Checking out at the supermarket recently the young cashier suggested I should bring my own bags because plastic bags were not good for the environment. I apologised and explained, “We didn’t have these things back in my earlier days.” The cashier responded “That’s our problem today. Your generation did not care enough to save our environment for future generations.” Back then we returned milk pop and beer bottles to be washed, sterilised and refilled. We walked to the local shops and didn’t climb into a car every time we had to go two minutes up the road. Back then we washed babies’ nappies because we didn’t have the throwaway kind. We dried them on a clothes lin…

  2. The idea would be that because each planet(assuming that the aliens that are intelligent think this way) should have a common government, there would need to be a way to merge or develop a new world government in order to join this hypothetical galactic/universal government. Here lies the problem. If we try to found a new government, there could be two ways we would go: war or peace. War because if there is the development of a common government, there would be conflict with how to develop it, along with other conflicts such as racism and such. Will this happen, if intelligent life does find us and add us to this hypothetical galactic government? Or would we simpl…

One thing I've noticed of this site is a lack of FAQ pinned articles. I oft wonder why? On one side of the coin answering questions repeatibly generates threads for discussion. On the other side is site FAQs should be based on cooperative efforts. I would like to measure the sites interest in developing numerous FAQ articles, I can certainly assist in Cosmology and particle physics, possibly in relativity. Lol although my biggest weakness is keeping them short and brief. Would the site support such effort? (These two articles were originally intended as FAQ style, but got rather lengthy, though informative) http://cosmology101.wikidot.com/redshift…

Hmmmm.....Why doesn't any one here post poems?......I for one, like poems......There express things I'd never say........Kinda like forum posting....by more finesse....(Don't mock my spelling skill please.........).............Here......I'll start us out...... I Weep I weep at thoughts Of mornings dawn Of what was there But now is gone I weep at thoughts Of the days end For which words I did not send I weep at thoughts Of years past Of the things I did too fast I weep at thoughts Of the morrow For all it brings Is pain and sorrow But weep not I For those deceased For their spirits Have been released I weep...

Now this question needs an answer! Now imagine yourself as a rock, and there are three options that might or might not happen. 1. You either get picked up by someone and get thrown into the river. 2. You either get picked up and that someone keeps it. 3. You either get completely ignored and is left alone till another someone shows up. That someone is an alien or in this case not human... This is possible that there might be 'advanced' alien life somewhere in this universe that is very big. The word universe is latin for: Uni - Infinite, Verse - World Let's wait it out!

  7. Hi all. Tell what you learned from grannys. They can be very useful. And sharing is good... To start: If you get burned, fire or hot surface, steam or whatever, apply as soon as possible egg whites to the skin area. If dries, keep applying more for a while, pain will diminish. Will not blister nor leave scars and will heal sooner I have confirmed it in minor burns and a major steam burn from a hot automobile radiator venting. Perhaps someone can explain the effect of pure protein. I do not.

I know this girl for almost a year now going out partying with her most weeks. Now I am worried that she is interested in me which would be great but she is 2 1/2 years younger and I feel that the age gap is a bit much but I don't want to lose her friendship either.

The trailer for Superman v Batman ( dawn of justice ) was leaked yesterday. Always liked the DC Universe and its characters, much more so than Marvel, as I was growing up. After decades of Hollywood messing up these characters, we finally get some movies that capture them truthfully. I'm hoping for the best, but expecting the worst. What do you guys think ?

  15. Without OBVIOUS evidence ? We are constantly looking for evidence of other life existing in nearby or further away places. What happens if there indeed is further life forms , superior to the human race , far more developed , with skills both technically and intellectually far superior to us , who are " as we speak " , observing our human civilization , together with its current handling of the finite resources on our planet. Should they make their presence known, keep secret , Or what . That is of course IF THEY EXIST ? How could we find out , IF in fact they exist, and if so , have they anything to say? Forget 'Bug eyed monsters ' I a…

  16. What would you make a 24 hour perfect meal with, (simple common ingredients, nothing fancy) for the average 70Kg? person on average 21st century activity, to hopefully not pack any belly fat, not feel hungry, not lacking anything necessary nor recommended ? -Ignore if eating the same daily is boring, this is not about pleasant flavor, is about pure nutrition- Such same meal to be consumed in several portions along 24 hours. Guessy example: Two litres of chicken soup, containing 100 grams of boneless chicken, 50 grams of cheese, 100 grams of vegetables like carrots, tomatoes, peas, corn, potatoes, yams, greens, rice... Would such guess work ? Now, do your pr…

Hi. The synonyms of theory shown here ----> http://www.thesaurus.com/browse/theory smell like theories are somewhat distant from facts. With so many followers of the theory of relativity being a sure factual proven thing; why is it still called 'theory' ? ----> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theory_of_relativity

I've gotten hooked on watching foreign news stations lately and have noticed seemily disproportionate coverage. Is there a reason for it? Economic or sentimental? Not the only pair of countries I've noticed either, just the one that first jumped out at me.

  22. I read a case concerning a girl, in the late 19th Century in Budapest, who was employed as a servant for a man and his group. One evening she was invited to a feast and was put to sleep with a drink. She awoke so weak she could barely walk, and she noticed strange pains in her limbs. On her right upper arm, her left thigh and above her navel were small, blood-red spots, and in the middle of these round spots, was a small opening. She assumed the men sucked out a large amount of her blood and she left the service because of this. It sounds like she lost a huge amount of blood but the way it was described, these were only little wounds. It doesn't sound like any blood w…

Attached is a photograph of some My gardening this season and our old faithful who never fails to start year after year!
