  1. Hi, Is there much point in staying in touch with people you do not see regularly or have a genuine current relationship with but may have been friends long, long ago? With the emergence of social media such as facebook, it is now possible to stay "friends" with people you do not currently see regularly or have a relationship with but may have had a strong relationship in the past. In regards to these sorts of relationships, is it better to break your ties from these people instead of "being tied to the past"? Furthermore, does living in the past, inhibit in our ability to live for today and to fully appreciate all the possibilities which life has to offer? …

In the spirit of "Discuss life, school, work, anything", I've opened this discussion here because, as I've experienced, few opinions on this subject are actually based on science or serious study. As far as the science, precious few believe that such evidence even exist. After 30 years of study, even I question some of the science on the meaningful nature of dream content. I've changed my opinion and perspective on the relevance of dreams many times myself over the years. I could and have answered this question for myself but I'm interested in your opinion, sincerely. Perhaps you believe that dreams and dreaming are not a subject for scientific study or discussion an…

  3. If here is some person who knows automotive busines deeply, you could tell me what is an operations that allow to make automotive technicians most of money? Could you do a rough percentage breakdown? It may include such subsections as: 1) Oil and filter replacement. 2) Tire rotation and rubber change. 3) Suspension. 4) Electronics. 5) Engine. 6) Electrics. etc... Which specializations are in the highest demand now, at least in U.S. or Canada? Is it profitable to have a garage?

  5. Started by Der_Neugierige,

I didn't know that we have a very unique tax system here in Switzerland. You can lower your taxes if 1. You have children 2. You use childcare or a nanny 3. You are married and both parents work 4. You donate to a charity 5. You donate to a politcial party 6. You are a disabled person 7. You have to pay alimony 8. you have interest on savings deposits(that is actually almost nothing in these times) And some more tax deductions... My father told me we are the only one in Europe who has such a liberal tax system, what about USA. In Germany, Italy or France the taxes are automatically paid with the income, they have not the possibility for tax d…

  6. A Story . Mike found himself on one of his walks along the coast , like any other day . This time he had chosen to go that extra distance to be away ' as far as possible from other people . He rested for a while , looking out to sea . That morning he had one of those ' Eureka ' moments when he felt intuitively that he had developed a perception of the Universe which made a lot of sense from the very small to the Cosmologically large . He felt so refreshed with this perception that he looked forward to running with the idea . At that particular moment , he looked out to sea , and on or in fact encompassing the horizon , was the strangest of Orange cloud spa…

  7. I just read an article about how researchers at Temple University managed to remove the HIV-1 genome from a human T-cell...the article went on about how this is a giant leap towards curing AIDS/HIV etc., etc. So, lets suppose this team did find the cure for AIDS/HIV. A couple of years ago, my professor began a small company that ran on research grants for an antibody she's making to help TREAT (not cure) cancer. That company of hers took alot of time, money, and employed about a dozen students/ researchers. If cancer was truly cured, I could see her losing alot of hard, invested time and money, as well as her dozen employees becoming jobless. Now a cure for AIDS…

Does lack of neanderthal DNA in subsaharan Africans make them smarter? Why is poverty highest in subsaharan africa? Could neanderthal DNA been the panacea which rescued us from poverty?

  11. So, there's a relatively new member on the OSF, who just happens to be a female, and also just happens to receive an insane amount of positive reputation..considering she's only been here since February, 2016...with approximately 34% of her posts receiving positive feedback. Keep in mind, she has less than 200 posts. Relative to "Resident Expert" members, who have a minimum of 2,000 posts, their positive feedback relative to their number of posts was the following: 5%, 6%, and 29%. I'm not directing my disappointment at this individual..I welcome her to the OSF any day of the week. I am however upset with the male lemmings who feel an urge to provide positive feedbac…

I find myself attracted to heavier girls more than most. But I don't understand why? Is there a way to fully explain why I'm attracted to them? I figured there were people here who knew enough to tell me why.

  18. My father is an idiot and I think he doesn't really care about me. He knows I am disabled and can't work and he just exploits this fact. The problem is that I have nowhere else to go. If my father throws me out of home I'll be homeless and living and sleeping on the streets or probably ending up in prison on the way. I don't know what to do because my future honestly looks pretty bad.

Now I'm beginning to wonder if it's safe to post even in here... Going off the basis that this is a "discuss anything" sort of area of the forums (within reason).. Although my original thread located under religion (my religion) was merely an attempt at being funny, do you all believe the warning I was issued to be justified? I can see how my statements could be seen as insults or an attack, but in fact they were not, I was just pointing out that certain people come across to me as "possible" deceptive humans based on the way they write, the wording they use etc. What do you guys think? A warning was definitely due for my behaviour in there, or was …

There could be aliens on Earth. If a species a million years older than us, discovered immortality and embraced exponential population growth, they would have traveled to every star system in the galaxy by now. They may have us completely surrounded, at every neighboring star system. They could have terraformed hundreds of billions of worlds. They could have watched as planets with life, less developed, matured, achieved sentient and eventually global consciousness. They could be manipulating us through immortal agents implanted on the planet. We could be a reality TV show for scientists of an alien race. They could be on Earth, possibly found or there may be detectable …

I've been looking around the internet for a solid list of science related shirts and other merchandise, but couldn't seem to find one. I figured a forum like this would be a good place to start one. Though I don't have much to add myself, I thought you might like one of my designs that recently became available over at Cotton Bureau. "Gravity Surf," as I've come to call it, is a little play off of the discovery of gravity waves. It's only available for about a week and a half, though, so don't wait to pick one up if you're interested! Here's a link, followed by a 10% off discount code you can use at checkout: Advertising link removed by moderator Feel free to post …

  24. A newspaper article last week about diesel cars (Sunday Times 24th Jan UK) caught my eye when the author reported his 1.6 TDI car does 37mpg with a CO2 classification of 99g/km. Whereas I calculate my 1.6 petrol job to do 46mpg (although the dashboard indicator says 48mpg!) with a CO2 classification of 139g/km. With the apparent drive to reduce CO2 emissions, would it be better for manufacturers to build cars with a lower mpg figure?

Here is a beeb video of a bike on a practice lap of the Northwest 200. Now I am a bit of a fan of this madcap form of racing anyway - but that's not the reason for the post. The video is 360 degrees - you can turn your view direction around with the mouse as you watch https://www.facebook.com/BBCBIKES/videos/vb.114010462015043/942879885794759/?type=2&theater I love it. I did actually say "FFS brake already" as I gripped my chair preparing for the brakes to send me forward in my pillion seat
