  1. Well, over time the terran organisms naturally grow rythmic and in their interrelations, "coordinated" if you will. But to extrapolate from this into the hypothesis that the Earth is "alive" is just silly IMHO. I don't see any point in this hypothesis. I could just as well claim that my car is "alive" because its pieces interact with each other and produce fascinating effects.
  2. 42 elephants, let's see... that is about 160 tons. Then there must be a 10-cm-thick layer of hard hydrogen at the bottom of the Atlantic I am stupid, but do you need energy in the same way to create gas?
  3. I'm not perfectly sure if this is the right forum, but I put it here because there is no "general physics" forum. Oh well... The state of a mass can be altered by changing either heat or pressure. Heat any solid and it becomes liquid, then gas, then plasma. Increased pressure, on the other hand, makes a mass "harder" (for instance liquid oxygen in tanks) 1) In space there is no pressure. But not all matter in space is plasma. Or is it? Why/why not? 2) What kind of pressure would it take to create a pure hydrogen cube of 1 ccm at 0 degrees C. Put the answer in elephants please I am very very uneducated, enlighten me!
  4. Contemporary human evolution is 99% social instead of biological evolution. In order for biological evolution to kick in, you have to fuck (or be prevented from fucking). I'm afraid people who are bad traffic dodgers get laid just as often as the good ones. Darwinism simply isn't applicable to human civilization.
  5. "may I ask what you base that statement on?" http://www.marxist.com/science/bigbang.html Very long, but mildly put interesting stuff!
  6. I'm quite confused. Is the chicken egg a single cell or not? How can the chicken foetus grow out of an egg cell, while living inside an egg cell? Doesn't every foetus start from a single multiplying egg cell? Or is this only with mammals? Does anyone have a link to a site with the growth of a chicken egg. Thank you.
  7. Lynds is groping in a very positive, and, in fact, revolutionary direction. There is no such thing as an 'instant', it is a pure mathematical abstraction. He is approaching the dialectical worldview, worked out by Hegel and perfected by Marx.
  8. The Big Bang theory is not the antithesis of religion. In fact it is the most successful experiment to date at infusing science with mystical, semi-religious ideas. The theory of the Big Bang, in its original form, leaves the door wide open to all sorts of mystical notions. The universe has always existed and will always exist. It has no "beginning" and will have no "end".
  9. Hello, I am a new poster here. My chemistry teacher made a strange announcement last lesson. He said that the egg cell is the largest cell. I can agree. But he also said that a single egg is made up of a single cell! One egg of a hen = One egg cell! Is this true? I'm no biology expert, but I'm quite sure egg cells multiply and create eggs. Anyway, how can you fit a chicken inside one cell? Please confirm my suspicion so I can nail him
