Hi, I'd like some explanations of what the primary, secondary, and tertiary structures of proteins, protein purification, and basic protein spectroscopy are. I've taken only 2 quarters of inorganic chemistry. Most of my work has been in stoichiometry. Anybody think they can give me an explanation of these things?

hello all, i am a new member .i am a huge fan of leonardo da vinci.but i specialize in the study of chemistry and especially water: our life force.i am also a football fan.(aresenal). ok.there was my. intro here is what i mean when i say that there is so much to understand in H20. i recently read a book on water & how it absorbs information and shows a difference in the crystals. EXP: NO 1 there were photographs of the crystals when certain music was played like beethoven, mozart, elvis etc and it was amazing when they played beethoven the crystal was like a gold star when they played mozart it was like a silver star and this is the coole…

I've searched and searched, but I have yet to find information on the location of greenhouse gases (what layer of the atmosphere). I would also like to know if they are located at the bottom or top of that layer. (example= the ozone is mainly in the top of the stratosphere). The only information that I could find is regarding the composition of the "greenhouse gases" but not the actual location. Thanks.

What do you guys think about starting a mentoring group on SFN, which would help children and adults with there current learning subject(s), i.e. G.C.S.E. A-level ect… We could have user(s), defined to a particular subject, which they have studied or excel in, i.e. Chemistry, Mathematics ect… And also amalgamate that with a revision programme? Any views?

Normally, I have to wear glasses. However, when I don't put them on, I can still see clearly by doing this: I take both thumbs and forefingers and put them together so there is a tiny hole between them. I look through that. How can that help me see?

I have been interested in science for many years now. While in college, I majored in a field other than science. While I am pursuing a career in my chosen field a study, I am also interested in pursuing science as a hobby. I am interested in doing research to further some or even all fields of science. This brings me to my question. In what ways can an amateur scientist contribute to the major fields of science?

  10. There is something wrong with which I am going to say now, but I can't put my finger on it. Something must be wrong! The Earth spins anticlickwise when looking from the North. Let's say a plane takes off from Britain and heads towards India or something. It is now travelling with the movement of the Earth, does that mean it is moving faster than the Earth's rotation? Now, let's take the opposite. The plane is now heading towards the USA, it is going against the Earth's rotation. When it lands, shouldn't the plane, and its passengers be thrown backwards, because on the ground, it will be experiencing the movement of the Earth? Something is all wrong here! Can …

Contemporary physics from its beginning in the 17th century has been progressing in two parallel directions:empirical and mathematical. It brings one of unresolved problems of epistemology for these two branches are not well combined in the scientific theories. Mathematics is an instrument for describing the hypothetical propositions and making mathematical inferences from those hypotheses. But mathematics has no means for judging the truth of physical hypotheses. Empirical methods can provide us with the facts relating to the phenomenon. But, the facts can be selected, described and interpreted differently. Empirical methods have no means of selecting the concepts of a t…

One when i was young, was very bad. All over. Nasty nasty nasty. But we enjoyed crushing them. Again was two or three years ago, me and my friends organized a battle unit (system consisting of whacking a tree, running, swatting as many as possible of the bugs that fly off (with tennis rackets), checking each other for bugs while they resettle, then repeating) , since there were so many it was more fore summer amusement than a serious undertaking. We are looking forward to this y…

For those in the UK, did you watch Panorama last night? I thought it was a very interesting insight into what would happen in a real terrorist attack in London. However, I did spot this on BBC News' website saying that it received complaints saying the program was 'too realisic'. Now call me stupid but isn't this the entire point of the programme? (It didn't contain any graphic scenes btw)

I have this really cool big stick. It is spirally and staff like and neat. Me and my stick and my friends have been on many adventures, but the stick is growing old and gray, i fear it is weakening-- how can i strengthen it to preserve it? Do you know of any methods of artificial petrification? I also would like to replicate it and make others in it's likeness (of coarse not as sacred as the original, but respectful nonetheless in emulation), so how should i mold it? Thank you for all the help you will give me--- or you shall be smitten by the wrath of the staff.

  22. I want to see what you think about reckoning the reason why people 'illogically' oppose modern scientific advancement (besides tradition and what their parents brought them up to believe). So lets ignore for here the matter of ignorance, because there are many non-ignorant people who support creationism. (though those who do so out of ignorace, admitedly outnumber them) Here is the popular view: The big bang came, the universe worked itself out and on some planets extremely complex fine chemical reactions creat life and evolution. Why people do not want to believe this: first, it appears to mean there is no God involved in our creation, there is no after life (well no…
