask in one day. But now days have gone by and ChatGPT continues to ignore me. Anyone know about ChatGPT?

I came across an amusing example of an AI system being driven into a state of complete hallucination by a relatively simple OCR + machine translation challenge in Japanese when I was writing up some notes about a modern Japanese board game called Nukumi Onsen Kaotakuki - ぬくみ温泉開拓記 , and wanted to check the translation of the text on a particular card used in the game. https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/374055/nukumiwen-quan-kai-tuo-ji-nukumi-onsen-kaitakuki I took the screenshot (below) from a Japanese YT video about the game, and fed it into a Google Images search box, then used the inbuilt OCR facility to capture the text and pipe it into Google Translate, and here is…

I don't know if anyone knows this, but I have a little bit of knowlege in python and html. I was wondering if I could find a way to access a gallery of pictures with just one word describing them and with links. I need something like tihe "requests" python API but it puts the name into its database. I will than use numpy to store the pictures through links and convert them with this tool. Okay, now to the part Where You get to know what I am actually doing. I am creating a reverse stable diffusion software that turns images (whether they are ai generated or not) into prompts. Now, I am going through that proccess, and than I will use stable diffusion to merge the picture …

Computer programs called simulators are used in development of new computer to check if the computer logic ( circuits / gates etc. ) perform as desired. The computer can simulate a non existent new design to determine if it is correctly designed. It also can therefore be made to simulate itself. Can the computer then be said to "self aware", an element of consciousness?

Seriously, what's the best programming language to start with? I want to learn how to program, but I've got no experience. I can barely do the bastardized xml the forums use for text formatting.

So, I want to implement some encryption into my webpage in relation to some data pertaining to IP Addresses. I want to use XOR encryption since it seems to be more efficient for smaller strings. However, after researching for a bit, there are apparently ways to crack XOR encryption through pattern recognition. So, is it an encryption method I should use for smaller data?

Hi Everyone, I don't know if any of you have any firewall, but a friend of mine said that apart from protecting my pc from outsiders (though I am not quite sure just who would want to mess around with my pc for fun) zone alarm pro will also stop ads and stop viruses and worms. So, I downloaded the software and installed it on my machine. Everything was working just fine, but one fine day, I boot up my machine and norton says to me that it can't scan my e-mail messages because the network isn't configured properly. I tried to solve the problem, but couldn't and neither could my friend (he is sitting here showing his teeth). So, I tried uninstalling zone alarm and …

Just out of sheer curiosity, I was wondering what kindof setup people had in their homes (just a single computer, small network, etc). My main computer is a P4 3ghz, which I dual boot with Windoze 2000 (for games) and linux (for everything else) running kernel 2.6.5 under a gentoo distribution. I've also got an iMac, 400MHz PII (which I use for the server, so naturally it's linux), PIII 700MHz (linux) and an old Quadra 840av (another mac). They're all networked via my small netgear DG814 adsl modem/switch/router apart from the Quadra, and we're connected up to 1Mbps ADSL. (I've also got an old mac PowerBook 5300ce, and there's a machine running Avid Xpress Pro for my…

My computer had been on for about 7 hours... I opened up my computer, ie. opened up the case and left it running like that, after about 10 minutes: the heatsink on the processor had cooled from hot to room temperature the PSU (power supply unit) casing had cooled from hot to room temp the PSU fan was blowing out warm instead of hot air the heatsink on the north bridge/south bridge (dunno which one, whichever has a heatsink!) took about 1 hour to go from hot to a bit less hot, same with the graphics card heatsink and the RAM. Conclusion: Heatsinks are good, but you really need a fan to get the heat off a heatsink A fan makes a big difference as does a hea…

Yes, I know... burn the heretic... but I have valid reasons. I've downloaded Opera 8.51 (the one with no ads in it!) and it looks rather nice. The UI, while it took me a bit of tweaking to get it to look right, is rather nice, and it's fast. Very fast, especially when you take into account these benchmark tests. Also, it uses around half of the memory that Firefox does, which is a good improvement when I have a few programs running. The only thing I'm missing so far is adblocking capabilities. I know there's filter.ini, but that doesn't collapse the ads so there isn't a big white space. But I figure I'll do blike a favor and take a look at the google ads for a whi…

I own several web sites, but I have to create and update all the pages manually. For example, if someone signs up for a service using a form, their information will be sent to my e-mail address. I will then have to manually create their login page and enter their information. I know that many web sites are automated. For example, someone is automatically a member of SFN when they sign up. An administrator doesn't have to worry about manually entering the information of each user. I would like my web sites to be the same way. I would like to create a database where new data can be added from forms, and also new web pages be created for members. They should also …
